This is my go-to Indian restaurant! Everything is always perfect. I've gotten the chicken biryani (spicy) every time! It's actually spicy, flavorful, and chicken is juicy. The rice is perfectly cooked. Definitely recommend if you enjoy spice. The naan is great too. The portions are big and it will easily last me two days. I've ordered for takeout and dine in. I personally prefer takeout; The ambiance is okay inside, they definitely operate more takeout than dine in. However, service is friendly and quick. read more

The restaurant is completely self service and you'll be given to go boxes even if you decide to dine-in. A little stuffy and hot inside so most people prefer take out. It took almost 40 minutes for an order of dosa and chicken biryani to be ready. Food is good but service/ambience could be better. read more

Biryani City - Plain Dosai - Indian Near Me - Norristown, Pennsylvania

If you are looking for authentic Indian street food you have found your go to spot. W/ just a little bit of guidance anyone can roll in there & done like a pro. Before coming pack a small package of Clorox disinfectant wipes, a reusable shopping bag (leftovers ), hand sanitizer, a table cloth & small candle, nice disposable plates, a couple coasters to slide under the legs of the wobbly table, a wine bottle opener, and some silver ware. When you get there order. Right away! The whole order. Then find a table, clean, shim the legs to make it stable, spread the table cloth, lite the candle & then get your drink on. The restaurant provides paper plates and cutlery but since they are of low quality bring some better quality items as listed above. I patronize Biryani City for one reason and that is I love the Mysore Masala Dosa. This shit is the truth!!! Then I chop up the Vegetable Manchurian & gobble it down all together. For the table we ordered Shrimp Curry, Chicken Butter Masala, (out of this world amazing) onion kulcha & butter naan. Since all the food is brought out in to go containers it is very easy to share everything & haul it home. Don't get me wrong, the ambiance in this place is horrific at best. The food comes out as it's cooked so you might be halfway thru the meal & still not see your naan. The cleanliness is questionable at best & the rest room is scandalous. After all is said and done paying is simple & since there is no service staff tipping isn't required. I love BC & would love to give these restauranteurs 5 stars. The quality of the food demands it, however, the complete disregard for ambiance, cleanliness, & customer comfort drips the rating to 4/5. I will continue to patronize BC but my fervent hope is that the managerial team gets their act together & make this place a lot more dine in friendly. read more

Food is consistent, but it's catered to none Indian population. I'm not just saying the taste of the food, but the menu as well. The Norristown location had dosa, had puri so on and so forth the basic food items, they don't have here. And the spice was clearly from packet. Service was slow. The biggest thing that is going for this place is the local demographic. I do. Like the Indian music tho. read more

Fragrant and packed tightly, I was very excited to try the boneless chicken biryani because many of my classmates and colleagues have recommended this Indian restaurant for its authenticity. However, I found my dish to be a little too indulgent as it was oily and salty to me. Honestly, I definitely overate though because it was delicious. I find myself having many contradictions about this place. This one bowl lasted me three meals though! The chicken to rice ratio is veryyyy nice. I tried to be conservative with the spiciness, but I realized quickly that I should've gotten it spicier. I think I'd be open to trying Biryani City again. Maybe next time, I'll get a different kind of meat and ask for more spice. It was good, but not as good as my boyfriend's mom's biryani :) read more

We were in Biryani City on Sunday June 29th evening. Food is good. Our bill was $47.50. After we left Mr.Shiva called me and told me that left my daughters' shoe. He never told me that after one day throw in garbage or someone will stolen my daughters' shoe. I went on Tuesday and ask for my daughter's shoe. Mr.shiva told me deep cleaning and throw shoe. How you guys are so irresponsible to the customer of your Restaurant. I was shocked. I need an answer please. If I don't get the answer by 2days I will call police ok. Ordered on Uber Eats 3 items. Received the food with no contact delivery on my steps within an hour, which conserving I live 30 miles away was fantastic timing. The portions were very generous and of it worth getting again. Goat curry: spicy and extremely flavorful, little pieces of tender goat simmered to perfection. Would prefer bigger pieces but nothing to complain about Egg biryani: 4 eggs in one order! Not dry not soggy, really the taste I was looking for, every inch of it. Chicken tikka masala: very good and bigger chunks of meat than the goat, but that's to be expected. I prefer the goat curry over this but as tikki masalas go this is spot on. Will definitely get Biryani City again read more

