I would understand if it was something like a community drive hosted in honor of a particular patient, & these generally take place in venues like churches. However, it isn't as if donors are present by the dozen in the donation center in Worcester, and they reject those without an appointment. Fine. Just don't make an impassioned plea to je that supplies are running low & nobody will come in to donate. Seems to me Governor Baker spent months giving the middle finger to small businesses in particular. Now some are content to give it to themselves through very restrictive terms of business.

I had never donated platelets before (only whole blood) and toward the end started feeling really woozy and nauseous. The staff were so quick, responsive, and sweet about helping me feel better. They were also very attentive throughout the whole process, making sure I was doing okay and getting me blankets when I got cold, and making sure I stayed for a little while after so that it would be safe for me to drive home. They also have Netflix set up on individual TVs (with headphones) for people who are donating platelets, which was great since the process takes a while. Literally every employee I encountered was so friendly and kind. Even though the donation itself felt kind of crappy in my case, I will be happy to go back and do it again knowing I am in such great hands!

I had never donated blood before. Just never really thought of it. But I learned about the many…read morebenefits of donation for the donor and decided to give blood. One problem, I have a blood issue that makes many of the *donate to other people* places unwilling to allow me to donate. So I googled and found this place. My blood will not go to other human beings. The pros are that they give you a lot of free medical tests. You have an evaluation (for which they pay you) and get a lot of things tested. But even on the day of donation they test your blood for iron and take blood pressure etc. They pay you in cash on the day you donate. I also feel pretty safe in their hands as they seem to take blood well and are pretty expert at it. Cons for me is that I do think the rate they pay for the blood needs to go up and it is not in a great location I think to easily get people there. I live about an hour away by car. I would recommend it.

For another, the RI Blood Center seems to be affiliated with CT now, and they have stepped up the donor recognition since the merger. All Season donors (those of us who give once a season) can register for an annual gift. While I appreciate the recognition (and the way to casually advertise blood donation in the wind), I give regularly because it's the easiest possible way to save up to 3 lives with each donation. It's the best way I know to give back. Try it!

The receptionist is friendly and efficient, and the waiting area is comfortable with cushioned chairs and a tv. There are usually snacks and water bottles on the check in counter. All of the staff I've encountered here have been friendly, polite, and very competent. I always make an appointment and have never had to wait all that long after my scheduled time. The donation area is also clean and comfortable, and I've never felt more than a needle prick of pain while donating here, the staff are just awesome at what they do. They take great care to make sure you are comfortable and feeling ok throughout the donation process. The rest area for after you finish donating is really nice as well, and it's stocked with cold drinks, an awesome coffee & hot cocoa machine, and packaged sweet and salty snacks. I always go for the Lorna Doones. Definitely recommend this location - It's my favorite place to give blood and platelets in RI.
