Birch Bay Getaway is not running with integrity I reserved for 2 nights accommodation 3 weeks before with full payment. Called to confirm and made addition to include a dog with additional charges. Called to change to 1-night-stay 10 days before. Confirmed over the phone but revised email showed wrong rate. They did not response to my follow-up email and 2 days ago advised system error double booked and insisted they have the right to just cancel my reservation. I requested for compensation as there is no vacancy in Birch Bay. I had to change my plan last minute. The owner played the game that she was only an employee and her attitude was really bad. I can understand there could be technical error but I should not be the only one to suffer from the situation. Also, I suspected they are renting it to someone who is staying for more than 1 night as it is a Canadian long weekend. They refused to provide an explanation of why they chose to cancel my reservation. No even an apology. My family vacation is ruined. This business is not running with integrity and the reservation system is not reliable. read more

My husband and I were looking for a coastal getaway before journeying into Canada for the first time. We enjoyed the drive from Seattle to Birch Bay and were impressed with the views and local amenities. But we stayed at the Birch Bay Getaway and that fairly ruined it. The room we stayed in, called the Eagles Roost, looked nothing on the outside like the pictures on the website. We had problems with the TV (no cable as advertised), the stereo, the curtain tie back in the room that fell out of the wall, the heater that clattered. A motor powered generator woke us at 6AM. Cables sat where they laid, there was no attempt to tie them back or at least tuck them behind electronics. A cabinet in the kitchen bumps the bulb in the ceiling if you fully open it. It goes on and on, just little nuances of poor design and workmanship that detract from the 'getaway' you paid for. We're not offended by the tacky artwork of the nude woman sunbathing on a rock that sits behind the couch, but I can see how others might be. If I were to go back, I'd try renting one of the many homes across the road from the bay. read more

The photos were deceiving; the place is not ON the beach (there is a two-lane highway outside the front door, then beach parking on the other side), the kitchen is a disaster to cook in with trashed pots and pans, no cutting board, no amenities, not even a bowl to prep foods; a quarter cup of ancient coffee and two bags of sugar as the coffee service?! The place was not clean; there was a slick, waxy covering across the tiled floor, dead bugs on the window ledges, dust everywhere. I had to laugh each time I saw the sign outside that advertised "Luxury Beach Accomodations". I hope that others will not be duped by photos that must be 15+ years old. The place looks funky but charming in those pictures... but there are now crappy nudes / semi-clad women pics all over (ala 70's love pad). I don't mind a well-painted nude... but this was something out of a pain-by-numbers nightmare. The sofa's are exhausted and you sink down, nearly to the floor... the bed slopes down toward the headboard if you wanna snuggle, etc. etc. There was no DVD player either, which is so strange in the year 2012. We'd brought a couple of DVD's of Six Feet Under to watch... but had to make do with "Footloose" on cable... laughable, truly. The accomodations are run down, poorly cared for, dirty, and utterly disappointing. I feel completely ripped off at having to pay even half of the room rate charged. The other review here is for the same room... and I sure wish I had thought to check with Yelp before heading out of town. Where to start? Carpet was so dirty it was sticky. Found dirty dishes in the cabinets. Found hair under the pillows - did they wash the sheets? There was old, rotten food left in the fridge. Found ants in the shower. The coin-op washer ($3.50 a load) did not have hot water. Overall, the place was pretty cheap and dirty feeling. Definitely not the "luxury" place they claim it to be. "Granite countertops" (aka granite tile) do not make a place "luxury". Start by taking the time to make it clean and sanitary. At one point, someone seems to have cared about the place, with all the sculptures, murals, and decorations, but again, it doesn't matter unless it's maintained and clean. This was literally the worst vacation experience we have EVER had!! The room post on AirBnB was downright fraudulent and the owner/manager was quite literally the most UNPROFESSIONAL, UNREASONABLE, AND INSULTING person I've ever encountered in the service industry (I worked in the hotel industry for about 3 years). Here's what happened: - We arrived and he spent an hour checking us into our room while we waited for him to leave so we could put our baby to sleep. - He made us hastily sign an additional form (not a part of AirBnB) saying that there was nothing wrong with the room. We were so ready for him to leave and confused by the additional paperwork that we signed it just to get him out of there. - That evening, we began to notice things such as: 1) there were no blinds or the blinds were broken 2) the drapes hung down over the heaters (a huge fire hazard) 3) there was no other bathroom 4) there were now ants 5) the room did not appear to have been cleaned 6) the counters had a bubble underneath the surface and were not the promised marble 7) the bedroom fan made an annoying buzzing sound 8) there was no massage chair (as listed) 9) it was listed as a whole townhouse, but had a shared entrance and common area with other guests down the hall - My wife texted him the next day and politely asked if we could get a refund for the next night - He sent back a rude and completely unprofessional text saying that he was "TRULY DISGUSTED (among other things) and emphasized that we would not receive a refund. - I confronted him about the text and he refused to apologize. At one point drew comparisons between us and a white supremacist he had to deal with once (customer service at its finest). - We decided to not stay the next night and leave immediately. Bottom line: DO NOT STAY HERE UNLESS YOU ARE 100% DESPERATE!! read more

