Since it was early on a Friday morning, we were seated right away with no wait. Our server was cheerful, attentive, and made us feel right at home. The menu had all the diner staples you would expect, and we decided to kick things off by sharing a cinnamon roll. It came out warm with a generous layer of cream cheese frosting. A solid start to the day. I went with the Corned Beef Hash combo, which came with two eggs, hashbrowns, and the option to substitute toast for a pancake for $1.99. Easy choice. I don't drink coffee, so Diet Pepsi was my morning fuel. Yep, it is another Pepsi establishment. My vegetarian sidekick ordered a veggie omelet without onions, but when the food arrived, hot and fresh, she discovered onions had snuck in. It was no big deal. They were very apologetic and had a corrected version out quickly. We shared my pancake while we waited, which kept everyone happy. All in all, this spot delivered exactly what we needed. Service was very attentive and polite, possibly because there were not many people for the late lunch crowd. The place was well lit with plenty of windows and looked clean. She told us, "Give me a minute," and when she asked if a high top was OK, she would not make eye contact with either my daughter or me. I also witnessed her being rude and dismissive toward several other customers. The food was mediocre at best. My daughter's eggs were plated directly on top of her strawberry whipped cream French toast, which made the dish look completely unappetizing. There was also way too much old, frozen-tasting fruit mixed in with the fresh fruit. The texture was so soft and squishy that it made all of the fruit taste bad. What made the experience worse was that she checked on the tables around us multiple times but never once checked on us or made eye contact with us. The only reason we stayed was because our server, Rae, was kind, respectful, and attentive. Rae checked on us multiple times and was the one bright spot in an otherwise terrible experience. We didn't speak up because, by that point, all I wanted to do was pay for my overpriced meal and leave. With the way the economy is right now, I'm willing to overlook a lot when I spend money going out to eat. What I'm not willing to accept is being treated unkindly or disrespectfully, or allowing my child to be treated that way. That was the most disappointing and disheartening part of this experience.
