You won't regret it! The long version: My father + I have been golfing together since I was super young. (He secretly hoped for me to be the next Michelle Wie, pfft) But it was always casual and my father has always been my "coach". Fast forward to now, after a longggg hiatus I'm now in my late twenties and about to move to the Carolinas where there is a myriad of golf courses (like Florida). I really wanted to be more than just "decent" or "okay" and hold my own out there. Lets just say that I wanted to graduate from schooling everyone at Mini Golf and get ready for the Big Leagues ;D That's where Mike Simmons comes in. My father found Mike and we immediately set lessons together as a Father-Daughter activity together before I move away. We bought a package from Mike that includes 6 Lessons and round of Golf on the course. Despite having some experience and my father being his own self proclaimed guru (with clubs straight from 1970s and never updated, mind you) Mike is able to break down the fundamentals of the game in a very thorough and concrete way. (And convinced my father to update his clubs! haha) Our lessons consisted of learning all aspects of the game. History, foundation, long range, short game. And all the little details in between from your stance, how to properly how the club, lining your shot. Nothing is missed. At times it may seem like information overload but once you hit that sweet shot you'll have that "Ah-ha!" moment that only Mike could provide. If I wasn't leaving in a couple of months I would definitely get more lessons from him. A++

However, you can catch me here 2-4 times a week as it is one of my most favorite places to walk and look at gorgeous homes. The entire loop is about 2.7 miles which is perfect for getting to your step goal. If you don't have time (or it is too hot) to walk the entire thing, you can split it up on Granada. When it comes to parking, off of Coral Way and Cardena street there is free visitor parking for up to 2 hours. Overall, it's a great walking route that has gorgeous homes as scenery and friendly folks you will see regularly walking or running about.

It's a very nice course, which of course I'm not allowed full access to but it's always busy and is wee maintained. Because wheelchairs are not allowed onto the green we are limited to how much we can play but they've managed to accommodate us with space and activities we can enjoy. An area for putting, an area for pitching and on the driving lane, if that's what it's called. The whole area is not necessarily handicapped accessible, but it works. I need to be pushed around at some points because it's very hilly and I'm terrified of hills.

You can expect to get a little breathless and sweaty within a few minutes of starting since they start you right away with active climbing. It takes a little time to get used to stepping and pushing/pulling vertically while strapped into the climber, since the movement is different from your other daily activities. You need to remind yourself not to crane your head and neck back---don't worry, your head will not hit the climber center pole, trust me I've tried. But if it's good enough for Bradley Cooper (see the article about Rise Nation they have posted next to the restroom), it must be good enough for me. If you're going for the first time, make sure to look at the schedule and see what levels are being offered in their classes. They have classes ranging from Level I (good for beginners, can add on) to Level III ("EXTREME"), so pay attention to what you attend. The staff and instructors are very nice and helpful about getting you situated on the climber, so don't hesitate to tell them if it's your first time. Hint: the handles that you grab onto can be removed and put in different height holders, which they will tell you. The instructors will tell you that they go between a "mid range" (regular strides) and "long range" (full strides). Their cues will alternate between these ranges, different resistances and faster/slower paces. Once you get used to the climber, don't be afraid to go faster, "rip" (reach and stride) longer and increase resistance when they instruct you to. Remember, you need to get it all in within 30 minutes! The actual class time can run up to 35-40 minutes if you stay for the full cool down and stretch, so don't expect to bolt out in 30 minutes if you want the full workout experience. It's still a very efficient workout if you're looking to change up your exercise routine! They offer lots of promotional packages that give you 10 classes for $10-15 each, so look for them online and when you go! And/or use the amazing ClassPass like me, since each class costs 6-7 credits. Parking is not too bad for the Design District, since there is a lot of street parking within a block or two of the studio's building. There's a juice bar on the same block if you want to treat yourself for all the good work you've done! Try it out, see you there soon!

I also want to recognize the entire team from the entrance staff, security, servers, and management. Everyone was welcoming, professional, and made the park feel organized, calm, and relaxing despite how busy it was. The only constructive feedback I have is regarding the FlowRider. I completely understand the importance of the safety video, but I believe guests should receive a brief explanation of why they're required to watch it. They'll also clean your clubs once you've finished. Water is available quite often throughout the course to refill your bottle. Booking is a hassle if you're traveling in as they only open online 5 days in advance or require you to book via a hotel concierge. Price is high, but is apparently in line with other courses in the area. I'm used to $100 being the top end in the Chicago so $177 is a bit shocking when nothing particularly justifies the extra cost. It's golf and I had a good time at the end of the day but I think value could be better.