Phenomenal view of the bay. But when you spend over $150 on a night's stay, a dirty stained carpet and a condo that smells like dog is unacceptable. IF I COULD LEAVE NO STARS, I WOULD! The place is dirty with cob webs all over the room. Not only is the staff inappropriate, Jake was rude, when I called to state how disappointed I was with the condition of the room, I was told I would receive a return call, to work things out, that was at 8:30 it is 11pm and no call... I was never called back, my husband called Jake "the snake" and we never received a return call. So we are stuck staying at this awful place. They would not refund my money, nor would they move me to a different room. Never in a million yrs. would I ever stay here again nor would I recommend this place. This morning when I opened the bathroom window I realized there was black mold around the bath room window. However I am not surprised... The kitchen is ok, however the dishes had to be washed before using, the drawers had dirt and dried up food in them and the cooking pans had dried burnt food in them. The sheets were dirty with hair and dirt on them as if they were not changed. And as for internet... yeah NOT, that also is a lie, didn't work at all. VACATIONER BEWARE!!! So, the manager Jake, replied to one review stating I was inflexible and then calls me a liar here??? We were there, we were never offered free rooms, we were never allowed to speak to anyone in person except the house keeper. We were left outside, in the rain, while we waited for her. We were offered a different room, with none of the amenities we had paid for. I want to give this place 5 stars because they were quick to fix a problem that needed fixed. BUT the place way filthy the room, the grounds everything. The cabins are quant, I would be interested in going back in the summer, but I would bring cleaning supplies and my own bedding! The bedding smelled! It is such a cool spot and the property is awesome! The view from our room was beautiful and the rooms were completely stocked price was right for the off season! I've stayed at Birch Bay Getaway many times over the years and it has always been amazing. I've come with groups of friends several times, with several family members and this last time with my immediate family. The owner or manager is very accommodating, heartfelt and kind. On more than one occasion he has worked around my schedule and my desire to have particular cabins or ocean views. He is flexible and very generous -- often has flowers in the rooms and provides us with any extra things we need. There are wonderful fireplaces in the units and lots of wood. The last day we stayed overlooking the ocean and it was spectacular! The beds are brand new, the furniture is unique and interesting and everything was just right. My partner and I always have a blast when we stay at Birch Bay Get a Way, For starters just being there supports small business and the community, a feeling of pride you don't feel with all the monopoly chains that are sooo expensive. The Owner; Jake remembered us and upgraded to a 3 bedroom when we mentioned our Grandson and his Fiancé' were joining us. Has that ever happened to anyone? The 3 bedroom was great a cabin palace and everyone enjoyed them selves so much. Full kitchen and dining area was a nice family touch and the creative art and walkways add allot to the experience. The low rates allow more money for recreation so we rented tandem kayaks and all 4 of us in Semiyahoo (5 minutes North) and then race cars and Pizza ( at a café) back in Birch Bay. The hotel is right next store to the water slide park and a grocery store. Anyway good times for all! The three bedroom had a ponderosa big front porch (all the other cabins do too). They thought of everything and there is even a laundry. Right on the beach with warm shallow water for a long water walk or swim. Plan a trip today, you can't go wrong and the kids will remember good times forever. read more

Once we realized this place was in the shape it is, we had to book a room at another hotel, no way we were going to stay here! The pics they display on their website are deceptive and probably taken over 15 to 20 years ago. You couldn't pay me to stay here............EVER! The room was found dirty with multiple issues. 1. Open holes in the wall behind the pedestal sink in the restroom 2. Exposed water heater in room- seems unsafe and very unusual to be visual in a suite 3. The ottoman is filthy 4. Large spider on wall 5. Gun in drawer- not sure if its fake or real- I find this to be inappropriate to be in a suite 6. The recliner chair is filthy 7. There were several gnats flying around in the room 8. There are several holes in the walls that were poorly patched 9. Facility seems to be unsafe to stay overnight. 10. Overall the room was dirty, had a very bad smell that was attempted to be covered up by deodorizer. 11. Place has abandoned cars in the parking lot and junk laying around Also if you read the response from the management on another reviewing website, they are total liars and very unprofessional. Class operation. I have know the owner of this property for over 20 years. He really tries his best to make each customer feel special. There are a variety of 1,2 & 3 bedroom units. The cottages are stand alone individual houses plus 3 units with a great ocean view. Lots of Krazy art. - I recommend the Birch Bay Getaway as often as possible. read more

Came here on a whim in the off-season the weekend prior to Thanksgiving, as a last-minute meet-up with some friends. They have 2 kids and so we needed some place where we could spread out on a budget. This place was perfect for our needs and at a great off-season discounted rate. Our kitchen was fully stocked with what we needed for pots, pans and dishes, although as noted by another there was no coffee. We came equipped as we are the camping type, so just make a note of that as you plan your trip. Decor is strange, but we had no nude photos to offend or discuss. Everything was clean, bedrooms were tiny but they had notified us if this in advance. 4 instead if 5 stars because the futon was less than comfy, and the customer service was average (but definitely sufficient!). read more

