We are lied to on a consistent basis by leadership and denied the normal legal comforts. I also checked out their website's Careers page because I want to be sure my dad is supported by caregivers who are paid well and offered good benefits, as research shows those who are treated well by employers give better care to residents. But even though the page listed job openings, no pay ranges or benefits were listed, so I asked Jennifer to provide this info and explained why I requested it. Jennifer responded, "I would like to have time to talk with you in detail. Usually these questions are asked by competitors cold calling so I hope I am not coming across skeptical. ... I definitely would like to provide you with the information to make the best decision for your dad. A virtual tour is also something available if you cannot do one in person." This response was not only weird and off-putting, but also objectively problematic: 1. Colorado legally requires employers to publicly post pay ranges with job listings so workers don't have to waste time applying and interviewing for jobs with unfair wages. 2. Jennifer prioritized her fear of giving super basic info to competitors over giving transparent info to someone going through the traumatic process of watching her dad basically deteriorate. 3. Jennifer implied she would essentially hold info hostage unless I went on a tour with her. 4. If she was THAT worried, she could've easily found me on LinkedIn to see if I was a competitor. I sent a firm but cordial response pointing out that Grace Pointe is not legally compliant and the lack of transparency for both prospective clients and employees is unfair. I forwarded the email chain to the owner and executive director, clearly requesting a response/clarification from all three parties. Strangely, I didn't receive a reply, even though Jennifer had replied to all previous emails promptly. However, their Careers page was almost instantaneously updated, with all job listings removed and replaced by generic messages about how Grace Pointe loves its employees. As a former board member of a senior care nonprofit and volunteer of 3 different senior care organizations, these events have by far been the most concerning I've ever witnessed -- especially from a healthcare organization whose primary responsibility is ensuring seniors receive good care.

In this review I'd like to cover 3 things:…read more Where Dad was when he entered Lemay Where he is now Why you may not want believe me The Past Dad was admitted to McKee hospital in Loveland on the last day of June this year with a diagnosis of aspiration pneumonia and a very angry gallbladder that needed removing. Three weeks later he was ready for discharge but he could not stand without a lift, attend to his own toilet or other needs nor move without significant assistance. He was sleeping almost continuously, and as we were to soon find out, was deeply depressed and was considering taking his own life, just short of his 89th birthday. He just didn't see a way through. Given his condition, his inability to care for himself and the fact that Mom is also in her upper 80s, Kaiser authorized 3 weeks at a skilled nursing facility, which was later extended. Lemay was on the list of approved facilities and had a bed, but more on that process later. The Present This past weekend, here in mid October, Mom, Dad, my sister Sharon and myself headed up to my parent's cabin in the mountains to enjoy the last of the season and I'm happy to report Dad is doing great. He still needs a walker to get around and we have caregivers coming in a few hours a day but Dad is getting his independence back, and is bright and hopeful for the future. On Saturday we were sitting around talking and Dad volunteered that he "100% credited Lemay" for his recovery. The hospital saved his life, he said, but Lemay, and particularly the PT team, (looking at you Anne), brought him back from the brink. Why You May Not Want to Believe Me This is, by all accounts, a great success story, so why shouldn't you believe me? After all, I've done my best to give as honest an account as I can and Dad is proof of it. Because my sister, "Lorraine G" (see below), gives a very different account and to this day asserts that Lemay is a terrible place full of terrible people. So who do you believe? Maybe neither of us. Sites like this are very useful, but have their limits. Maybe the reviewer is having a bad day. Maybe the reviewer happened across an outlier day one way or the other. Maybe the reviewer has a preconceived notion that all facilities like this are places where families put old folks to die. This is why Mom made her decision to place Dad in Lemay not on a Yelp or Google review but on ratings at Medicare.gov which provides verified information about inspections, staffing, substantiated complaints and investigations from the agency that regulates them. Lemay enjoys 5 out of 5 stars there. So by all means, read the reviews here, including Lorraine's, but I'd recommend taking anything here for what it is: an anecdotal account from a source that you have no way of verifying. This ain't a taco you're buying, after all.

My Dad died at this facility. He had open heart surgery two weeks earlier in Denver and had…read morerecently been released from ICU. After a few days, he was discharged from the hospital and moved to the Suites Fort Collins for rehab. It is likely that he was discharged too earlier, but I don't think this was the right kind of facility for someone with heart disease like my Dad. Firstly, he needed to be monitored at all times and a lot of the time he was left unattended, like he was just on vacation. There is no permanent doctor at this facility, but my Dad was still in a very weakened state. The physical therapists and occupational therapist pushed him too hard and weren't listening to what he was saying. They were most concerned with the incision where the surgery took place, but didn't have much experience with a more complex elderly person with serious cardiological issues. On Friday, he was very frustrated that his concerns were being ignored and he complained that his condition had worsened since he left the hospital, where he had been making progress. He was already able to walk with a walker and assistance. The following day, we went to see him. When we arrived the staff was running around frantically. We approached my Dad's room and he was lying on the floor. Apparently, the staff had just discovered him. We heard them say, "Call 911," and they were trying to revive him, but it was too late. We don't even know how long he was there before they found him. Someone in my Dad's state needed to be monitored at all times. I blame the hospital partly for releasing him to soon and to the wrong type of facility, but the staff at The Suites, Fort Collins was simply too negligent and inexperienced.

The rooms were supposed to be controlled by your own thermostat, but they didn't work. One man kept yelling from his room "I'm Freezing." Food was served frozen and cold more often than not. All meals were served to her in her room. I never once saw anybody using the dining room. They were supposed to be given the choice, NOT! The floor was to have snacks if she needed them but was never able to have anybody bring her anything as she was not to walk without assistance. If she needed something they always said, "I'll be right back to never return." The screens on the TV were blue. We were told that they were working with LG to get it fixed but she was there two weeks and nothing changed. How long had they been blue? She wasn't able to watch TV as it induced a headache. Housekeeping services were sparce. I could go on and on. The only thing that worked for her was her physical therapy. Nice people and they got her going so we could get her out of there!
