Good food
With all the choices for food in the area a couple of nights ago we struggled to make a decision. I think there have been studies, the more options the harder to pick. As places started to close we spotted Bistro 59 and almost in desperation walked in.
I believe it was a good choice for food, not so good for atmosphere. When I say atmosphere I'm not talking about ambiance but rather smoke. The place looked great and had a large TV where patrons were watching a soccer match.
For dinner, I had Pork Weiner Schnitzel. I'm afraid my American tourist palate does not know the difference between good schnitzel and not so good schnitzel. I suppose it is a little like judging Fish & Chips. Anyway, I liked mine, two large pieces and slightly greasy, the only condiments were salt if desired and wedges of lemon.
Unfortunately, my wife has no physical tolerance for smoke and even though we sat as far away from others as we could, she was feeling ill and we had to cut dinner short. Because of that I can't say we had a good dinner, but smoking policy in Vienna is just different than the US and we should not expect everything to be exactly like home. Our server was very understanding of our plight and I also understood this was not a problem with Café Bistro per se.
I would still say this is a good place to visit and eat, just leave my wife back at the hotel. read more
