Customer service was really good. Felt welcome when I came in. The dog on the other hand was basic. I ordered the dogs all the way. The bun was steamed which I liked however the chili was bland and lacking flavor. It could have benefited from some coleslaw. There is an age restriction. No one under the age of 18 is permitted. The place stunk like still ashtrays know where did I read it was smoking allowed but it was pure nasty smelling. Years ago I remember the chili dogs being very good. That's not the case anymore. Bland "hamburger meat chili" and very little mustard does not make a good chili dog. I don't even think I would consider this chili. A few years ago they stopped serving Coca-Cola in small glass bottles. That was a mistake. We had family in from out of town and took them to Thomasville for a nice afternoon. Decided to treat them to a chili dog at Billiards Tavern and boy was that a mistake. Tough to screw up a hotdog but the chili was super dry and felt like the was a hair or two in it. Service was terrible and the girl at the window was beyond rude and really an embarrassment to the establishment. The guy was not much better. The girl posted a sign that said NO MORE DOGS! And subsequently used her middle finger to flip off her clientele. Another customer leaving had the same experience. The counter girl smirked that the order was complicated. I am not really sure how 5 hotdogs with bags of chips can be complicated but if it was for her, the anger that ensued was a terrible representation for Thomasville, GA POOR food and outwardly RUDE service equals a recommendation of Never go there. There are two ways to get a Chilly dog here. One way is to be old enough and brave enough to enter a hole in the wall pool hall/bar that is a pure dive, belly up to the bar and order away. The other more "polite" way is to simply walk up to the sliding window and place your order. After growing up in Thomasville and using the Billiard Academy chili dog as my standard for judgement of all chili dogs, I must amend my earlier review after my recent visit. Sure, it's still a great pool hall located in a great location. They still have picnic tables out front for folks who don't want to inhale secondhand smoke. They still have the walk-up window for folks who want chili dogs to go. The problem is...the chili dogs are terrible. Beyond terrible. I'm not entirely sure of what happened, but these chili dogs are nearly inedible. The buns are still the same, I think. The chili is probably still the same, I guess. The actual frank is definitely different. I think it's a chicken meat frank and it is honestly hard to swallow. It tasted like silly-puddy (okay I tasted it when I was a kid like you all did, too). Holy cow, how can the former best chili dog in the state regain its lost status? Have some pride and serve it with an all-beef frank. Do something, because these chili dogs are currently just a tasteless bundle of matter covered with mustard. read more

Had a couple or three of these hot dogs for lunch last Friday; 'all the way extra onions'. These things are up to $2.00 each now. I have a few every three or so years just to remind me of intense indigestion and heartburn lasting almost all weekend long. Not even remotely good - grey water dogs with absolutely no taste whatsoever topped with a 'home-made' chili sauce (again no heat, no flavor and questionable ingredients). So "world famous" does not equate with delicious! I recently was at the 95th annual rose Festival and saw the sign about world famous chili dogs and I love a good hotdog. This was not a good hotdog, in fact it tasted like a Vienna sausage (pale hot dog like things in a can packed with water) the chili had no real spice or taste. The hotdog was bland but left an unpleasant aftertaste and the chili was also bland despite the onions peppers I could see. The best thing about The billiard Academy is not their chili dogs which are greasy and a bit bland but your in a Authentic Old School pool room open since the early 1900's. That makes eating their chili dog worth the indigestion you will get. Pool or billiards has a bad reputation and it's undeserved. My Fourteen years old gets straight A's and is in love with the game. Pool keeps many inner city youths out if trouble. Give your child a cue and some quality time with you at a pool room and let's keep our kids out of trouble. We even have a pool table at our church which he attends regularly. Their are many family oriented billiard parlors across our country. Help bring a great game back with positive feedback.
