Plumber supposedly 'fixed' our leaking shower by rebuilding the valve. So the slow leak has turned into a frozen faucet. Called to complain, took awhile to get a response. Plumber came back tried to move faucet handle, forced it and it broke apart. He then said the handle was old and we could should replace it. The handle wasn't the problem, the shower valve is frozen in place, will not move, and after the plumber left the second time we noticed that the (?stem?) is pinched, like someone tried forcibly turning it with a wrench. So the shower still doesn't work, and I haven't had them come back. read more

I asked for a estimate on breaking up the floor and fixing the pipe that had collapsed. He came out and said he charges $375 a foot and he would send me a estimate. 2 weeks later no estimate even after I have called the business a few times asking. Never heard a word from him again. I had another plumber in the area come out and this particular plumber said it's usually $150 a foot. He continued to tell me that that's what Bill rhiners does to people. I would advise not ever using this company as they are trying to get the most out of your pocket they can and not even professional enough to let you know they don't wanna do the job! We called to have a leaking toilet fixed. Our home has CPVC pipes and it's over 20 years old. The plumber from Rhiners let alone any plumber worth anything should have known these pipes can get brittle and we've been told by a couple other plumbers that they just don't break on their own with a little bit of pressure. Apparently the plumber from Rhiners cranked on it to tighten it and it broke. We had water running everywhere. This was on a Wednesday...they didn't come back until Thursday into the following week so we were down a bathroom and shower during that time. My husband paid for the services on that Wednesday. About $130. Keep in mind that they broke the pipe... when they fixed it the next week they charged us $630 plus we have holes in our walls that need patching that again...had they not busted our pipe in the first place none of this extra cost would have been an issue. My husband emailed them and pleaded our case that this wasn't our doing...they refused to budge on the cost of the 2nd visit and told him they didn't charge us for labor for the first visit... WHAT??? If they hadn't broke the pipe on the first visit we would have never had a 2nd visit. This is totally ridiculous and no way to work with a customer! I needed new garbage disposal. They showed up, installed it, couldn't get the switch to work properly and told me I needed an electrician. So I spent a day trying to set up an appt with electrician, only to take my own look to see he had PLUGGED IT INTO THE WRONG OUTLET. I fixed that then, I ran the disposal once, it fell off and drained water everywhere. A new tech came to fix it. 4 month later.... OUTSIDE WARANTY... it stopped again. they came out, cleared the blockage and charged me 127 dollars for the work. It has stopped working twice since then as well that I have personally fixed to save the money. Trash equipment and trash-trained employees. Total cost of $630.77, and I'm still having to make repairs to the disposal on my own. read more

We have used Rhiner's for several years. In January we had them install a new tankless water heater (their quote was WAY lower than another well-known company in town) as well as a new toilet in our master bedroom ensuite. A few weeks later we noticed a water leak in the room below the toilet. It turned out that a faulty toilet installation was the culprit. They were very quick in coming out to make the repair at no charge and very quick and accommodating in getting the drywall repair made. We were very satisfied with their response and we will continue to be Rhiner's customers! read more

I called approximately eight months ago after hours to have an appointment set up as soon as possible. No one ever called back ever. I called a competitor the next day mid afternoon and they responded quickly. I call again recently during work hours for a clogged kitchen sink. Made a same day appointment. No plumber called nor responded to my house for the schedule time of 1-4 PM. I called Rhiner's and was told the plumber was stuck on another job. I asked why did I have to call you to find out this information. Their answer was first come first served. However, I called at 8:30 AM to set up the original appointment. I was told the plumber was going to respond "first thing in the morning" and I will get a call prior to responding. Well, no call and no plumber ever responded. If you believe in the three strike rule, well Rhiners doesn't return calls, doesn't notify you if they get too busy, and most importantly they don't show to complete the work. Wish there was a lower rating than one star for this company. Pathetic read more

