The New Testament was an inexpensive one with cardboard covers. My mother had written notes in it though, so it felt very special. I arranged with David Weinstein to replace the cover with a synthetic material but he found a small piece of beautiful leather and used that at no extra charge. The Missal was re-covered with goat skin. Both volumes were embossed in gold script on the covers. They look and feel amazing - like new books with a whole new life. It was so nice to hang out for a bit with David in his peaceful shop. I would definitely come back to see him for any other book binding needs. He's a real artist.

It was starting to be a complete mess to take it anywhere, the cover was fallen off and the back was off (yep nothing holding it together) Naturally, I wanted to do something amazing for her for her birthday and her Bible was calling my name! I googled "where to have books rebound" and A-1 was the first thing I saw! I took the Bible on Wednesday Jan 10 and they were like "omg-wow this Bible is all messed up" I asked them if they could get it rebound by Jan 18 (my moms bday) and they were certain it was not possible! Monday January 15- They had it completed! It looked phenomenal, the outside--spanking brand new--but the inside filled with all of my moms notes and highlight from the past 20 years! It looked absolutely amazing & the fact that they really knew it meant a lot for me to get it to my mom by her birthday was extremely kind. Y'all that Bible was a complete disaster... they must've worked on it 3 days straight! My mom kept harassing me and was nearly crying for the whole week that she lost her Bible. I ended up having to give it to her before her birthday on Tuesday the 16th because she was going bazooka! She was amazed and in awe of the finished product! Thank you A-1! Seeing the joy on my moms face for this was sooooo Priceless!

Mr. Zavala is a master craftsmen. I couldn't be more pleased with his work. I wish I had discovered…read morehim decades ago, AND that there were more people like him in the world. In the past, I've sent away for rebinding, and it's incredibly inconvenient and time consuming. Zavalas does absolutely outstanding work. What's more, I was surprised by both the fast turnaround and the low cost. I already have another rebinding project I'm eager to take to him in a few months. The first one, which I just got back, was coming apart because of the poor glue job done at the factory. I was more than happy to pay to have it rebound with high-quality stitching, and receive it back practically brand new. I see that a recent customer complained about "up-charging," and only wanted a crummy reglue. Hilarious. He or she should've been happy that Zavalas wanted to do the job correctly. This isn't a place that's simply going to glue together poorly constructed Bibles and books. They're going to rebind them to last forever. Not only all of that, but both times I went into the shop, Mr. Zavala stopped what he was doing, and sat down with me in his office to explain the process, and this for a repair job that was only going to cost me forty dollars. I was deeply impressed that he would take the time to do that. (He happened to be in the middle of rebinding a Bible that was over a hundred and thirty years old, which I'm sure is no inexpensive repair.) That he'd sit down with me, a new customer, and take the time to talk to me... this is the epitome of high-quality customer service. I will go to this company with all of my rebinding needs from now on.
