I first started working with Dr Bill 15 years ago when I was having relationship issues, and problems with intimacy. Over the years Dr Bill has been a mentor, and at times like a father figure to me. With his broad skill set and tools, as well as the sacred safe space he creates, he has been the single most important person in my life as it relates to my personal growth. I continue to work with Dr Bill as issues come up. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a deeper sense of self and purpose, or to tackle relationship issues. read more

The bottom line: Dr. Bill fixed my life and I didn't even know it was broken. The Details: I've seen Dr. Bill for over three years; before that, I had never received any type of therapy. I initially started going for couples therapy; however, he soon became my personal therapist. At fist, I was like most men: I refused to go, made excuses, didn't think I needed therapy; I was embarrassed, defensive and uncomfortable. Over the years, I surrendered to the process. I can't imagine where I'd be, had I not started down this wonderful path. I prefer actions over words. Dr. Bill is the right therapist if you're interested in improving your life. In addition to learning more about the human (an my personal) emotional process, I've collected many tools that I use every day. Tools that help me with work, family, and social situations. Couples: I can't praise Dr. Bill enough for how he works with couples. Guys: This isn't some "gang up you" session; where the majority of the people in the room tell you everything you're doing wrong. He knows how you feel, he knows how to help you express how you feel, and he doesn't make you feel unmanly for expressing your feelings. Ladies: Dr. Bill truly understands women. He's able to put how you're feeling into language that men understand and visa versa. Furthermore, he gives both of you the tools to understand and communicate with one another outside of his office. Dr. Bill is overflowing with wisdom. He spent many years working in the business world, so he's an excellent resources for actionable advice. He'll help you feel confident about asking for that raise, dealing with a difficult co-worker, or setting boundaries with your family. Dr. Bill's practice isn't your typical "Beverly Hills" or "LA" practice--he's a down-to-earth man who truly cares about people. His prices are extremely reasonable and he's very accommodating when it comes to scheduling changes. I am profoundly grateful that this man has come into my life. read more

Ever go someplace where the experience is supposed to be about you and it ends up being all about the service provider? Yeah. Bad Experience. My gf and I went to him to work out some issues we're having, and every time I would speak, he would interrupt me, usually with a judgement. Interjected his personal religious beliefs into the session and when I disagreed, seemed very fired up to counter me and debate and disagree. I went in open and receptive and halfway through the session (the FIRST sesson...and only one, after this experience) I was completely shut down. My gf and I left worse off than we walked in, and $150 poorer. We're looking for another counselor who will listen, get to know us and the root issues and work with us in compassion and with respect. I have no doubt he knows his stuff; from my experience though, his ego is just really in the way. read more

Myself and my husband have seen Dr. Bill for over 3 years, both together and individually. It feels a bit personal and revealing to review my mental health provider, but I owe so much to my work with him, and if one other person can read this and get on a healthier emotional path because it inspired them to call Dr. Bill, it's worth me getting a bit personal on Yelp. Though I have tried many other highly recommended psychologists around the city, you can feel the difference in experience and expertise with Dr. Bill. It's sort of like when people say "once you drive a Mercedes you only want a Mercedes"- no one really compares in quality to Dr. Bill. No response is "typical" psych speak, or methodical, there is no "and how did that make you feel?" type of questioning. He is genuine, and gets very real with you. To put it best, in most therapy I feel like I simply have an expert listening to my problems and giving good feedback- with Dr. Bill, I actually feel like I'm accomplishing something, and being given tools to progress emotionally. I achieve more with Dr. Bill in one session than I do with any other psychologist in 3 or 4. Though Dr. Bill and I have little in common as people (full disclosure: I'm a non-religious bisexual Libertarian) I still feel like he fully understands and appreciates who I am, despite coming from different backgrounds. He does bring up faith briefly, but not to motivate or persuade you, but because discussing what higher power (or not) is part of your life is an important part of who you are as it relates to therapy. I feel the need to say this, because I actually find him to be the most non-judgmental psychologist I've seen. He is extremely versatile. My husband and I both find him to be the best fit for us as individuals, despite having very different mental health profiles. I also love his office. The furniture and books are beautiful, it's always superbly clean, and he always has water bottles and chocolate for you (who doesn't want to talk about their problems while eating chocolate?!). Parking in this area for free can be done creatively on Sepulveda Blvd, or you can pay for the convenience of the private lot (6$ an hour). I believe evenings are free. read more

