I had the most helpful, kind, patient and knowledgable customer service at the building. The website says the address is 3600 North, Birmingham, AL, but it is actually very close but not the address they say on their website. Because of that, I am using 4 stars rather than 5. The man was so wonderful to work with, I was and am still amazed by his incredible service. I'd like to write his name here, but I'm not sure if that is a good idea. Birmingham Water Works / Central Alabama Water Works us the worst organization I have ever encountered. After a horrible day spent trying to get our water turned back on, that consisted of someone turning our water off, spending 4-hours on hold trying to get in touch with someone, being told 3:00 pm is considered after hours, couldn't guarantee they could get someone out, being told they would not be able to turn our water back on until sometime between 7am - 7pm on Monday. It is the most outrageous thing that I have heard or witnessed dealing with any public utility / service company. read more

The pressure at my house was low and I had called the plumber, he replaced the regulator (expense bill). Still didn't have much pressure so I called the Water Board. That part was a bit of a workout but, my request, by the man (Robert) who comes to help, was answered sure fast and easy to talk to. He made sure I was home, worked with my schedule and kept me update on his arrival time. He told me what he needed to do, he fix it and now I have water pressure! As others have said an absolutely horrible utility to deal with. They told me the bank had returned my check but in talking to them the name of the bank they gave me wasn't my bank and I had never had an account with that bank. The last four digits of the account didn't match mine either. I tried telling that to the customer service rep who became angry and told me if I didn't pay by 3pm my water was going to be cut off. Then she hung up on me. There is no accountability or oversight. A class action lawsuit may be the cure. read more

It's too bad I have to give 1 star because the people deserve nothing. My mother bought a new house and getting the water on in her name was a major task with these idiots. In December about a week before Christmas she called to have the water transferred to her name (the water was still on at this point). They said it would be no problem, so my mother went ahead with planning Christmas at the new house because with my sisters new born and my 95 year old grandmother and the fact that my mom had chipped a bone in her sholder moving boxes, it was supposed to be better for us all. Well on the day before Christmas they came out, shut off the water, and locked the faucet. They claim that we never showed proof of ownership, and that there was a place on their website to upload this information, however, there is not, only a place to upload a lease agreement. So we spend Christmas with no water. The day after Christmas we go down to the water works office to show proof of ownership, which is loaded on to a CD. The lady claims that her CD drive doesn't work and refused to help us, so we ask for a supervisor. She come over and immediately starts with a attitude. She says there is a firewall blocking the CD from being read (I work in IT so I know this is a lie). She then says "oh we are scheduled to have your water turned on today" (at this point still haven't proved ownership) but I think she was just trying to get rid of us before I asked for her supervisor to inform them of her bad attitude. She also asked us to try the website again to try to upload the ownership files. Now, I just left water works, checked the website nothing on there at all about uploading ownership information, the water is still off and even if it gets turned on today how long till they come to turn it off again since I have no way to upload these files. I really hate this utilities company and I know online reviews and good customer service means nothing to them but please be careful when dealing with this shady company. read more

The worst..... I called to get information on the minimum usage and what the charge is for minimum usage. I was told the system was down and they had no idea when it would be available. I asked if anyone could tell me this basic information and was told no one. "The system was down and they had no idea when it would be available and to call back" I asked for an approximate time..... an hour, a day or a week. I was told they had no idea how long. Just a basic question. The minimum charge for the month and how much water usage for the $$.00. Absolutely no idea. HUH? read more

I have an empty house in Vestavia... small house.... I do not live there anymore but my water bill goes up and down.. no reason... the water works has check and in writing told me there is no leak... I have all of the water turned off in the house except two places... no leaks... yet my bill can be any thing.. no logical... they claim to read the meter... ? I believe that make up any amount of use that pleases them at the moment... I pay the minimum plus an overage of around $30. for water and sewage used....? no one lives there... and the worst of it all is that the water board does not have management team that you can communicate with to discuss anything... they do have someone who answers the phone and tells your they will have your meter read again... duh...? good water... maybe... good service and honest meter readings.... Website isn't functional for basic services, so you have to show up in person when moving your service. Upon arrival I was informed that Customer Service is "closed due to COVID," but they have one person working. Literally 20 people waiting in line. Meanwhile, they have two security guards moving you from seat to seat while you wait. I accomplished the same task online with Alabama Power in about 30 seconds. read more

