Sue, a friend of mine set up the mangrove tunnels kayak tour for three of us. We put in the water on Lido Key. This was my first time, and kayaking turned out to be much easier than I thought; very little effort goes a long way. Our guide, Kris Fehlburg, was amazing. Kris was in tune with everyone in our small group (6), and made sure she answered every question and that each person was comfortable, got personal attention, and our needs were met. Chris seemed to know everything about the mangrove tunnels as well as the inter-coastal waterway, even the history of how everything came to be there. She pointed out numerous birds, fish, plant life, and even a barge that had been sunk in the first half of the 1900s (I don't remember exact date) that now serves as a resting place/hangout for some cool birds. It seems a goal for every group is always to find and observe a manatee. Many tours stay out for the 3 1/2 hour trip without ever spotting one. Kris found a group of three manatees and we got to observe them for a good 15 minutes. The tour was way better than anything I had imagined. Thank you Kris for a fascinating and educational tour! I am now a fan of kayaking and looking forward to our next tour. read more