Dr. Bill is not your typical therapist. He truly, genuinely and openly cares about his patients. I've been seeing him for about three years and he has helped me find my voice when I thought I didn't have one. Since meeting Dr. Bill, I have become a stronger, more grounded and confident person. By helping me uncover my "true self", he's helped me tackle some of the biggest issues in my life. I will forever be grateful to Dr. Bill for all he has done and continues to do. Without any hesitation, I would recommend him to everyone I know. He's a rare gem. read more

Authentic, wise, soulful, empathic and caring, Dr. Bill Hoppock is one of those rare psychologists whom Carl Jung once referred to as "physicians of the soul." If your image of a psychologist is of someone who sits impassively and nods while asking you once every ten minutes "how do you feel about that", then prepare to have that image forever changed. Dr. Bill has the incredible capacity to truly meet you where you're at, and in our time working together this has meant working on everything from building more effective leadership skills to interrogating the direction, trajectory and goals for my life to helping me explore the deepest recesses of my identity, nuturing those parts with whom I most privately identify but which did not get expressed enough in the world. His style is warm, friendly and engaging and, at the same time, direct and authenitc. You will not find yourself floating in a sea of jargon with Dr. Bill, nor will you find pat, simplistic answers to life's many thorny problems. What you will find is somehow who will walk beside you wherever and on whatever type of journey you're on, nurturing, validating and encouraging you to connect with inner resources you may not even be aware you possess. If you're lucky enough to work with Dr. Bill, you'll come to discover those resources are part of who you really are. I know I did! read more

Nice enough guy. Well versed in his fields of study. Went to him for multiple sessions. Felt like he injected the topic of religion and his personal beliefs into sessions, despite me conveying I wasn't interested nor motivated by "faith" talk, as he and I have a completely different set of ideals. dr. Hoppock seems suited for a certain "group" of people. If you share his same personal view points, have similar backgrounds etc, I'm sure he's fine. Anything or anyone remotely out of his "box," in any remote regard, and I think he loses focus on the goal of the session and instead focuses on trying to make you believe that he believes he's comfortable counseling you. read more

My boyfriend and I started seeing Dr. Bill about 2 years ago for couple's therapy. I had never met with a therapist before, but Dr Bill immediately helped me feel at ease. He tells cheesy jokes and hilariously relatable stories of his experiences. There is no doubt in my mind that he truly cares about us and our wellbeing. Over the 2 years, he's helped my boyfriend and I, not only with the day-to-day workings of our relationship, but individually. He finds that perfect balance of giving perspective without picking sides. More or less, he kindly cuts through all the bull****, which I appreciate. We initially met with him because we liked that he had many years of business/entrepreneurial experiences. There are differences in how my boyfriend and I work together, because we also have businesses/investments together. Dr Bill has had experiences with this as well, and has given us great insight on what to do when business-life gets CRAZY. He doesn't let things go unresolved. Sometimes a problem can be solved within the 1hr by just talking it out, while other times, he works through several sessions to get to the heart of the matter and fix that rooted problem. He would also email to check in between sessions to see how we were doing on a particular problem. Over the last 2 years, I have grown so much, and no doubt Dr Bill has played a huge part in that. I cannot recommend him enough!! read more