Ordered from here a few times while traveling for work to PA. Consistently good. Not a big fan of any of the appetizers. But the veg and chicken biryani, dal and roti have always been good. Will continue to order from here when I need a quick Indian fix while in the Philly area. read more

Went to a new place for lunch! First we were dissapointed we could not sit in for the lunches from the old pictures online people raved about. You can sit in, but they will give you food as take out. None the less, our food was flavor packed with each item we ordered. Okay so, we both came with a lunch budget, co-worker and I, but left with bags of dinner. (We were hungry) she bought, veggie somosas- jam packed with flavor, fresh and hot, cauliflower 65-with crispy red sauce a bit spicy for "regular", and chicken tikka masala-slammin flavor not too tomatoey, with garlic naan. I too, purchased the chicken tikka masala, lollipop chicken- (which was the best thing I ordered) comes with sweet cooling sauce, and garlic naan. All food was fresh and hot and full of saucy seasonings. I want to order other things on the menu now. read more

I ordered via doordash and waited an hour for the absolute worst meal ever. The naans were stale and tough, clearly cheap Costco or Walmart rejects. The butter chicken was completely tasteless. The Apollo fish was flavorless. Their quality has hit rock bottom. When I called to complain that the naans weren't freshly made, they tried to dodge responsibility with lame excuses about being busy and having a new chef. Pathetic and unacceptable. I'm never ordering from them again. read more

"best biryani I've had in ages... !! better than Paradise... but service ll disappoint you for sure." - Shifted to Norristown Recently from NJ. I am a big fan of Biryani (Especially Goat)... so was looking for Paradise but that was 20 Miles away from my place, so found Biryani city in google search... decided to give it a try. Thank god, I come here... first spoon of biryani in the mouth and it was like wow, why Biryani city is not in NJ or all over the USA? I tried only Biryani and it was really amazing.. right blend of spices & flavors... Goat well cooked.. with raita and salan. I am sure their other dishes would be equally good. Will try for sure. Pros- They allow BYOB. Great food. The price is moderate and it is budget friendly Cons- Their Management and Service. I entered and the guy at the counter did not even acknowledge me. he was busy in Delivery call and packing them. I sit at one table without even asking anyone. Service is really slow. You have to deal with it. read more

I was at my friends house place and he ordered for a quick evening snack cut Mirchi and Chana masala.cut mirchi was fantastic, Onions that came with the cut Mirchi was seasoned perfectly and went very well with the tea.however the Chana masala had a lot of oil floating so we had to drain the oil and we used it .Chana masala was spicy and cooked really well, only part that we didn't like was the oil content . I would definitely order it again from this place and recommend for briyani or evening snack !! read more

Ehhhh, wasn't too impressed with the chicken or goat biryani. Both the rices were over powered by the elachi/cardamom flavor. Felt like I was biting into one every bit I was taking of the rice. For a place called biryani city you would expect them to have different types of biryani but not too many options. Also saw the chef walking around without a mask. So that didn't sit to well with me. Wouldn't come back if I want biryani. read more

The food is great but the portion sizes seemed really small considering the price. There was a long wait to get the food.

Among the better Indian restaurants in the Philly area. Went with a large group and ordered a lot. Particularly impressed with Chicken Chettinadu and apollo fish. Kerela parotta was just the way they serve it back home. Biriyani was nothing to write home about, though. They do not serve Dum Chicken biriyani. It's actually biriyani rice with something like chicken 65. Not bad, just not my taste. Goat biriyani had that particular meat aroma that I'm not too fond of. I would just order entrees with bread next time I am in Norristown. read more

Eh - I would only give this place a 3 star because they were kind enough to accommodate us and our requests and the biryani was pretty good (since the name). We ordered multiple things including an appetizer, Punjabi subzi naan and of course biryani. For vegetarians, there is only 1 biryani options. Come to think of it, there are only 5 types of biryani including different meats too so I am not sure how is this biryani city. The appetizer we ordered was a bit dry for us. The subzi and daal fry was ok ( I have had better). Chef's naan was pretty good. I was looking forward to more options for vegetarian biryani. I was in town visiting my parents and came across this place as a last minute option. I would recommend 1 try to this place for everyone as not everyone's taste buds are the same. read more

