City Hall Grand Hotel - Top flight vending machines area is awesome

City Hall Grand Hotel

Such a FUNKY hotel!…read more This was a lucky find. We prefer unique and interesting places to stay, and City Hall Grand did not disappoint. Highly recommended. It's a 100+ year old municipal building, obviously not intended for lodging, yet the owners made it work. It's a bit of a time capsule with updated decor and amenities. We walked around every floor, soaking up the architecture and millwork of a bygone era. The entire place felt clean and safe. We stayed in the Mail Room (I've been told you start there, and work your way up). As described, it's spacious and bright, with a huge bathroom. However, the sunset mentioned in the brochure was obscured by the building next door, because June. The mattress and pillows were very comfortable, the room was immaculate, the fridge and microwave were handy, the digital thermostat worked as expected. We didn't use the elevator, or try the restaurant. Wi-Fi was a little sketchy in the room, but stone/concrete walls make it challenging. We lounged on a sofa in one of the common areas to play Wordle in the morning. Yes, there is no front desk. That doesn't bother us, since we've stayed in many self-serve hotels. We never had to call anyone, but texts were promptly answered. Yes, some of the rooms don't have windows, and that detail is clearly spelled out in each room description. It takes a special kind of asshat to write a negative review on a place they've never even been to, or complain about the sun rising in the morning, or century old windows not being soundproof. Seasoned travelers bring earplugs and eye masks, just in case. The location is very convenient, within walking distance of almost everything, and quiet at night. Parking was plentiful and free. Life is short, don't waste it staying in generic little boxes.

We stayed in the Artist room for a night and it was awesome. Exploring that building, enjoying the restaurant in the building and checking out the architecture in the area, all of it wonderful. The bed was comfortable and communication with the establishment was easy and clear.

Lots of doors ... between living room, bathroom sink, shower/commode, & bedroom. Two closets. Bedroom has large bureau. Large TVs in living room & bedroom. My favorite part of the room is the ledge by the door for hotel, keys, etc. The parking garage is next door. When checking in, I received a parking ticket that opens the exit gate. Worked great. Unfortunately, most restaurants, since the pandemic, are closed on Mondays. The front desk identified the local open restaurants for me. Looking forward to my next stay at this location.

This hotel is under renovation…read more The lobby has wire hanging from the ceiling as they are refurbishing the original ceilings so nothing is perfect at this time .... The staff was very engaging and our room, while dated, was very clean and comfortable. The location is excellent for walking to many great nearby locations. I would definitely stay here again

The room had a queen bed in it with a chair, desk, refrigerator, and TV stand. The bathroom was so small, there is no counter space, just a sink. The shower had mold in it and it looked like caulking was put over it to try and hide it. The shower curtain was too short and when you showered water went all over the floor. The towels were two small towels and I went and asked for more and they gave me one. I had to go back two more times to get towels. We had to take cold showers two days in a row. When I asked if the room would be service, the concierge told me that they only serviced the room every three days. The door stuck so it was difficult to open and close and the walls were so thin we heard everyone's conversation. At around 2am I was woken up to a couple outside our window fighting and then at 4am there were people in the hallway talking loudly and right outside our door. The have a free breakfast with your stay and the food was cold even though it was in the warmers. It was not a good experience, there is a sign in the lobby that says we are making million dollar restorations. That's great but do it before you allow people to stay there.