I have used them twice for two unrelated issues. They did a great job both times. Came in as scheduled the first time and called ahead the second to see if they could come early. Offered an option to save me money. I was on the path to spend $600-$700 to fix a sink issue and they recommended a $150 solution. They made less $, I saved some. OK. I normally don't write reviews of anything, but this is practically criminal. We had a small leak under the sink, since I couldn't identify it, we called Bill Rhiner Plumbing. The are located 2.2 miles from my home. We were scheduled between 2-4, he showed up before noon and phoned us because no one answered the door. When he came at the correct time to do the work, he identified the problem and tightened a nut, all in 5 minutes. The bill for this service? Drum roll please! $136.21 You got it, ONE HUNDRED THIRTY SIX DOLLARS and twenty one cents!! This is for driving two miles and working for 5 minutes. If there is a minimum trip charge of $39 and $90 minimum labor charge, it might be wise to discuss this with a customer before scheduling a non-emergency trip. Last Spring I had Holt Plumbing out to do some work, and they identified that I needed an angle meter valve replaced in the basement. This is located where the city water supply enters the home, so to do the work they had to turn off the water line at the stop box out underground at the curb. Holt doesn't usually do outside plumbing and they were unable to close the curb valve. I contacted Schleivert Plumbing in Urbandale that does outside plumbing to see if they could shut it or give me an estimate if it had to be replaced. They left a bid of almost $2,000 to do the work. I wasn't able to pay that much at the time, but this week I contacted Bill Rhiner's to see if I could get a more reasonable estimate. The crew came out and within a couple of minutes they were able to access and turn the valve with no trouble. I asked what I owed them and they said their office would send a bill. An hour later their office called and told me there would be no charge. I was shocked but delighted to hear that, especially after reading some of the older reviews for Rhiner's that complained about excessive billing. On 4/02/2019 I had a plumber come to my house for a backflow inspection from Bill Rhiners plumbing. He was here less then 10 minutes and misread the serial number on the unit so it was incorrectly reported to the city,etc. He charged me $200. Thinking this was high I had Dsm property services come over 5/12/2020. Their tech was here for 40 minutes and explained in detail the inspection he had done. He charged me $75. It appears Bill Rhiner plumbing gouges return customers and this time didn't even do the work right. I am through with them, their outrageous rates, and poor work. If you have a sprinkler system or need plumbing work done Avoid Bill Rhiner plumbing. read more

I called this company to have them fix a leaking lavatory faucet. The plumber assigned to the job arrived two hours early, fixed the problem within 15 minutes, and was very professional. However, he presented us with an invoice that included a full hour's labor charge of $89.50 AND a travel charge of $59 (the office is only 15 minutes away and the plumber was coming from another job, not the office). I don't find the labor charge excessive, and while paying for a full hour when the work took only a quarter hour is irritating, I understand the need for a minimum charge when it is impossible to guess the job's needs in advance and schedule accordingly. When I phoned the office to complain about the travel charge -- which I was NOT told about in advance -- the person on the phone in essence told me, "tough luck, that's our policy." I fully expected to pay the going labor rate for the work, but expecting me to pay for an undisclosed travel charge is outrageous, especially considering the plumber came from another job. This reminds me of airline company pricing for extras -- we gouge the customer because we can. There are plenty of qualified plumbers in the area. Next time I'll call one of them and won't do business with this plumbing company again. read more

I have used Rhiner's many times over the years. Greg has done an excellent job for water heater and AC problems. Someone else came for a plumbing problem and was not nearly as impressive. He eventually fixed the problem, which was a leaking toilet, but cut a hole in the drywall before he stumbled onto the problem. Rhiner's is probably not the cheapest HVAC service, but I do trust Greg. read more

Adel plumbing on Yelp is actually Bill Rhiner's Plumbing, Heating & Cooling out of Clive. They will charge you a hour of plumbing to drive out to Adel or past Adel. The kid who did our plumbing was RUDE, kept his company van stereo blazing the whole time he was in my house which caused my dog to have a fit. Kid didn't put on the toliet back on correctly which caused air to get in the line. And now we have to get some new wax seals and do it ourselves. He didn't do the right bathroom so we still have a clog in the line. read more

He spent 30-40 min working on it, I was charged for 1 hour of work. I told them he still has 30-20 min to fix it. They said they do not give warranty, if parts are mine. Cheap faucet, materials only $150, rest was labor. Negotiated bill down to $760 - paid it so they wouldn't put a lien on my house. Will never use again. They are crooks.
