The receptionists are also really nice, and are usually able to answer my queries over the phone. This medical center is only around 10-15 years old, and feels very modern and hygienic. The waiting area is big and comfortable, with many magazines on offer, and plenty of toys to occupy children. The only thing that annoys me about this place is that you usually have to wait at least a week for a non emergency appointment (a nasty cough can often disappear in this time), however I believe this to be a universal problem rather than solely the fault of the Llandaff North medical centre.

This means that if you find a doctor you are comfortable with and open up honesty to, chances are that you will not see them for awhile. You have too explain everything again to a different doctor, even if you are not comfortable with that. Trying to get an appointment is awful, if you do mange to get an appointment chances are that the doctor has not shown up on time. Reorder of medication usually takes 48 hours unless they send the prescription for a signature to a doctor that is on holiday (this actually happened to me). In closing totally unorganised, unprofessional and completely bizarre. 2 stars as I am feeling generous.

My first one was booked two days in advance and it was fine. The next time I needed one I was told I needed to book a week in advance or a day - the option of two days had vanished in the space of a week. So I tried again today to get one a day in advance -only to be told to phone back tomorrow when presumably all the appointments will be taken. Do not bother with this terribly shambolic excuse for a doctors surgery. Nobody actually knows what the agreed booking timescale is.

It's rather a pleasant place, that feels almost like a private surgery. There's plenty of parking, a bus stop down the road and the pharmacy is in the same building which is extremely convenient. There are surprisingly few doctors considering the size of the place, but my friend never had to wait too long for an appointment. There are a few clinics, including an asthma clinic and diabetes clinic that not every doctors surgery has. As the medical centre is quite close to the Heath University Hospital, there are occasionally medical students sitting in, although you will be informed beforehand and given the option of requesting to see the doctor alone if you'd rather. This is a lovely surgery, and one of the most convenient being completely accessible for disabled patients, having great parking facilities and its own pharmacy. One of the best in the area.

I'm not the type of person to like going to the doctors very much. I guess it's being from America,…read moreit's entrenched within me to avoid the doctor whenever possible. However, when a mysterious swelling and itchiness started showing up on my legs and feet (no bug bites, didn't resemble an allergic reaction either) I decided to forgo my stubbornness and head over to a walk-in session: (Walk-Ins are available from 9 to 11 every morning, but I recommend getting in before 8:30 opening time to register your name early to avoid longer queues) I met with Dr Simon Braybrook so this review is primarily for him. 1 star off because I haven't had much experience with any other doctor to know if the experience I have is consistent throughout the practice (but will be happy to update my review if I find this to be the case). Dr Braybrook was VERY good + He walked me through all of his thought process so I understood what was going on instead of just blindly following instruction (that I just can't do! My nerves won't be able to handle it). ( ie: He thought the simplest solution would be that it's a possible bacterial infection such as cellulitis so prescribed me antibiotics but said that if it hasn't gotten any better or returns then he wants a blood test to test for auto-immune. It wasn't just a "ok here's some antibiotics off you go", I felt involved in my own diagnosis and treatment! ) + He answers all questions, no matter how silly they might sound. And he answers them fully - this is probably why during my first appointment with him, he was training medical students! He's really great at explaining the entire process. + He took me seriously. I have a family history of lupus so even though I don't experience any of the major symptoms, the fear or auto-immune is always at the back of my mind. I've heard about a lot of doctors who brush off these worries because of the slim likelihood but he definitely seemed to understand where I was coming from with my fears. --- They also have a conjoining pharmacy that handles all your prescriptions. Overall, I leave Butetown Medical Practice feeling very informed about my health and the thought of "going to the doctor" isn't such a bad thing after all. If you've just moved into the area and you're in need of a clinic, I highly recommend requesting Dr Braybrook - a great practitioner!
