Blyss is by far the most understanding medical person I've ever encountered. She compassion for her clients, her understanding of hard times, while still being a place of positivity is unmatched. She advocates for what her clients want and helps them advocate for themselves as well. The specialist she recommends really know their stuff (chiropractic care, breech specialists, and ultrasounds to name a few). I could not have chosen a better practitioner/midwife to be under the care of. So grateful she's part of my birth team. Her weekly prenatal group zoom calls have been supremely helpful during this difficult time. They've brought a sense of community I felt like I was missing during this pandemic. Quick disclaimer: I don't have a Yelp account so I'm posting on my husbands:) After seeing the Business of Being Born a few years ago, I knew that I wanted a home birth. I don't consider myself too far off the deep end when it comes to woo woo stuff, but I do lean towards a holistic approach when it comes to health and wellness. After several miscarriages beginning in early 2104, my husband and I finally had a pregnancy that seemed to be sticking in late 2015. Given my history I wasn't to quick to get my hopes up, but at 20 weeks I decided that maybe it was time to start interviewing midwives. After interviewing a few wonderful ladies we still hadn't found the perfect match. I continued searching and came across The Sanctuary website and somehow from there wound up on Blyss's Facebook page. Everything on her page was exactly what I thought pregnancy and childbirth is and should be. A beautiful, divine, magical, empowering experience that should be embraced and celebrated. I emailed Blyss and scheduled and appointment immediately. I fell in love with Blyss from the beginning. She was holistic and yet practical. She was knowledgeable, maternal and approachable in a way that made her seem like an old friend. Fast forward 5 months later and my perfect baby boy made his way into the world. Blyss has played a larger role in my pregnancies and motherhood than she might realize. Before having her beautiful supportive soul at the birth of my second child I was truly saved by a new moms group at her previous birthing center after the birth of my first. I was a brand new mom who had abruptly relocated to LA (for a tragic loss in our family) and honestly that moms group was the only thing that brought positive supportive vibes my way during that difficult time. Fast forward to my second birth, I am so delighted that Blyss was a part of the entire process with me. She was beyond supportive and accommodating for my needs during pregnancy. I was an emotional mess the second time around and Blyss made me feel like I was allowed the space to be a little crazy and helped suggest different things throughout the process that might help my anxiety and other emotions. She helped calm my concerns about the birth as well (somehow I had much more anxiety about everything the second time around). Her presence was definitely needed and even during and after the birth she was an incredibly calming force for me, my husband, and our baby. I had to be transferred to the hospital after the birth on round 2 and Blyss played an important role along with my two other midwives and doula. Everyone helped our family make the best choices that needed to be made and kept our house and sanity together during it all. I also had Blyss prepare my placenta for freezing segmented pieces to be used in smoothies. Something I never thought I would do but was nudged into with my first birth and I believe it helped my immediate postpartum phase. I could not recommend Blyss more for doula and midwifery services!!! There were times during my pregnancy where I couldn't/didn't want to hear from other people but my brain/body were open to hearing what she had to say. She has the supportive energy you would imagine from a person who has dedicated their career to helping other women peacefully and safely birth as well as transition into a new phase of their lives. Through the whole process of our birthing journey, Blyss was absolutely wonderful. The support that she gave my wife and I had us feeling comfortable at every moment. Blyss was great at handling all of our questions and setting us up for a home birth the way that we envisioned. We did encounter some obstacles along the way, as my wife's water broke more than three days before our son came. However, Blyss was there to guide us and instill confidence to ensure both baby and mom were safe through it all. The entire process of birthing is very rewarding and having the right guides can be crucial. Looking back on the experience my wife and I smile at how happy we were to have Blyss with us. This was our 4th baby and first with Blyss. She was really supportive, uplifting and allowed my wife to be confident in her labor. She was really accommodating considering we live in OC. She met us halfway and drove down to our house for some visits as well. She encouraged my wife to move around during pregnancy and was there for her holding her hand when i was pulled away with our other kids. My wife and I had a wonderful experience with Blyss's placenta encapsulation. Our baby was born at 5:00am, and Blyss's associate Desiree was at the hospital two hours later to collect the placenta. We then received the pills the next day. Desiree was kind enough to come up to our hospital room, meet the baby, and discuss with my wife what to expect while taking them over the next few weeks. In short, the process was very easy and both Blyss and Desiree were always available to answer any questions. Blyss is defined as "joy, cheer, intense happiness. " I can't think of a better name for Blyss. A wonderful loving soul who is just a blessing to whoever gets to have her in their life. I met Blyss 4 years ago when I was pregnant with my first child. She had opened the Sanctuary, which was one of the freestanding birth centers in LA. She wasn't an official midwife just yet but she definitely was born to be in this line of work. She gave us the tour of the birth center and just talked and got to know us. She made us feel so welcomed and excited for this new journey we found ourselves on. When I was 36 weeks I found out I had a uterine septum which was preventing my baby from turning to the head down position, so my baby was breech. Blyss saw me crying because I thought my whole birth plan was out the window. She listened to us and on her own she told me to talk to Dr.Stu to do an External Cephalic Version (manually turn the baby to head down position) and to visit Dr.Berlin to get an adjustment. Of course we did both and babygirl stayed head down and I was able to have my natural unmedicated out of hospital birth! We moved from LA & now reside in Bakersfield and when I got pregnant with my second I still was in touch with Blyss over the years. She was so happy and excited for us and was finishing midwifery school! I had another midwife and planned a home birth. We took it week by week and if baby was breech again we could just do an ECV again with Dr.Stu Time came and baby was just an unstable lay which forced my midwife to transfer my care because even after the ECV she still turned! I contact Blyss in tears and tell her what happened. Blyss then calls me and calms me down and basically told me not to give up yet. She contacted her connections and got a plan set up for me. All I had to do was get my butt to LA! Of course we went to LA and she took over my prenatal visits. We literally took it Day by day ... she was so supportive. Everyday she reminded me to let go and believe and trust in my body. She never pushed me into a decision. When we went to the hospital to meet with our wonderful back up doctor who would be willing to deliver breech. He talked to us about ALL our options and Blyss was so reassuring,supportive, helpful and empowering. She just reminded me it's my body , my choice and whatever decision we went with she would respect! We chose to wait until labor started and aimed for a home delivery! Every prenatal visit was so nerve wracking but Blyss made us feel at ease. My daughter loved her especially because she involved her in the visit! Something as a simple as pushing the button for the Doppler. Every time we got home my daughter wanted to go back to see Blyss because that's just how sweet and amazing she is. You just WANT&NEED to be around her. Well labor came and baby was breech (which was already part of the plan) but we had a decel so we l, as a team , made an informed decision to transfer to the hospital, where I delivered my second perfect babygirl.. breech and natural unmedicated birth! No regrets. It was absolutely perfect. Blyss gave me my voice back. She made my birth so empowering. She let me own my birth especially my breech birth. I cry tears still because I was so SO close to a C-section. I can't recommend Blyss enough. Everyone who hires her as a midwife is so lucky so fortunate to have a pure loving soul who was seriously born to be a midwife. She trained with the best and it shows. It's amazing how she played a part in the success of both my births. For that I will forever be grateful for her. After a horrendous few OBGYN consults, my husband and I decided to look into natural birthing options when we were pregnant with our first born. We first met Blyss in 2013 when we entered The Sanctuary in Venice, CA.