This is by far the worst utility company in my 46 years paying that I've ever encountered. This water works board is a bunch of fraudulent and incompetent group of people. My water bill runs roughly 46 to 76 a month. I just received a $194 bill for whatever reason they felt was needed. I have no leaks at my home but for some reason I get a bill 3 times the normal amount. I had another reading done and when the meter reader showed he told me that there was definitely an inaccurate reading. 1 week later I get the same bill and made another phone to the waterworks and I was told I still had to pay??? These people need to be stopped, they are stealing from hard working american people that don't deserve this. I will take this to our attorney which will result in attorney fees but it is worth it to me to get this stopped. Also just as a future reference to anyone who doesn't know this, the day that your meter reader shows, go out and timestamp a picture of your meter from that day until your next reading. Falsely being over charge fraud! I'm continually receiving high water bills/sewer charges from Birmingham Water Works when I and they know my bills aren't being read nor do I owe the amount in question. September I received a bill over $400.00 and October I received a bill for over $500.00 and now In November 2020. I received a bill for $1114,78 and I know for a fact this is a scam and a lie! I'm the only one that lives at my address and I'm hardly home myself. Now these people think their going to keep charging me what they want and I'm going to be foolish enough to pay but I'm not.. They need to be investigated and charged for fraud. I'm also filing a complaint with the Attorney General office and going to the new meter about these crooks. Worst utility to deal with in Birmingham. I am preparing to move and was able to transfer my service with spire and Alabama power online with zero problems. When I went to transfer my service for Birmingham water Works, the online form says that the ZIP Code I have chosen to transfer my service to was invalid. I checked it like 20 times and it is correct. I called BWW and told them I was having difficulty with the website and the person on the phone checked the ZIP Code and it was correct but he said if I cannot get water service transferred via the website, I have to go into BWW to get it done in person. WHAT?????? Because their website is not working properly, I have to take a day off of work to go downtown to BWW to establish water service??? That's ridiculous read more

I really can't give any rating for their service, as there is none for my choice. if there was anything available for negative rating, I will give that the highest -5*. I don't think they really cares for the rating. I have not seen any one satisfied with BWWB. The AL Power and Spire company does an excellant job. I am not getting monthly water bill/statement for more a year. And they disconnected my service and put me for 3 days in an ordeal, though I paid same day. It took 3 days to show on their side to get water back on again. No body warned me that I was missing the payments. So I started autopay, called 3 times, but still not getting the bill. Contacted local post office. They said lots of other people have same problem with BWWB. in my opinion all members should be fired and managed by a private company. These fools are fed by the tax payers money and they don't deserve that. They rather starve. read more

