Squirrel's Nest has a huge selection of high-quality, well-organized quilting fabrics, supplies,…read moreand books. You can find solids and all kinds of prints here, ranging from very traditional-looking stuff to modern/funky and everything in between, plus lots of seasonal designs. I'm not as knowledgeable on the knit/crochet/etc front, but the selection does appear to be pretty extensive for yarn artists as well. The staff seems friendly and knowledgeable, there are frequent classes (I took a great beginner class on free-motion quilting several months back), and there are always sample projects around to admire. This is not an all-purpose "fabric and craft store" in the same vein as the corporate chains, but I think it is THE place to shop as a quilter in this area! I should say, however, that you can get a lot of general sewing supplies here, like thread, interfacing, pins, needles, etc., and they do sell some sewing machines (mainly Brother, from what I've seen), but you'll need to look elsewhere for, say, apparel and home dec fabrics. The only major drawback for me are the hours--because they are only open 10:00a-5:00pm on weekdays and 10:00a-4:00p on Saturdays, and I work full time, my only options are to rush over on a lunch hour or wait for Saturday. I'd probably spend more time and money here if they were open even just an hour longer into the evenings.

A number of varied classes are available and others may be added per request. The instructors are knowledgeable and helpful. They sell HQ sewing machines by order. The shop owner is an HQ repair specialist and has been helpful with info regarding my new machine. There is a longarm machine on the premises that may be 'rented' after taking an appropriate class. I always look forward to my regularly scheduled Mystery Fabric classes and Block of the Month classes as well as others that are offered. Taking an occasional vacay day for an all day class is a true treat for me!

I've always wanted to learn how to use a sewing machine, and she lets you bring your own or use one of hers to learn on. She was very helpful and patient with us! I learned a lot and thought the class was really informative. We each left with our own apron that we made in the class, and a better understanding of our machines. I really loved the shop dogs and cat that were there as well! I am excited for my next class! Thank you so much :)

I came into this class pretty much knowing nothing (I had gotten my sewing machine a few months prior and took weeks to get it threaded. When I went to sew the thread bunched up and I gave up!). Shauna was patient with all of our questions and answered thoroughly. I loved the casual feel of the class, I didn't feel pressured to do things perfectly and overall the mood was relaxed. There were four other students in the class and we all laughed together and learned from one another. The classes were once a week for three weeks. We were provided with tools like scissors, pins, bobbins, etc (you can even borrow a sewing machine though it's best to bring your own so you can familiarize yourself with the machine you'll be using outside of class; fabric was not provided). Mondays are "drop in" days where anyone can come in and see - I'm looking forward to checking that out one day! Finished today's class with a beautiful apron that I am SO excited to use. Thanks again for the class, Shauna! Highly recommend this place to anyone learning how to sew or looking to improve their skills.