I have only gotten take-out here, as they are not yet doing indoor dining due to COVID-19, so this review is only about the food; not ambiance as I haven't set foot inside beyond pickup. Surprisingly, this place is in the corner of an unassuming strip mall in an out-of-the-way area (though it is one of three locations (Allentown PA, Norristown / Eagleville PA, Newark DE). But the food? Wow! Some of the dishes are almost addictive. I don't say this lightly. I've tried many local Indian cuisine restaurants. I've tried many restaurants in general, and not just locally but around the world. The Goat Chettinad has such umami. The Chicken Tika Masla has such great flavor and is creamy. And both, when ordered Very Spicy, were just the right level for me (I like spicy food). These two were dishes where I had to tell myself to stop eating: I was no longer hungry and was just enjoying the taste too much -- like a bag of potato chips. And I haven't even tried the Biryani yet! (For low carb reasons.) But I will. read more

I am so disappointed with the Chana Batura I ordered here last week. The batura was crispy like papad, hard and flat.. something that Any chef can see and tell it is over fried... I opened it within 20 min of picking it up and then called the restaurant to complain about this. Some guy took the phone and said someone will call from management to see what can be done. And I waited a week. No one called me! Please Biriyani City, you may have good Biriyani, but please have some properly trained people in the kitchen who not just cooks but follow basic etiquettes and accept if something goes wrong and learn to fix! 3/2/2019 Ordered masala dosa, got plain dosa !!! Astonished you how many times they have either missed or given wrong order when we picked up. read more

I've tried quite a few different Indian restaurants in the area and this one is definitely the best here. I've moved from an area where I had so many options that were full of flavor. Biryani City - Chicken Chicken Dish Platter Lunch - Indian Near Me - Norristown, Pennsylvania

Biryani city is my favorite restaurant on this side of Philadelphia suburbs. First impressions: It is a rather smaller establishment for the kind of business they run. There are sufficient tables, but that can change quickly at peak hours. The seating is comfortable and there is always random Indian movie dance numbers playing in the background. The guys are pretty friendly and courteous. They are a busy bunch but they always speak politely. Under the hood: They easily have the best Biryani to offer in this region. What makes it good is the consistency of the flavour and the tenderness of the meat. The meat is evenly cooked and the heat levels are acceptable. I have also noticed that Biryani City provides generous portions and hopefully they continue to keep that going. Having said that my personal favorite are their dosas. They are just perfect. I especially like the ghee roast paper dosa. It goes well with the assortment of chutneys. The sambar can be inconsistent for salt levels but is still a good bet. Recent I tried their kadai chicken and that was pretty awesome too. The sauce was very rich and bursting with tremendous flavor! Service: Service is probably the weak link for Biryani City and it is mostly due to being understaffed. When it gets crowded, the staff is not able to catch up with the pace of the demand. This has limited my ability to dine-in often here. I also get worried about bring my little kid in here as the wait times can get a little frustrating. I think if they had more space and couple more people, this place could become something special. In summary: This is a great place to get your Indian gastro fix. I recommend trying their various entrees. Everytime I try something new, it becomes my new favorite. read more

After reading some mixed reviews, I decided to take the plunge and try this place and I am glad I did. The Biryani is the best outside of India and Dubai (possibly London). The key to a good biryani are the layers of flavor and a very distinctive nutty flavor which comes from slow cooking aged Basmati rice. Biryani king managed to create this with the goat Biryani I ordered. I wish the goat was a little more tender but the rest of it was perfect. Beware that the goat will have bones on it since that is the original version which imparts more flavor. The decor of the place is sparse and when I visited, there were only 2 patrons and there was a faint smell of commercial cleaner in the air. I hope this place stays open long enough for me to get my Biryani fix. Next I shall try the Chicken Biryani and see if they cater a Kid Goat Biryani like they do in India. read more

Flavorful spread set out across two meals due to the portion size. I had the Friday lunch platter with chicken. Both curry sauces were delicious and the biryani tasted far more superb than it looked. Ate here about a week ago and it was very good. I had the Chili Chicken appetizer and it was very good. The chicken was a bit over breaded but otherwise good. I had the chicken curry. I did ask for very spicy and it was not. This is a traditional problem with 'spicy' in America vs. the UK or elsewhere when you order at an Indian restaurant. Still, for all that, it was tasty. I also had the garlic naan which was very good. read more
