I called to book an appointment for my infant based off a referral from her doctor. They couldn't see her until a month out. They asked for our insurance information on that initial call and I provided it to them and they confirmed they took our insurance. We go to the appointment a Month later only for them to tell us they don't take our insurance. Not only did I wait one month for this appointment, but now my daughters medical condition has to go without care for even longer until we can get an appt with another doctor all due to Dr Birns offices negligence. read more

I have held off for years writing this review but I have to finally decided that now is the time to write about my son's incredibly difficult journey that began with extreme negligence on the part of by Dr. Jeffrey Birns. I only write this now to warn other parents of the dangers you are presenting your child by allowing them to be treated by this man. My son is now 12 years old and is about to undergo his 7th, yes 7th surgery, to hopefully fix a very complicated ear issue that was created years ago by a surgical mistake made by Dr. Birns. Here is the story: my son got his first set of ear tubes when he was one year old and then again when he was three years old. On the second tube procedure, Dr. Birns made the incision for the tube in his right ear too large, and as a result, when the tube fell out, there was a gaping hole in his eardrum for almost 2 years which never healed properly. On countless visits, Dr. Birns refused to graft it, and we decided to go to a different ENT to get a second opinion. This ENT immediately noticed there was cholesteatoma caused by the hole Dr. Burns refused to fix (you can look it up but basically it is an in-ear cyst that can cause serious permanent damage) growing inside his right ear, and referred us to a neurotologist who advised that our son have surgery immediately due to the serious nature of the cholesteatoma. During the surgery, we were informed that the cholesteatoma had eroded his ear bones so severely that all of them had to be removed along with the cholesteatoma. This obviously made my son deaf since he had no hearing bone. Nine months later a titanium prosthesis was placed in his inner ear so he could hear again. Many surgeries have followed in order to adjust the prosthesis, and my son is prepping for yet another surgery next month to reposition the prosthesis due to the fact that he has no hearing in his right ear yet again. Suffice to say, this has been a long and difficult journey, caused depression and difficulty reading for years since he couldn't hear properly. Everyday I am reminded of the pain and suffering he has endured as a result of him being a patient of Dr. Birns. I plead with all parents to look elsewhere when choosing an ENT for your child. read more

Dr Birns performed ear tube surgery on my son when he was 8 months old. This decision was difficult for my husband and I and at no time throughout the "deliberation" process did we feel rushed or persuaded either way by Dr Birns. He was informative and patient and we ultimately went with the decision to go ahead with the surgery. Now my son is almost 2 years old and he loves visiting Dr Birns for check ups. Dr Birns will say "Luca, I am going to look in your mouth." And my little one just obliges, very different experience from which we encounter at the dentist. I would give Dr. Jeffrey Birns nothing but all 5 stars! So knowledgeable and caring doctor. Dr. Birns was our second opinion doctor and I am glad we did choose him. He performed some hearing test for our daughter, explained step by step what our problem is , showed and explained it with pictures and understandable words for us. Showed us benefits of the procedure we are looking for to have and explained step by step how it's done. I was so frustrating after our visit to the other doctor, but dr. Birns made it much more less stressful and understandable. I would definitely trust this doctor! read more

Do not see Dr.Birns unless you want to be insulted or get a Lecture so he says. I had no choice but to see him and he belittled me. The office manager was nice but informed me this never happens. Untrue I see reviews below and I've talked to people and he's not nice. I prefer Dr Strocker and I will NEVER recommend him ever. He is supposed to be a pediatric dr. Dr. Birns seriously blew me away. My son hurt his nose on Friday, I went to my MD saturday am, and as soon as I left I called him and returned my call right away... on 4th of July weekend! He had me come in right when they opened up which was perfect for time allowed after a nasal incident. Besides having a great kids-friendly office, his energy and bedside manner is so positive and enjoyable. He made a very scared, emotional mother feel comfortable. What was most impressive is he took the time to explain the ramifications and what to look out for should something serious occur in the future - vs just assessing what had happened now. Dr. Birns removed my sons tonsils and adenoids and we had such a wonderful experience with him! First of all, his office staff is super organized, nice and helpful. Everything was explained to me so well so I knew what to expect. He performed the surgery at a private surgery center which was cozy and intimate. Dr. birns made us and my son feel comfortable before and after the surgery. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and most importantly, my son is feeling great! It was the best decision we made for him and the doctor we chose was also the best decision we made. Highly recommended!! read more

Dr. Birns was great with our 18-month old daughter. She needed tubes in her ears because of chronic ear infections. He didn't rush us into making the decision. He simple laid out all the pros and cons and gave us additional material to read. Once we decided to move forward with the surgery, he explained everything again, in a way that put our minds to ease (as much as possible). The surgery went quickly and our daughter made it through unscathed. I would definitely recommend him. read more

I decided to take my daughter to Dr. Birns because of all of the glowing reviews I saw on Yelp. However, my experience was so much different than the others, it's almost as if I saw a different doctor. The reason I gave Dr. Birns 2 stars instead of 1, is because I do believe he is an excellent doctor. Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience. It's almost as if he brought in "baggage" from other patients into the room with him. I believe he judged me immediately by looking at me and immediately started talking down to me. My daughter has had a runny nose for 3 years. I've seen many doctors and tried everything. I came to Dr. Birns to hopefully find some answers. Instead, I got "Other than it being annoying for you, your husband and grandma, does the runny nose bother her?" He went on about how parents come in and demand surgery for their kids but it might not even work, that pother doctors do surgeries because they want to please the parents, that doctors should do no harm because of the possible complications, etc. It was as if I walked in and said "Hi, I want you to operate on my child because that's what I think you should do." I never once said this. I'm just hoping to work with a doctor who can help us find the answers to stop my daughter's nose from running. No, it is not a life threatening condition, but I have to explain it to teachers, parents, other kids, family, constantly because everyone always thinks she's sick, when she's not. Anyway, Dr. Birns looked at her nose and told her to sniff, but he didn't do a culture of her nose (despite the fact I told him she gets recurring bacterial infections in there) or look at her adenoids, however he did discover a double ear infection. I felt like I sat there for 20 minutes while he talked AT me about why he shouldn't do surgery, compared her runny nose to acne and treatment options for that, complained about a nanny who brought a child in and he said he wouldn't see the child unless the parent brought the child because "he doesn't doctor by proxy so you shouldn't parent by proxy..." Maybe I caught him on a bad day? I don't know, but it was a truly awful experience. He prescribed antibiotics for the double ear infection, and asked me to come back in 2 weeks. I'll follow dr's orders and come back, but I'll be scheduling the appointment with his partner, Dr. Strocker, NOT Dr. Birns. read more
