I had been coming to bishops for a little over 2 years. I have always been a pleasant, well mannered customer to the staff. Because I was 9 minutes late today, my haircut appointment was cancelled with no exceptions. It doesn't help that I'm in desperate need of a haircut and drove quite a distance. Beyond disappointed by the lack of customer loyalty and I will never come again. This business has lost all of my respect and I will never recommend it to anyone. We went there to get my teenagers hair styled. We didn't have any clue what we wanted. The receptionist herself was very enthusiastic when booking an appointment. Dani, the stylist helped my son. Dani was super attentive, learnt my son's needs, suggested him how to style his hair, taught him what products to use and how to use it. Dani is very knowledgeable and has good skills with scissors. My son loved his hair style. He told me "this was the first time I was ever comfortable in a hair salon. Dani spoke my lingo." Their prices are reasonable and their services excellent. Went in a few days ago for a color consultation out of curiosity and came out two days later with a beautiful corrected color. I had my hair dyed, and it ended up much lighter on the top than the bottom. I tried fixing it once, but the color quickly washed out and the line between dark and light was always there. I was going to just live with the consequences of forgetting to tell my last colorist that the bottom of my hair had been dyed before, but went in to Bishops to see about pricing out of curiosity. I live about 10 minutes away, so the location was very convenient since I'm leaving for school out of state very soon. I walked in and Jesseka sat me down and told me exactly what she could do to fix it. She was so knowledgable and friendly and I was immediately confident she could make my hair the color I wanted for a reasonable price. I came back two days later, and she went to work fixing my uneven color. I was absolutely delighted when she finished giving me a beautiful brown color that I love with absolutely no line. Came in for an appointment that was at 11:15. I had gotten there about 15 minutes early and they told me that I'd be helped in a few minutes. Well I don't get helped until thirty minutes after 11:15. They even let a person who had an appointment at 12:15 go before me before I had finally said something. I've been getting my very short hair trimmed by Dani for months now and they always deliver exactly what I'm wanting. A pixie cut doesn't allow for much in terms of changing up the style but whatever I request (choppier bangs, longer bangs, fluffier on the sides, etc), Dani always makes it happen. I'm now just beginning to grow out for a baby pixie mullet and Dani was able to advise me on what to do (and not to do) in the coming months. All staff are very friendly and it's easy to book appointments with their online booking system. Their prices are also very reasonable and they offer student discounts, which is great especially as this storefront is right across the street from UCI. I came in for a cut and color with destiny. I came in wanting a change, but still wanting to stay within my comfort zone. She was super attentive of that, and gave great suggestions as to what she felt would look good. She (& the rest of the team) are great conversationalist, which is a huge plus! If your not a huge fan of long waits, I recommend doing their online check in service. It's like a same day reservation, and with it I only had to wait 5 mins to be seen! An absolutely infuriating experience that was so terrible, for the first time in my life I got up and left before we were finished - I just drove straight to another salon. I've never had to do that in my entire life. It was the absolute worst experience I ever had at a stylist and I have the simplest hair that any stylist has never struggled with - this place is a joke of a business. Nothing went right here - nothing, they failed on every single thing. My "stylist" Danielle had the audacity to spin me around in my chair the entire cut instead of walking around me while cutting! What an incredibly lazy and oblivious act, rule number one of a salon - the CUSTOMER ALWAYS FACES THE MIRROR! Throughout the cut I was awkwardly facing my neighbor, the back of the salon, and the people sitting in the lobby/entry - never facing the actual mirror itself. I almost wondered if I was being pranked. This is absolutely elementary knowledge that the customer sits in front of the mirror while the stylist does the moving around, but no - Danielle wouldn't budge and merely spun my chair as if she was MY client. If you're the manager, watch your video footage and be horrified that this is your place of business. This wasn't even the only thing - at one point, she took out a clipper that had to be malfunctioning because it sounded like a lawnmower in my ear and I finally had to tell her to just stop. She went and got another that was perfectly normal but it was amazing that I had to tell her as she was incapable of realizing this herself. What kind of a professional would think that would be acceptable? Well, Danielle sure did. She ignored me when I told her to just buzz me all around with a single size setting all the way to the top (my hair is pretty short) - a simple request that any stylist can easily accomplish, but no, not at this "special" place. So she spent fifteen minutes chiseling away at a snails pace to do what should have been a clean mow. Even when we first walked in, the vibes were bad - they ordered me to "check-in" without saying how, as if the customer works there and knows that they have to find some kiosk to type their info in. No one should ever have to ask what they need to do to get a cut, but this is not your usual salon. Avoid this place at all costs, I would never come back. This place failed at everything. read more

