My daughter and I visited this store while looking for a blouse suitable for Christmas dinner in a…read moreLolita style. While we were browsing, a staff member positioned themselves at a nearby display and remained there as we continued looking. When another staff member walked by, I smiled and said hello but did not receive a response. Prior to our interaction, we observed staff members actively chatting with other customers. We chose to leave shortly afterward and spend our money elsewhere.

This clothing exchange is very peculiar. In regards to…read moreclothing, the majority of their clothing seems to be matronly. They are very very selective on the clothing items they accept. This is what confuses me; is the store primarily for older women? If so, understand this before you come in. If not, then why not accept more youthful styles? Example: they accepted an old summer shawl I've had for years but they refused a fall dress/shirts I just got this year. About 1/3 of the store is children's clothing/items. 1/3 is women's clothing/items 1/3 home goods. The home goods are a fun hit or miss. Sometimes they have really cute stuff in for a decent price! Sometimes they have furniture! They do seem to have holiday displays. Currently they have a few racks of Halloween costumes which is fun! They even have a cute little Christmas section right now. I enjoy coming in occasionally and supporting the small business but I don't have high expectations when I come in.

There were some household items (e.g. sets of glasses and a shabby chic dining table). Clothes were neatly displayed and in some cases sorted by brands. I saw quite a few from Hollister, Forever 21 and Express. The fitting room attendant and cashier were both very helpful and sweet. If you bring in items to sell, you have the choice of: 30% of what they will price your item in cash or 50% of their price in store credit. I walked out with an Express dress (new with tags) for $17 and some righteous 80s footwear for $9. I'll be back again when I have the time to browse and find the good stuff.

OK, so I'll let U in on a not-so-secret of mine... I'm a major cheapskate! I'm not above buying…read moresomeone else's cast offs and proudly donning my "new" treasures. That said... I don't like having to spend a lot to make what is recycled mine. Twice As Nice charges way too much for most of their clothing. Most of their stock is outdated and obviously used. I totally get the whole trade-in concept - it's obvious that to make this business model work, Twice As Nice prays on it's consumers' desperation for something new to them. If U go for the cash option, U are seriously losing out, as it's half as much as the stingy trade-in exchange rate. The buyers at Twice As Nice have a way of dissing U and Ur previously loved items, usually only selecting a few of what U thought was some really good stuff. Kids clothing really isn't worth anything to them, so don't expect to get any serious credit for those adorable name brand items U splurged on, but the baby grew too fast. T-As-N is kinda fun to pop in to, every now & again, to see what they got in, especially if U are a penny-pincher and have time to kill.

But now I'm in the Southwest and the Target store in town sits near a major intersection looking neglected. There are always cars in the parking lot but most of them are for the Pizza Hut and Starbucks near the front entrance. I stopped by this place, finally, two days ago after work. I was looking for a cellphone rack to place in the classroom. Walmart didn't sell it and I came here. (Target didn't have one, either.) And then I remembered why I don't shop here anymore: there aren't any employees in the aisles! In fact, there were few people in the store and the largest crowd was at the pharmacy. Most of the employees were standing guard watching customers self-check out. Another reason why I won't shop here again (at least during the school year): most of the people inside the store were teenagers just walking the aisles looking at stuff. One teen recognized me and then two more. Next time I go to this store I'll wear a full-face mask and wig. I will add that the shopping cart I had rolled along flawlessly and the floors were clean and shiny.

The store has easily accessible parking, it's clean, and spacious. I wouldn't say a lot of items are worth the price when you can get the same branded items at other corporate chains, but I found a tote I needed at a reasonable price. Something I really thought was cool though is that their mascot (Bulleye) is now branded onto some merchandise, including as infant toys. No lanes were open besides self checkout, but the cashier running the self checkouts was friendly and social. I have mixed feelings about whether I'd recommend this place. As a store, it's better than most, but with the political climate and boycotts happening, that's really up to the customers to decide whether this is for them. It's on the pricier side anyway, and there really isn't much in the way of fashionable clothing for women that doesn't throw me all the way back to the early 00's. If you're seeking pet supplies like litter or food, you're better off going to Walmart, Frys, or anywhere else with ads and lower prices. Not a bad experience though. The book section, as always, is still pretty awesome.
