An Advanced Access appointment system is in operation at the surgery for all clinicians which aims to enable all patients to see a Health Professional within 24hrs. A number of appointments can be pre-booked up to two weeks in advance. All other appointments can be booked on the day. Additional Services include: * Cervical Screening * Contraceptive services * Vaccinations and Immunisations * Child Health Surveillance * Maternity services (excluding intra partum care which is an enhanced service) * The minor surgery procedures of curettage, cautery, cryocautery or warts and verrucae and other skin lesions Disabled Access is available at both surgeries to all patient areas. Both sites are equipped with Hearing Loop. Somethings are different. Parking at 67 Thornhill Road is restricted. Please do not wait in the entrance or exit drives and respect the coned areas. Going into the waiting room it is a little unnerving, feeling like you're going to be diagnosed by a slightly addled auntie with seven cats. But, having said that, the receptionist I spoke to today was lovely. You know you sometimes get those receptionists who look at you like you're wasting everybody's time, you aren't really ill? Well, she was the complete opposite - in fact, I'm fairly sure she called me lovely. What a nice way to start the day! I actually saw the nurse who led me down a little twisty path to her office (in what must have been an extension). She was efficient without being brisk. Her manner was very friendly and I felt at ease. Also, she gave me a prescription! That might make me sound a little bit like a junkie but I do find that some doctors will tend to dole them out willy-nilly while others keep their forms rather close to their chest. It's almost pot-luck as to whether you actually get one. However, I really felt as though I needed an inhaler, and now I've got one. She also booked an appointment for me to come in again in two weeks so that was all sorted. I must remember to ask her how her holiday went the next time I see her. She's going to New Jersey.

The place you really want to have a good experience is a doctor's surgery. I'm pretty well most of…read morethe time but I had the misfortune to be poorly for a month or so a couple of years ago. When I needed it, I had an appointment and I saw a kind and interested doctor who was "bang on the money" with the diagnosis. I had to have some investigations and staff bent over backward to accommodate. The practice nurse was reassuringly congenial, knowledgeable and helpful. I've very grateful. I love the NHS!

Coooooooooooooooooooooool, man. Roll forward a few centuries... and you get to just before the Second World War, when a Dr. Harold Coulthard established a surgery in his house in Heathwood Road. In 1948 Dr. Robert Griffiths joined him as a partner. In 1964, the partners moved across the street to 178 Heathwood Road. In 1987 the practice moved to the new purpose-built premises in St. Isan Road, and was extended there in 1998. Today it is still going strong. Surgeries operate from 9 - 11.30a.m. and 2 - 6p.m. Monday to Friday with the exception of Wednesday morning only. Same day appointments are available morning, afternoon and evening, with the exception of Wednesday morning only. These appointments are released to patients from 8.30a.m. on a daily basis. Patients will need to telephone the surgery to arrange to book a same day appointment.

Then this is the perfect medical centre for you. I much prefer attending this place than the hospital or a Dentistry. Because it is so much more cosy and homely rather than those places, which have cold green, blue and white as there wall paper decorations. I feel this way to all of these colours and there patterns because they make me feel cold and irritable because I often find that they are the signs of the colours that people use to decorate dull; painful, depressing and decorated places. However, this medical centre is wonderful; there are so many pretty and interesting sights to see right around and in front of you. For example; as soon as you enter the building there is a very large fish tank attracting your eyes. They certainly attract mine and young children. They also have a small children's play area and a sitting area down and up stairs. The people are really friendly and careful when they deal with you medical needs. I think they have a couple of locations where they have a medical centre based, but this one is now in Pontprennua. We had to go elsewhere before, in Cyncoed. It is free to attend and for everything else there. If you have previously booked an appointment either there or on the phone, then you just have to press some buttons on a computer that will talk back to you telling you who will see you and whether you have to sit up stairs or down stairs. A lot of them are so big these days that they have lost their human touch, and tend to see the patients as numbers on a list, rather than people with a medical condition, that need caring for. The practice is comprised of six doctors two of whom are female. They offer all of the usual services, but also provide a specialist student facilities also. These include: Sexual Health Services Pill checks Smoking Cessation Counselling, mental health and advice services Travel vaccines and advice Immunisations and vaccinations The surgery is not operating at full capacity at present, which is great if you have just started Uni, or have moved to the area for a different reason. New registrations are performed between 11.00am and 3.00pm.
