Unfortunately, this was a rough coloring session that I sorely regretted but couldn't do anything but wait a couple of months to recover from. I asked for a touch-up of ash grey blonde balayage and correction of some brassy sections I had done over the summer. I got nowhere near what I was expecting. Tina did a (kind of painful) bleach and tone all over that came out looking even more yellow and an unattractive flat color. She tried to tell me that we had time constraints and I should come back for another lift, but I sadly don't think she can achieve dimensional - or decently healthy/safe - coloring. She was very kind and gave me a decent cut, but I strongly recommend going elsewhere for coloring. read more

Bing has never cut my hair. However, she cuts the hair of nearly everyone in my family - mother in law, father in law, brother in law, nephew, husband - so I feel qualified to review her excellent services. Most recently she gave my daughter her first haircut. I had to work so my husband took her and when she returned I was glad to see that Bing followed my instructions exactly. (Which is to say that she only took off a few inches of her long hair and it looks clean at the ends and not much different than when she left the house which is precisely what I wanted.) She worked at another salon back in the day, and we would always request Bing as our stylist. When she opened her own salon, we were thrilled! I've been going to Bing for 7+ years, since when she was at Supercuts on College Ave. And if she wasn't great at cutting my hair I would have dropped her years ago. She is never nice, never really focuses on making the customer comfortable and today was the last straw. I booked a 4:15 appointment and showed up at 4:18 and she said "sorry, you're late, I have a color appointment at 4:30". Rotten customer service, she's the one who gave me that time. So choose Bing if you don't care about your hairdresser being nice. Choose Bing if you want only coloring. But there have to be nicer and better places along College in Rockridge. read more

If I get my haircut from anyone else, I get that feeling one gets when they cheat on their spouse. I can't vouch for the ladies though, looks like some negative reviews from them. Bing has been cutting my hair for as long as I can remember and I wouldn't go anywhere else. Fast, friendly, precise...and all at a very reasonable price. Making sense of my coarse, poofy, uncooperative hair is no walk in the park, but Bing has it all under control. She's usually booked solid on weekends so call ahead of time to get an appointment. Just don't call when I need to see her! Parking isn't that bad either despite being in Rockridge. I can usually find a non-metered spot across College from her shop in the neighborhood. read more

I know that everyone is giving her five stars, but for me, I didn't have a good experience with her. I wanted an A-line bob and had medium-length hair. The front of the bob she got right, but somehow, ended up missing the back. What also bugged me was that she knew how much hair was going to sneak under the cover, yet she didn't insist of my using a robe, so I left with tons of hair down my shirt. Always a procrastinator, I'd waited to schedule a cut until my bangs were in my eyes again. My awesome regular hair fellow is out of town, and I needed a quick summer fix. Based on Yelp reviews, I called Bing's. They told me I could come in right away, which I did--they're very conveniently located in Rockridge. Miriam greeted me when I got there. She listened carefully and asked questions during the pre-cut consultation and also checked in frequently during the cut. Before Bing, I didn't understand the difference a good haircut can make. Before special occasions, everyone would go for a haircut except for me. I always thought I looked worse after a haircut. And I was sort of right. I did look worse after getting my hair cut. Because I was getting the wrong cut. You know that George Zimmer commercial for Men's Warehouse? When Bing cut my hair, I liked the way I looked. I couldn't believe how much better I looked. And apparently, neither could my friends, family, and co-workers. I've never gotten compliments on my hair before but after Bing cut it, I was getting 2-3 a day for a week. The only bad thing is that haircuts are like that new car smell. They don't last. Bing is really nice and she does a great job. I went in for a cut a couple weeks ago (I have long, curly hair) and she handled it with great care. She was also very sensitive about not taking off too much length (I told her about my last cut, which I reviewed under Grand Hairport). Again, my search for the perfect hair salon has once more failed me. Maybe i should curse the wicked name of yelp.com for leading me astray...i don't know anymore. I went in without high expectations, outside of just hoping that the cut would come out nice. When i made the appointment i even asked to have it with the owner of the salon in hopes that they would be more about customer service and satisfaction. Not true. After ignoring me in the lobby for close to five minutes, the stylist seemed annoyed to cut my hair even when we did have random, slightly akward chats here and there. It was the fact that i asked for a trim and more length was taken off than i would have liked and the nice layers that i once had now looked like choppy, feathery '80s hair band hair and now that it's so short i have to wait for it to grow out before i can have skilled hands try to fix the damn thing. I asked for a precision cut bang, which was crooked BY FAR and had to ask her to go over it two more times before i just decided to fix it myself when i got home. When she blew out my hair she whipped me with my own wet hair repeatedly in the face, it was the first time i had to hold my hand up to try to prevent the whipping from slapping my retinas and she didn't even soften it up after i did that, plus she flatironed my hair without any product, a practice that i don't even do at home. Yes, i tipped the girl, times are tough. But after leaving my appointment i took a walk in the area and found it saturated with a lot of nicer salons that charge about the same that i'd rather try next time. read more

Bing's great. Friendly and reliable. You get what you pay for. Nothing super fancy, but not something that just anyone could do at home. I've also gone to Bing for some up-do's and they are great. Though I wanted a different up-do the second time, it turned out about the same as the first, so that was a bit of a disappointment.
