The seating area is behind where you order coffee--looks like it's a bar in the evenings. They also have a great breakfast selection. I was hoping to try one of the breakfast sandwiches, but had to opt for a pastry because service was so slow. I ordered my go-to basic drip coffee with cream. It was perfect! Definitely the morning pick me up I needed. Since I wasn't able to get a hardier breakfast, I opted for a donut. The cake donut was definitely yummy! While there were three people working behind the counter, I had to wait about 10 minutes to even order. One staff member was making drinks, another making food, and the third was making signs. I'm sure the signs were important, but so are customers who are standing in front of you. Bottom line, I will give Uptown another shot when I'm back in the area because the coffee was that good and the sandwiches being made looked and smelled delicious.

In Iowa I usually get overheated milk, espresso that was roasted 2 steps beyond French roast, with a nice dirt and tar aftertaste. Dunn Brothers did it right! Perfect milk temperature. I mean perfect. Possibly the best I've ever had, and I've had coffee in some of the best shops in America. The espresso was spectacularly roasted, not burned in the espresso machine, and came out exactly like I hope for when I dream of coffee. And trust me, I dream about coffee. The staff was friendly, store was clean and well kept, all the customers were happy. Overall this place just oozes happiness, which we could all use some more of these days. These guys love what they do and it show, in the store, the coffee, their attitude, and all through the experience. I can't wait to come back and test more of the menu. This time driving through though I ordered some oatmeal and it was very good. Scooter's Coffee Shop has a lot of variety of food as well. (The higher end and more artisanal the place, the smaller the cup!) I also got a chorizo-fajita scone to go. It would have been better if it had been heated. That scone really needed more spice. I loved the inside art, merchandise and they had a cool reusable cups for purchase (coozies with a glass jar) that I think allowed for lots of free coffee.
