My son came home from a weekend away with a "do it yourself" haircut and I thought there was nothing that could save it. I took him in and the girl that helped us was amazing. She wasn't just skilled with hair but she was able to work with my son and keep him relaxed and happy. cutting the hair of a 6 year old is no easy task. While we were there I went ahead and got my daughter's hair done as well. She got her Mohawk updated and styled including some spray in color and it made her day. This was the most positive experience we have had with my 6 and 7 years old kids. They are on the alternative side when it comes to their hair so they have had a hard time getting exactly what they want at other establishments. This was a great place even for kids. I installed Yelp's app just to review Bishops. I believe in giving credit when its due - the 1st time, my wife got a great haircut, & she was thrilled...I mean, very, very pleased. Yesterday, however, Bishops un-did any good they previously performed. My wife had the same hair-person...(stylist?...IDK the PC term, sorry) that did the great job prior. All was well until the 'manager' came over & began cutting my wife's hair much shorter than she'd asked for and explained in detail. The 'manager' glossed over my wife's protests, and tried to explain how it was 'supposed' to be done - but their job is to do EXACTLY what the CUSTOMER asks for! Not what they 'think' is acceptable! So my wife got in the car, very upset. She explained the situation to me, and I then went into Bishops, asking for whoever was in charge. I got a woman who instantly went on the defensive, acting and speaking in a snarky, smart-assed tone of voice. It was grossly unprofessional, and immediately, I knew I was dealing w/ a little bully. I asked for a refund, and was flatly denied. They didn't offer to try any kind of arbitration, partial or complete refund, nothing. Basically, she (manager) stood by her inept and derelict hair-cutting skills. The icing on this cake is that they charged her $31 for a 'long hair' cut. My wife's hair is short. Very short. Charging her for a 'long hair' cut is absurd, and comes across like Bishops is money-grubbing. Be warned - if you like Bishops, I'm happy for you - but if they mess up, do not expect any customer service! We'll never be back. They overcharged us for the last time. Dear Bishops: making mistakes is a human condition. Trying to 'cover' your mistakes w/ nasty remarks and snark, while refusing a refund for a botched haircut is pathetic. read more

My son got a haircut here that literally took 10 minutes, and we were charged $30. The sign said $15. Judging by the comments below I'm not the only one this has happened to. I asked for a fade with a nice side comb over. What we got was a basic buzz all at 1 length, and then a snip or two at the top. The buzz wasn't even. I had my first haircut at Bishops Cuts and Colors last week. Being able to walk in and have a beer while waiting makes it an ideal spot in Gresham for a haircut. The haircut was even better than my usual $60 haircut. I'll be going to Bishops from now on for my haircut and colors in the future. Customer service was fantastic. So I decided I needed a haircut today because I was to attend a funeral. I went to Bishops because it was close, and I needed a haircut quick. Big mistake. The woman who cut my hair was the manager and she did a horrible job. I asked for a one on top, and a zero on the sides with a medium fade. She agreed to cut my hair, and seemed to do a half decent job. I left my glasses in the car before entering so I couldn't tell how well she did until I paid and went back out to my car to look in the rear view mirror. I did not think she did a good job, but drove back home to look in a bigger mirror. After looking in the mirror, and my wife telling me the back of my head was completely uneven and had a bunch of diagnal lines. I decided to go back. When I went back, I had to sign in again, and wait 10-15 minutes to see the same woman. I explained that I was not pleased. She said "That both sides look fine to me". I became upset because I knew my hair did not look fine. I told her I was in the Navy for five years, and I know when my hair doesn't look "fine" or even. She said " well we don't do military cuts here". I went on to explain that she should have told me she didn't know how, nor should she have attempted if she didn't know what she was doing. She then accused me of being rude. I agree I was being stern, but I was not swearing, or calling her names or anything. All I was saying was because it is completely uneven I will just have her shave it all to the same length. I also mentioned I wanted to be reimbursed 12 for the haircut. (she charged