The most important quality you want in a therapist is authenticity. A close second is empathy. Bill has both these qualities in droves, and if your problems happen to include business ones, step right into his tastefully furnished office. When I started seeing Bill, I was reeling from a breakup of the worst kind and the ensuing effects upon me and the business I was responsible for. He had his hands full especially at the beginning, but my sense was he was on familiar ground; the wisdom of having seen _this_ battlefield before. I'm sure you can imagine the few times in your life when you've been thoroughly listened to when it counted the most (and how necessary that is); that's what you'll get day in and day out with Bill. If you are a man and have struggled with therapists that can't man up with you, Bill is the right choice. Perfecting the balance between empathy, confidence and character is perhaps Bill's greatest ability. He also makes it personal by relating stories from his own life, something few therapists do but more should. It seems that the best endorsement I can give Bill is my continued business--about 18 months without missing a week. Thanks Bill -- you've been worth every penny and I'm the best man I can be thanks to you. read more

Dr. Bill Hoppock is an amazing psychologist. I have worked with him for over five years and he has used an integrative approach to help me overcome anxiety, achieve my academic and professional goals, and grow through transitions and tragedies. Dr. Bill is extremely knowledgeable and highly intelligent. His style is matter-of-fact while being incredibly nurturing, so you feel like you are getting expert treatment from someone who cares about you. It is always helpful to talk to him, and the relaxation and stress-management tools he has taught me to use when I am not in his office, have made a huge difference in my life. I consistently leave his office feeling more relaxed, centered, and comfortable with my decisions. I highly recommend him! read more

I've seen my share of therapists in my day and Dr. Bill is one of the best. Patient, understanding, REAL and often to the point, I rarely get away with bullshit with him and frankly, have given up trying. I've yelled at him, laughed with him and in the end usually find myself moving towards a renewed self. His psych background has been very helpful in helping me define what my issues are, including constructs going back to my early childhood. I've also recommended him to others and do so here. read more

Bill is such a sweet man. I would highly recommend him to both a novice or experienced therapy-goer looking for a compassionate yet structured experience. Bill is extremely well-versed and experienced in his field. I personally enjoyed hearing about the trends and research in psychology that Bill referenced in our sessions. It provided a nice anchor to what can otherwise become an amorphous hour of venting. I echo the other reviewers here that say, "he keeps it real" or "he's like the father I never had." Both of these statements are so true. If you are open to Bill's yoda-like wisdom you may stand to have many "a-ha" moments like I did. Parking is available on Sepulveda (be careful of the aggressive car traffic) or paid valet (cash) attached to building as well. read more

I've been to several therapists over the course of my life, but none for as long or consistently as I've seen Dr. Bill. He's seen me through some very difficult loss and transitions, and his humor and insight continue to provide healing and comfort. He's compassionate, professional, and silly in all the right ways. He cares and goes out of his way for me and I can only assume he does the same for all his patients. Dr. Bill is an amazing find in an otherwise daunting and often misleading sea of mental health professionals. Three cheers for Dr. Bill!! read more

I was recommended Dr Bill by a friend.  I spoke to Dr Bill over the phone after a two week search reading reviews of other therapists in Los Angeles.  Because Dr Bill had experience with Individuals as well as couples, plus career guidance, I decided to give him a shot. In the beginning he was sharp and on point.  He was respectful but also called out matter of factly what he was observing.  I could have recoiled and got defensive, but I knew that I needed to hear what he had to say.  In this case Dr Bill will meet you more than half way, but you've got to do the work.  My work was getting out of the weeds so to speak.  I'd go in one week, and sometimes it was more about the emotions of a divorce.  Another week it was more about losing my sense of self and place in a specialized job.  What I found in Dr Bill was his ability to pull from different tool sets as they related to emotional health, values, work/life balance and where am I going now with what I've been given.   I brought him a lot at once and he has continued to give me an interchangeable framework to keep me on track.  I am a better person for working with Dr Bill.  And believe me it is work.  Life is still a challenge but with the experience I've gained from Dr Bill, I am applying what I've learned in my life choices going forward.   Lastly, I happened to read some reviews of Dr Bill, both positive and negative.  With regards to the negative reviews let me say that Dr Bill has been invaluable to me.  If it isn't a good fit or you're not willing to do the work, move on.  Dr Bill is there for you, and to help cut through what got you here in the first place. read more
