When I first visited La Jolla over ten years ago, I had the good fortune to book a facial with Birdie. She was extremely attentive, personable & knowledgeable. My face glowed and I felt happy and relaxed. Fast Forward to today, I've been living in the area for almost ten years now, and I've been going to see Birdie as often as I can for her amazing facials ever since that first one....the Vitamin C Facial that I received today was super relaxing and hydrating. My face feels great and my skin is dewy & glowing. Birdie knows her stuff and she is always kind and welcoming. Birdie is so sweet and attentive. I had a wonderful facial with her. She took her time with me and was very patient. She truly loves what she does and this made for a very relaxing atmosphere. 3.5 stars I went to Birdie a few years back for 2 appointments. The first spa facial I had was wonderful. Birdie made me feel like a princess and my face left feeling smoother than it had in a long time. I was a student at a time, so $ for a facial was definitely a treat for me. I bought some of the products that she recommended. The second time I went, her attitude was changed. To be fair, she said she had been to a dentist that day and her teeth ached. Still, she was very negative in spirits, acted like she hated treating my skin because I had so many clogged pores, and berated me for not treating my face right. I am not pimply , I just have lots of blackheads. She had taught me in my first session that I didn't wash with the right soap, and I was trying to rectify the situation with the soap I bought from her, but still, I do't know why she would be upset at my clogged pores when she had seen in a couple of weeks before, and I was using her soap, so there should have been gradual improvement. To top it off, she charged me an extra $10 for the "deep cleansing." But this service was clearly listed as something that should have been provided in my basic facial. She is a great facialist, but I couldn't deal with the negative energy and the upcharges. Maybe it was an off-day, but $80 is a lot to spend and deal with someone else's negative energy and acting like I (the paying customer) was a burden to her. I have been seeing Birdie since she was in Salon Sol in Sorrento Valley. Firstly, may I say that I am so happy for her breaking out and opening her own location. Located in La Jolla, parking is pretty easy because there are dedicated parking spots in front of her spa. I have very sensitive skin (it turns red and blotchy if I use any harsh detergents, go into the ocean, etc) and I needed some help because i dated a guy that has a beard that is rough. Birdie really customizes her facials for each client because she understands that no two people are the same. On top of making my skin smooth and evening my skin tone, I also learned a LOT about what I should be doing, eating, and just generally felt like a better person. Her hands are like butter. She is always so connected with you and she gives massages on your feet, hands, and back, and decolette while the customized mask is doing its thing--very worth it for the price. I have also gotten seaweed body wraps from her and my skin felt tighter immediately. There are also massage therapists on site if you want more than a facial. I came here without an appointment and Birdie graciously accommodated me. I had a 50-minute massage with Angel that was great. Even better, I had the best night of sleep I had had in a long time and some of my nagging neck pain miraculously disappeared. Best facial I've ever had (and I've worked at 2 major spas) very personalized service. I don't think I've ever had such an advanced screening BEFORE my facial. Birdie asks every question you can think of to better find out how to treat your skin. Also asks you what you feel you need help with. If you want a personalized experience go to Birdie Day Spa, it really is the best customer service in a day spa I've ever seen. She will also recommend some products she think will work for you and give you free samples. She is not pushing product on you by any means, she is very sweet and wants you to leave happy and relaxed. I did purchase a product and it was not very $$$ it was very fairly priced and I was happy to have such a nice product to bring home with me. I had a massage with Glenda and it was one of the best massages I've had! She was very attentive to tense areas (for me neck and shoulders) and applied just the right amount of pressure, deep but not painful. She checked in regarding pressure, but not in an annoying way as to interrupt the relaxation. The spa is quite simple, but in a great location in downtown La Jolla. My friend and I made a day of it, walking around La Jolla and seeing the shops, before the massages. A great day indeed and I will definitely return for a massage with Glenda. read more

There are a variety of spa treatments offered in which Birdie customizes based on each individual. It's as if each treatment is personalized for you which defines and separates her spa from many others. For our 3-year anniversary celebration, we decided to get some massages at Birdie Day Spa. From the moment we arrived, we felt very welcome and comfortable. We were offered water and/or tea while we filled out a quick health questionnaire. Since this was a couples massage, they even accommodated us in the same room! Then came the massages, which were absolutely fantastic. I'm into deep tissue, and my therapist had the strongest hands ever. She was also very good at finding all the knots and paying some extra attention to particularly sore spots, she was very knowledgable. I've been going to Birdie for over 3 years. She customizes her facials depending on ones skin... I actually don't ever tell her exactly what I want; I just lay down and let her work her magic. I always walk out with brighter and tighter skin and my man always compliments me after I go to her. She is all about natural methods (no surgery, etc.) and eating healthy for your skin. Simply amazing - fire your dermatologist for the dry skin, pimple, sun spot, or other typical skin care issue - forget the strong meds and chemical peels - Birdie works wonders with your skin working outside in and inside out - just incredible how the dry spots my derma gave me tube of crud made worse and Birdie fixed one treatment and gave me her magic lotions that make my skin look great - I surf and am super outdoor active so skin care very important to avoid turing into lizard man- Birdie makes me so good looking I can't stand myself - really - I can't even go out in public without being mistaken for Brad Pitt - er ah, not really but you get the point - she's is incredible skin care guru - end of story read more

I have had several facials and this is the best one I have ever received. My face was a disaster when I went in, all red and broken out. When I left there, my skin was practically clear and it was glowing. It was amazing and I would go back to la jolla just to get another one. My mother had a massage from here and also was amazed.
