The mother and baby classes are held in the shallow area of the pool. I would not recommend the Mother and Baby classes as I do not feel that the trainers are experiened enough. I had a toddler that was a little scared and did not want to go into the water. However. although the traineer was aware of this she thought it funny to pour a small watering can of water over her head from behind, so it was unexpected. She is now very afraid of the water thankss to this incident. The water is more on the colder side for babies and their sister pool as Cascades which is warmer. On a positive note the are many exercise classes and I can highly recommend the spinning classes.

There are clubs and lessons for figure skating and ice hockey too. Where our local pool has hourly sessions and a mad rush for changing rooms at either end, we like the come and go whenever at Riverside. We also like the diving boards, 1m and 3m springboards, 5m platform (not always open - check website for times); great fun but rare elsewhere. A junior membership card is great value: my son skates every week so it's cheaper than paying for public sessions and he gets to swim for free too. It even includes parking when using the centre; casual users get a parking refund when paying but the pass avoids the ticket machine hassle. I also appreciate that the vending machines are not overpriced. What's wrong with it? Some complain the swim changing rooms are a little tired; they're not the greatest but they're perfectly satisfactory and you get your £1 back from the reasonably sized lockers. The flume in the pool has been out of commission since 2010, this was something we all loved when it was open - fix this for the fifth star The skating sessions get crowded while Dancing on Ice is on TV.

A true treasure!…read more Don't be alarmed when you rock up to this leisure centre on a weekend morning and it looks like a que for a nightclub snaking outside. If that nightclub were a leisure centre, and those waiting were bleary eyed parents and wide-awake children and other small people strapped in prams. Just like that. It'll move (sort of) fast and mainly it's because the entrance isn't really built for the mass number of buggies being jammed through all at once. It's also because the people that work at the desk are at the best unhelpful and at the worst an impediment to general progress. But do not fret -- If you have a kid (like everyone else in Stokey) -- Clissold Leisure Centre is going to be a lifesaver. I even trek from "way down south N1" for my fix at Clissold 1-2x per week when I can make it. Why? *Clean, bright and newly refurbished. It's got updated facilities, lots of classes, smart equipment, a huge pool and viewing area, etc. It's ultra kid-friendly. It has a cafe! It has coffee! It has everything you might ever want. *Toddler World: huge soft play are they run in the Sports Hall several mornings per week. (extra charge of about 5 quid per kid) *Toddler Pool: self-explanatory. Warm, shallow, toys included. and really, most importantly... *THE CRECHE. Free childcare (members benefit) for your child, up to 2 hours while you get some non-toddler time in. I use it to hit a yoga class or just, ya know, workout and clear my brain after TODDLER WORLD/TODDLER POOL overload. Location is excellent, very near Clissold Park which is 5-stars in its own right. Transit options are a bit limited (sigh, Stoke Newington's only downside?) but I typically take the bus to Newington Green and walk 10 minutes. The only downside is the staff -- which is pretty basic and perfunctory at all of the Better Leisure Centres, but I deal with them more often at Clissold and it is usually painful. But if you've got your member card and aren't booking in for anything special (when you book the creche online you STILL have to wait in a que to get a printed receipt to show you've paid to take the creche - MEH, annoying), otherwise you can skip along and get to your workout. The top floor workout is pretty kid-free, so don't be too worried. I'm a month-to-month member with Better with access to all the clubs. My husband also has this so we get a slight discount and it comes to about £54/month each. If you ever need to sign up or change anything its a huge pain in the ass...so overall I'll give the bureaucracy and staff (and rude parents in the cafe) a low score here but everything else i've been really happy with. So, 4 stars!

If they bother to get back to you about any concern you might have about the facilities they will be completely inflexible and unhelpful. They know if you leave they have plenty of other users with little to no other choices. The recent refurbishment has been badly managed with a much smaller choice of equipment spread over 4 floors in 6 different spaces! Even at off-peak times there are queues for equipment because much of it does not even work. Complaints fall on deaf ears and management will not even entertain reducing fees due to the reduction in services. Their only suggestion they can offer is to cancel! They really do not care about the community or their members despite the headlines on their website.

The staff in the gym itself are wonderful, extremely helpful & considerate. There is a wide range of equipment available for cardio and strength training which is great. I have not used the swimming pools but the view you get from the gym is great, looks like a great place to swim. Won't be returning though due to the bad experience with staff as the first impression you get of a place is in the hands of the reception, even though not all staff at reception were bad the impact of a few can have a major impact. Have found another gym company & am greatly enjoying it there.

You really can go for it here without the overheating problems you get in some public pools where the temperature is just too high to be comfortable. The only problem really is that they have followed this concept through to the jacuzzi in the health suite, its barely warmer than the pool. Although I can't stand it when it's skin peelingly hot here it is just too cold, it needs to be hot enough to relax and sooth the tired muscles that have been worked in the gym or pool and this just doesn't do that. Other than that great, changing rooms are clean, if a little shabby in places. The staff seem reasonably pleasant and helpful and although I haven't used it the gym looks decent, it's on the first floor and looks out over the pool.

The floor of the pool can be raised or lowered depending on what event it is hosting - very clever. The gym is very modern with all the latest gear for you to use. It also has a number of indoor courts for volleyball, badminton, basketball, 5-aside football etc. The changing rooms are kept very clean with alternate wet and dry rooms for swimming and other activities. The facility is free for soldiers and their dependents and other discounts are also available. It has excellent opening hours to suit everyones needs. Due to 50m pools across the country being categorised as national assets, swimming can sometimes be disrupted by school swimming sessions, but this is a small price to pay for an otherwise fantastic facility.

It can get a little dangerous with all the flying bodies so young children shouldn't go into that part unaccompanied. The shallow waters are ideal for very small children and a poolside tea/coffee area is great for viewing all the fun from a distance. An excellent trip for the whole family.