If I could give them zero stars, I would. I had current service at one house and was needing to move it to the new location I was moving to. I went in online and did everything I needed to do to change my service over. I never received an email or anything confirming it so about a week later I sign in to make sure everything is the way it is supposed to be and it is wrong. I go through all of the steps again. This time it has me upload a copy of my lease agreement, which it did not have me do the first time. This time I get email confirmation of all my changes. A couple of weeks later, I go home and do all my normal things at home and I have water. No note on the door, nothing. Later that night around 10 p.m. I turn the kitchen faucet on to give the dogs some water and the water is off. I have to take off work the next day because I cannot take a shower and I have to get the water situation straightened out. I call the waterworks and they say that the meter has been pulled because someone called them and reported that water was being used at that location and there should not be any water used there. I told them yes I had a lease and the water was in my name and yes there was supposed to be water being used at that location. Well guess what? They never put the water in my name. After two attempts and putting the account in my name online, it still was not in my name. They said I would have to come to the downtown office to get that done. Then why is it on their site to do it that way if you have to come to the downtown office to have it done? I only have a digital copy of my lease and believe it or not they could not take that file and print a copy for me so I had to go to my office and print a copy of the lease and while I was at it, I retrieved a copy of all the emails I received confirming my changes that I had made previously that did not work. I showed them all this. They didn't care. So in the process of setting everything up she tells me that I will have to pay a $100 deposit. Okay lady I have had service with you for 37 years, why do I have to pay a deposit to move my service from one location to another. I have never had to do that before. She says because I have never paid a deposit before. I kid you not. Because I have never paid a deposit before. The real truth is because they are trying to recoup some of the money they have misspent all these years. They are screwing all of us to get it. Thank God I have finally moved to a place where I am no longer on sewer so they have to stop raping me with their ridiculous sewer costs. So after I finally get everything taken care of downtown, they tell me they will be out no earlier than 3:00 p.m. to turn the water on and I have to be there for them to turn it on. I leave and drive straight home. I get there at 2:30 p.m. They were already there and getting ready to leave. If I had missed them, I would have had to pay extra to have them come back out. So I show the paperwork where I had made all my changes online to the man turning the water back on and he said he sees that all the time where people have made changes and they wind up cutting the water off or not getting it cut on correctly because the updates never get made. As I was about to type this up and was reading other bad reviews, Birmingham Waterworks called me and told me that they received my water bill back in the mail. They wanted to know the correct address. They had my address in Vestavia Hills, AL when I live in Warrior, AL. They were about to cut my water off again. How could they have screwed up my address after everything else they put me through? Birmingham Waterworks is the most ill run utility company I have ever dealt with in my life. And we called them more than 3 times and went to their location twice a day, they say they come and they fixed that, and they told us that you should stay at home!! We stay we had a lot of work to do but we stay at home all the day but they don't come!!who response for our loss time!! Just absolutely the worst. After 8.5 years as customers, I had our kids visiting family out of state during the summer for three weeks and my husband didn't see the water bill. The day after kids and I got back, water was shut off. Had to pay total balance plus reconnect fee plus $200 deposit to get back on. I asked when I'd get deposit back and was told 'when you move.' I said we had no plans to move, so when would my money be returned. Again told when we move. Finally called back to talk to someone else, who told me we could 'apply' to get it back after two years of on-time payments (8.5 years prior apparently had no bearing). We now have it set up to auto-pay on a credit card because the bill often arrives and is due less than a week later, making "on-time" payments nearly impossible. Have now contacted them twice about getting back deposit and - can you believe it?! - haven't heard back. At one point last year our bill had suddenly tripled and let me just say, after a decade with BWWB I didn't even attempt to call them, I just started making payments because prior experience has taught me that they don't give a rat's hairy behind if your bill has suddenly and inexplicably skyrocketed, they'll tell you that you must have a leak and pretty much to go get bent. Imagine my surprise when a few months later they actually sent corrected bills and refunded the overage. But I promise you, if I'd called at the time those rude 'customer service' people (a misnomer if ever one existed) would have not batted an eye while telling me to pay that tripled bill on time or else. BWWB deserves zero stars. The water reeks of chlorine and the rates are thievery. All thumbs vehemently down! read more

I wish I could give 0 stars. I paid my water bill (some of which was overdue) by the due date on the bill - February 10th. Today my water was shut off - February 13th. I called to get it back on before I had to leave the house (they won't turn it on if no one is at home) to take my daughter to the airport and run carpool. I understand they have a lot going on with turning peoples water on and off, but this was their mistake. Now it is my inconvenience. Customer service was NO HELP. BTW, please read the back of your bill. They can turn it off at anytime after 30 past due with or without notification. Basically, Birmingham is screwed for water service. read more
