Let me tell you, everyone was very happy with their pre-ordered set meals, but I've never been so well catered for with my "special request" meals. The starter was much like the dairy version, a thick, earthy mushroom soup that was amazing. Instead of mushrooms on toast I had mushrooms on mushrooms and an avocado version of a Caprese salad. The show-stopper was the main of FIVE different mini dishes (fish plate had four). Including: a roasted aubergine stack, herbed rice, roasted mix vegetable stack, roasted beetroot, and curried sweet potatoes. Visually appealing and tasted very flavourful due to the freshness. The only let down was the dessert (it always is). A bowl of fruit. I know this is a preferred dish for many people, but when others are feasting on trifles and chocolate courses and even a fruit crumble, I become a very green-eyed vegan indeed. But of the quality of the starter and main, I can't complain too much (only that tiny bit). Service was pleasant, the restaurant is old pub chick, nothing to complain about. I later learned the chef, Antony Worrall Thompson, doesn't have the most gleaming of popular reputations. Since the whole family has experienced this restaurant and his great food, they completely eschew the media's ramblings (as they usually do). So don't let that put you off. Seriously, I was super impressed with my food!! 5 stars for caring about my diet, rising to the challenge and smashing it! *Look for the fencing straw pig! Cute!

I would only note that when busy it may be difficult to get the food out on time. (hence the one less star).... however... I am still salivating at the thought of their chips.... divine!

As we had a dog, we went in the pub side, where we nesteled in the corner. Attractive bar, and fire (which wasn't being used on a freezing cold sunday??), as well as nice seating arrangements. Perfect sunday food!! The menu gave a full selection of different English meals such as duck, steak etc etc. The staff were halpfu land friendly and the cook also gave our dog extra spuds as he was being so good!! From start to finish our group enjoyed excellent food and service. I started with the pigeon, which was great and moved on to the local deer, which blew me away. There is a smallish beer garden and a just adequate car-park next door. The staff are all very friendly and courteous and the land lord is a charm. The pub itself is cosy and warm and instigated a no smoking policy before it became law in the UK (you can read what you want into that) If you're driving past or walking Pack and Prime Lane and have a thirst, then pop in - you won't be offended. If you're thinking of taking the entire family out for a meal, then bring your plastic and some tissues.

A lovely old looking pub, which had a great old fashioned pub feel to it. We decided to have some drinks and then a small lunch. The beers were all by Brakespeare, and the usual run of the mill type lagers on offer. Nothing fancy. Food wise, we decided to just have soup, so we went for that, and we were very pleased. At £4.50 each, it was fairly cheap fare, but very tasty too. One of the nicest soups ive had!!. It came with 2 bread rolls. The menu also offered things like Steak and ale pie with mash, as well as burgers and rack of ribs. All reasonably priced around the 7-8 pound mark.
