I took it to Sharp Transmissions because of the reviews and its a transmission shop. I work on my truck as much as I possibly can but dealing with repairing a transmission is out of my wheel house. I dropped off the truck in the morning and I got a call about 2 hours later. Milt told itme he had inspected the car test drove and it was not the tranny it was the power steering pump that had a small not noticeable leak but the fluid resevoir was almost dry and that was the noise I was hearing coming from the truck. He added power sterring fluid and solved the problem but let me know it something that will need attention down the road. I thanked him I picked up my truck later that evening. Drove the truck home ran like a charm. I will certainly take it to him again when I need work done. I appreciated his honesty he could have told me I needed a new transmission instead I got a honest and fair evaluation and fix. Thanks Milt glad to see that there are still good folk out there. The AAA tow truck operator asked me where I wanted it to be towed, and I immediately said "Sharp Transmission." The dropped it off and put the key in the after hours slot. Next day,I called Milt and said, take a look and give me my options. No rush, I said, since I have other cars I can drive. Milt and his crew found some time to not only diagnose the problem (two rubbng hoses put a hole in one), but to repair the problem. Same day! I picked the car up this morning and it is working perfectly. Like I said before, if you are not taking your car to Sharp, you should start doing so. Great service, excellent communication, attention to detail... Highly recommended.

Was shouted at over the phone when I called to ask for an update on the car I had dropped off. Was told he wouldn't work on it and to have it towed away to another shop citing that there were "too many cars in line" "people are always calling and interrupting me while I'm working". When picking up the car I tried to explain that I was only calling because of the timeline they gave me and the owner shouted at me threatened to fight me in the office?! Honestly, it seemed like he was having a nervous breakdown, so yeah, wouldn't recommend. Pretty insane way to treat customers.

The other local and well-respected shop did not correctly locate a minute cooling leak, which was only resolved when RHA re-opened and I brought it in to them.

I've been to both chains and mom-and-pop shops in the area, and have often left feeling the job wasn't done well (which later bears out), takes too long, and/or I've been overcharged for the service. This is not the case at Red Hook Auto--Joe's fantastic at his job, honest, and incredibly efficient. He also gives great referrals (body shops and such) if needed. I had a deeply disappointing experience at Haviland Auto Repair on April 21, 2025, around 3:45 PM,…read moreand I feel compelled to warn others about the unprofessional behavior of the owner, Scott DeLucca, and his uncle. I walked in for a New York State vehicle inspection, a service they advertise, but from the moment I arrived, Scott was dismissive. He immediately assumed, "You're probably here for an inspection, that's the only time you come," which set a negative tone. Before I could even respond, his uncle chimed in, bringing up an irrelevant issue about tires I supposedly didn't pick up two or three years ago. What does that have to do with my inspection? Absolutely nothing. It felt like a deliberate attempt to shame me and avoid doing their job. I expected to be treated with respect as a customer, but instead, Scott and his uncle teamed up to make me feel unwelcome. They didn't offer to inspect my vehicle, nor did they provide an appointment, which they are legally required to do under New York State law (§ 79.8(c)--if they can't inspect your vehicle right away, they must offer an appointment within eight days). Instead, their hostile attitude left me with no choice but to walk out--it genuinely felt like they threw me out for no reason other than their own bad attitudes.

I got the inspection done today and the experience was great. Jay, one of the owners, welcomed me to the shop, very friendly. I sat in the waiting area after they started the inspection. There was another customer there and we started chatting. He couldn't praise the guys there enough. This other customer and I started lamenting how a lot of businesses don't provide the same customer experience we were use to from when we were younger (yes, bunch of old guys lamenting the world is going to...) and he said J&J is one of the exceptions. Jay showed me some additional concerns on my car...brake and tire wear. He showed me the problem areas and said I have some time left but these expenses are coming down the pike. It was refreshing to see this sales approach...I was aware he was upselling the other services they offer and I was totally happy with that...that's what all businesses must do. It was the approach, education, and showing me why the repairs would be needed that convinced me that when I need the work to be done, I will go to Jay and his team. Well done guys and keep it up!