Dirty, Old and Disgusting We booked these accommodations for the weekend for a little family holiday and stayed in the Brandt cottage. We were greatly disappointed with the condition of these accommodations. We ended up checking out after one night due to the unsanitary and unsafe condition of these accommodations but were charged for both nights. The establishment refused to refund us the money. The accommodations are dirty, there is a bad odour, outlets handing out of walls, there is black mould in windows, cold water within one minute of taking a shower, broken blinds, old dirty and ripped furniture, toilet plugged after each use, spiders on bedding, faucet in kitchen broken just to list a few. We booked one night as we worked our way up the West Coast, and were stuck when we got there. Thank god we only booked one night! You should never stay here. I wish I could give it zero stars. Our room's lock was easily opened without the keys they gave us (which did not work in the lock!) making it completely unsafe- anyone could enter our room. We did not stay the night because of this and the condition of our room. The manager promised us he would issue a refund the next morning but we have never gotten it. Each time I call there are excuses. On another travel website the manager responds to negative reviews with insults/swear words and is extremely unprofessional. The suite we were supposed to stay in is disgusting- stains on the carpet, old couch, massage chair that is extremely dirty, and it was not as pictured on the website. For example-it shows a dining room table and chairs that aren't really in the room. I think someone lives in the suite when it is not booked- it smells of cigarettes and all around dirtiness. Relieved and delighted to find a cute cottage with comfy beds (and I am so picky about beds) and everything we needed. A home away from home. And right across the road from the glorious beach. Had an excellent stay. Ran into a bind and had an issue with the reservation after several hours of driving. The staff was quick to accommodate and provided a beautiful cottage at a healthy discount. I am disappointed by some of the comments on this location. This is an eccentric and charming establishment when you give it a chance. This place has BEDBUGS. I would never recommend this place to anyone. We booked a cabin while there for a job and the first night my boyfriend woke up with a bite and the next night he woke up several bites. We contacted the manager and they put us in a hotel for the night and still wanted to charge us for that nights stay. He said that he would have a professional spray the cabin but it was just a couple of his workers. The next day he called to say that it was safe to return to the cabin and stated "There is no reason to look for bedbugs". Sketchy. We went ahead and stayed another week and still woke up with bites and even welps. Thankfully the job was over and we were going home at that point. When we was leaving to go back home he wanted to charge us for another weeks rent which we would not be using. He told me that if I had everything out by noon then he would have no reason to charge and when I called and told him Id have everything out he said that he never said that and also didn't believe that we was going home and didn't understand why we wouldn't want to pay for an extra weeks rent. He also stated that he's never had a bedbug problem in 14 years yet there is several reviews about bedbugs. Do yourself a favor and look for somewhere else to stay. The cabin smelled like a musty flea market and the furniture smelled even worse and they were dirty along with dirty dishes in the cabinets and drawers. I greatly appreciate the customer service the owner showed. We booked an anniversary stay with him, and when we showed up, the 'honeymoon' suite overlooking the bay had been unable to be utilized for our stay as purchased so the owner apologized, put the money back on the credit card and paid for a dinner out on the town for us. He had offered putting us up at another hotel in the area due to the difficulties, but we took his offer of another cabin and the dinner and greatly enjoyed the fact that we did. The place is a little kitchy, but the owner has been fixing it up as he can. A bit of backstory that I found out: essentially our problem was caused because a former employee who the owner caught stealing and then fired had been renting out the honeymoon suite in between homes had refused to leave and was now having to be legally evicted since he didn't leave by the agreed upon date which would have given the owner time to have the room cleaned. Another employee that he hired that he hoped would improve matters actually made them worse because that employee started skimming from the business and had to be fired. The owner is trying to fix everything and be a good employer, it is just very difficult because his employees aren't making it easy for him to stay in business. Hopefully everything gets fixed soon because we loved our stay and it was fantastic what he did for us. read more

EAGLES ROOST - My wife and I were looking forward to a couple nights of luxury at Birch Bay; we were extremely disappointed. We found the place to be a pig pen, everything was dirty! There was ancient leather furniture, soiled rugs and floors. There is a huge open hearth fireplace that was very un-kept in appearance; the whole room smelled like a bonfire. We lit the fireplace one evening and found out why, the room was quickly filled with smoke! Yes, we checked to make sure the flue was open, and it was. Perhaps the Eagle is roosting in the chimney!? The hot tub in the bedroom had dried on soap scum (?) and we had to scrub it with Comet prior to bathing. Forget about the ceiling fans on hot nights, we had to shut them off as they were rattling and swinging back and forth. We thought they were going to fall on us as we slept! The bedroom was very hot; we could not open the window since there was no screen on the windows. We had to shut the windows prior to bedding down for fear the Mosquitos would get us. If you want to enjoy the view, you need to step out on the porch, since the windows were very dirty. All in all, the place was a disaster! We will never be staying at this dump again. Save your money; find a motel on Aurora Avenue in Seattle; it will surely be cleaner (and cheaper)! read more