me $24 for a normal cut, for a buzz cut they charge $12) I also mentioned that I had previously given her a tip which I will not ask to be reimbursed. She then replied "You only tipped me three dollars dude, whatever". So she cut all my hair off ( kind of hard to mess that up). I then walked over to the counter and waited. She turned around and said "we don't give refunds". My jaw almost hit the floor. I stood there, with no hair, asking to be charged for a buzz cut, and to be partially refunded $12, having already paid $27. Now this is where I said the most rude thing. I said, "So I have to pay $27 for a Sh#%^y haircut that you couldn't do right?" She then called me F-n rude, and to get out of the store and don't come back. I have been here twice. Both times meh, unimpressed. I have NEVER been to a place that charges for a flippin' wash. ALL places I have gotten my hair cut or even just trimmed wash your hair before cutting it. The first time someone offered me a beer while waiting. I just a trim and the lady did an alright job. Months later the second lady stated 'I only cut dry hair'. She also thinned my hair from the top, vs underneath. It looked like I had split ends EVERYWHERE. As much as I seek to be positive I am letting you know this in case you want a quick haircut. And Bishops asks for reviews at their cash register. So my daughter got her haircut in Gresham today at Bishops. Her hair was and is short hair just under ears and she had a simple undercut design on the back of her neck. She was charged $48 and expected to give a tip. She was charged a "long hair" price and the artwork is an extra $25 that is not posted anywhere. When I talked with the person in charge about the huge cost, she was offended that we weren't happy and when I asked why the special prices aren't listed or that they don't let customers know when something is going to cost more....Her only response was that they don't want to offend people by having to prepare them for an extra fee as if they couldn't handle it. The long hair issue....We were told afterwards that anything below the ears, including a pixie cut, is considered long hair. The cost of the artwork....She said it takes talent and extra time to shave a line onto someone's hairline. I get that. I really do. Skill is important and I value what others can do. But the pricing system is false advertising in my book. The person I spoke with wanted to be sure that I knew that they only charged $15 instead of the normal $25 for the artwork. So I am grateful for that but since we didn't know it would be a different price anyway, does it really matter? When I suggested they keep their clients better informed, her response was "Look, did your daughter get a good hair cut or not?" Really? I was wanting to communicate and problem solve. I've got to say that Bishops finally moving out to Gresham is really convenient! I love the SE location, I work by that Bishops and usually go there. However, living in Gresham I decided to try it out the new spot and I was very happy with the cut and style. Josie did and awesome job with my hair. It was thinned out and layered, just right! She even offered to flatiron it so I could see how it worked curley and straight. I was super happy with the service and finshed product- will be back for sure! read more

I took my 12 year old son here for a haircut and he did like the cut but they tried to charge me $26!! When I brought it to her attention that she only buzzed the sides, and that their website says that costs $13, she only then lowered it to$18 because she did "some blending".....which I did not ask for. She was nice but $18 for a partial buzz....for a kid? Way over priced. I then inquired about purple color on the ends my 9 year old daughters hair. She quoted me $110!!!! Wth? I went here last week and got my hair cut. Josie did my hair and she did a fantastic job! My hair was really long and I wanted a choppy razor edged bob. She did exactly what I wanted and it turned out awesome! It was so nice to go to a salon where they actually listened to what I wanted and were able to execute it perfectly. I will only let one stylist touch my hair, and that is Josie from Gresham Cuts and Colors. First of all, let me tell you that I live in Beaverton. It is one hell of a drive to get out to that Salon, but it is worth it every single time to walk away with absolutely amazing hair. Second, I have super-thick, extra-long blonde hair which I am extremely particular about both color and cut. I first met Josie when she worked at the Bishop's downtown location on Columbia. She was the only sylist in the joint who had the stones to take on my locks and after that I have never looked back. Every time I need a touch-up or a totally new style I make the trek up to Gresham Station, and every time I leave feeling beautiful. Josie is the manager at this location but she still takes clients and appointments, so please do yourself a favor and go see her the next time you want your hair to look incredible. I hope all you Yelpers out there get to see this review, as I see that 90% of the positive reviews for Bishops - Gresham Station are "Filtered", which is complete crap. Look at the filtered reviews and you will get a true and accurate depiction of this barbershop. read more

