Prior to moving my brother (a stoke victim with memory loss) into The Lodge, I specifically asked…read moreabout the activities and dining arrangements. I was concerned to learn that Memory Care Patients could not interact with other residents and had to be separated. I told them that my fear was that many memory care residents are non-verbal and that I did not want him to be "stuck" in a place with only non-verbal residents. They assured me that there are many active, verbal residents on the memory care side. This has NOT been the case. In less than a month, I am seeing a rapid decline in my brother's mental health. He is depressed and lonely. I am angry that I was lied to. He sits in his room alone most of the day and the activity calendar posted on their website is for the assisted living residents only; not the memory care residents. At mealtime he has no one to talk to because no one is verbal. He has also mentioned to me how uncomfortable he is when the staff yells at the residents to stay in their seats at the tables. I have gotten the runaround trying to get answers from the administrators and have decided that I need to move him out of The Lodge as soon as possible before he declines even more. I do not recommend this facility at all. I was deceived by the sales representative and now they are making it difficult to settle his expenses as I move him out.

I am, however, a customer in the sense that I am part of the extended network of their resident customers. Greeley Place is part of Holiday Retirement, which has over three communities across the United States and Canada. The website for their Greeley location reads in part, "Residents and their families take great comfort knowing that a few of our residents are also Community Managers, available to assist their neighbors in any way needed, 24 hours a day. They ... go out of their way..." Imagine our surprise, then, when we brought a gift for one of the residents who was our friend's mother. The person at the desk said, very brusquely, "You'll have to take it. We don't deliver!" When we asked for the room number, the person snapped back, "I can't give you that! You aren't relatives." Of course, we found an alternative way, a more creative way, to get the gift to our friend's mother. Some day I will be old. Some day someone might ask me if I know a good residence for retirees. I will pull out my little book, go past the crossed out name of Greeley Place, and recommend another residence for their consideration. It is important, to me at least, that front desk staff is always courteous, helpful "in any way needed", and able to deliver a small package to room-bound residents.