Came in here on a weekday around 2pm. There was no line and they sat me down immediately. I was in and out in about 15 minutes; I think my stylist felt like she needed to rush because there were only three stylists on the floor and people started filing in as she worked on me (maybe five total). The finished job was slightly patchy in the back - I was bummed for spending $30 on a very average and rushed haircut. My stylist didn't style my hair so I went back to work looking like a bum. The stylist cutting my hair was pretty friendly, although she didn't really ask me any questions. I'm personally a chatter in the chair and I like a barber/stylist who can carry a conversation. This place serves beer, but I was not offered a drink when I walked in. Another stylist did offer someone a drink as he walked in and while she was cutting his hair. I was technically on the clock for work and would have declined, but the principle of me not being asked still stands. Overall, you'll get an okay haircut for a ton of money... and you might leave thirsty. Definitely wouldn't take my parents here. read more

Online booking was quick and easy! Inside Bishops is super cool and clean. I was welcomed in right away and my haircut with Marisa was nice and refreshing. She took the time to ask me questions and make sure we were cutting what I wanted and needed. I have naturally curly hair that I straighten about 75% of time so I asked to keep the shape but cut the dead ends and Marisa did just that, even getting the straggler hairs. She also mentioned if I notice anything about my hair that I didn't like or wasn't even in the next few days, I could come back and she would work with me on fixing whatever it is. I didn't like my haircut once I saw it at home fully dried. I asked for curtain bangs/ face framing and long layers. My bangs were fine but nothing special. The layers were really choppy and not blended at all. I have very straight black/dark brown hair and it was very noticeable once it was all dried. I love getting my haircut at Bishops. They have a great deal for first time customers. Marisa cuts my hair and I always love the way I look after. The shop is always clean. I love the hair dye wall and subway tile. They play cool music and live music videos. Less chaotic than its competitor and also way less wait. They stock local hair products to rep OC, and even offer beers from a local brewery in HB. They also never push sales for products I'm not interested in. Super rad! read more

This was my first haircut since quarrantine, and definitely regretted the experience. I called around various Bishop shops and this was the only one available and I booked the appointment with Marisa. Our whole interaction during the haircut was great, Marisa was very friendly. I asked for a skin fade and thought she knew how to cut and create the look, but I was wrong. Usually, when I request the skin fade haircut, every barber has their own way of creating the look and the result comes out pretty similar, great fade around the hairline on the sides and back, and everything blended, so I don't micromanage the process because I trust the barbers/hairdressers know what they are doing to create the skin fade look. Once completed, my hair looked almost like a very wide mohawk but was uneven, the right side of my hair was taken in more than my left side, giving me a bad unblended undercut style. Traumatized and wanted to be courteous, I paid and left the store thinking that maybe the hairstyle would look better after I wash and style it again. Nope. After I showered and washed my hair, I took a closer look and noticed that there were scraggly hair untrimmed along the edges of my crown which made it look as if I cut my own hair and messed up. This was very upsetting, because I do cut my hair very often and I did a much better job than what I had paid Marisa to do. So I called the store, spoke with Amy, and she suggested that I should come back in for her to fix the hairstyle. She did the best that she could, trimmed the edges, gave me an actual skin fade, and suggested that I should let my undercut grow out then blend it in my next haircut. Amy definitely knew what she was doing, took her time to do the skin fade, and the hair cut did improve a little bit. During Amy's cut, Marisa came over to ask questions and observe how Amy was doing it, which I did not mind since I understood wanting to learn and correct your mistake in the future, but when Marisa said "It's nobody's fault, you know?" to make light of the situation, I was pretty stunned that she didn't take accountability for not knowing how to do a blended skin fade and cutting my hair anyways. At the end, Amy did the best she could to fix my hair, and I appreciated the effort. However, my hair looked worst after I left Bishop than it did before I came in. Amy and Marisa are really nice people, but I will definitely not be returning. -Minh read more