i'll be wearing a hat for the next few months. they just butchered my hair. it was my first cut in 2 years, and i wanted it short, but i brought in photos of what i wanted, and made it clear I want layers, but I DON'T WANT ANY ABOVE MY JAWLINE and i want them all over, not just in the back. they chopped it up in back above my ear, and left it long in the front. exactly how i said i DIDN'T want it. i had to run out of the shop before i broke down in tears right there. never hated a haircut so much in my life! they don't listen! read more

I went to Bishops because a friend recommended them. While I was having my hair cut, I asked the stylist (Desiree) if she was able to do a certain bleach/color job that I had been wanting to do. She said "absolutely". FIVE HOURS LATER, after arguing with the MANAGER of this store, I walked out with DYED ORANGE HAIR. It wasn't that the bleach didn't lift my color, it did that no problem. It was that they were getting ready to close and they both wanted to go home, so she bleached it out, then dyed over the blonde a color that was suppose to be medium brown and it turned my hair orange. Unfortunately, I paid while the brown dye was still setting. Desiree told me that there was nothing else she could do and that I would have to wait A FEW WEEKS and come back and have it fixed. Who wants to walk around with bright orange hair? Not this person! I went the next day to a much nicer, more professional salon (Kelz Beauty on 31st & Sandy) and had my hair fixed. The stylist was able to do the EXACT style I had asked for from Desiree, no issues. I called and emailed Bishops Corporate office multiple times and no one cared. I got brushed off. The store manager at the Portland/Gresham location ended up calling my phone and ARGUING with me for ten minutes on how I voided any chance at a refund by going somewhere else, and she even tried to BLAME me for my hair turning out the way it did. Rediculous. Terrible cut, terrible color, HORRIBLE service. AWEFUL MANAGER. She needs to find a job that doesn't require human interaction because she is not a nice person at all. I used to go to bishops all the time when I lived downtown. Went to the one in Gresham a couple times...the last time I went in the girl that cut my hair did so with the precision of a drugged marmoset with broken hands...once she got a bit into my haircut, I realized she was completely lost, so I asked her to stop. I went home and my fiance asked me "whoa, what happened"... It wasnt so much a haircut, more sporatic hair removal. So I went back to talk to a manager, who didn't offer me a refund, I didn't want to piss her off and have to pay someone else to fix it again, so I let her fix my hair, she was pleasant enough about it and did a reasonable job (not great, reasonable)..I'll never go back to bishops though, the fact that they hired someone that literally could not cut hair means I've probably just gotten lucky before. Got a haircut June 10th. I asked for skin on the sides with a high fade. She right away went all the way up my left side with the clippers. I'm not a stylist I instantly this was a big mistake. I ended up with a straight cut all the way up one side, and my right side had a fade. I got up from the the chair waiting for the manager or someone else to say hold on we can't let you walk out the door like that. Instead I got no eye contact and almost a OMG is he going to say anything about that. I was so embarrassed I paid and left to go to rudys. To fix what they could of the screw job this stylist did. To get to the point if your in Gresham and you want a modern haircut make sure you do some research if you can on the place a head of time. I went to rudys on 30th and division. They told me I look like I got two different haircuts a fade on my right side and a straight all the way up buzz on my left side. This was my last straw at this place been there 4-5 times 2 for a buzz can't screw that up the other times were all screw ups. Thank god I didn't have a beer. I might've lost it in there if I did. I know I should've said something but I said a high fade I just didn't know I needed to say on my both my left and right side. read more
