I have been doing Yoga at my gym for months, with the aid of a friend, Chris, who helped me learn most of the positions. When he invited me to finally attend a 6am class at Bikram Yoga of Bayport, I thought no sweat! But I would find out later, sweat I would be doing. I got there with my gym partner at about 5:30am and the parking lot was completely empty. We met up with another gym friend, Sheri, who also got there early. Rachel the instructor, also a friend, invited us in and went over the pricing. Rachel also gave great tips and advice since it was my first time. I walked into the room and couldn't believe how hot it was. I thought it must have been a mistake! It was hotter inside that room then it was outside. My friend, Sheri, was already in the room comfortable and stretching. She recommended that I do it also to get use to the heat and so I did. Class didn't even start and I was sweating. The guy that invited me, Chris, showed up and he looked like a professional. I didn't know what attire to wear or even what I was doing. I asked him a lot of questions before class started and he explained everything well, as he always does. Finally Rachel walked in and class started. Let me say I have worked out in a gym for years. I have never sweated in a gym like I did 20 minutes in that class. The class we were taking is called "Vinyasa," it is more complete movements and is continuous. Rachel was a wonderful instructor, she had a calming tone in her voice and explained every movement so carefully. Rachel had a very soft music on that helped me focus along with the breathing exercises she went over. I almost gave up many times but I pushed on. I knew every drop of sweat that hit my Mat was weakness leaving my body. I made it through 90 precent of the class before fatigue finally came over me. I was done. I laid there happy to get as fair as I did. After class everyone walks out the room when they were ready, no rush, you can leave when you feel satisfied. There is a locker room you can use or just leave. I stayed behind to talk with my friends. I felt incredible after the class. My body felt loose and I had no tightness in my back. Once again I expressed my excitement for the class and for Rachel as a instructor. I plan to make this a regular part of my life. I hope everyone incorporates Yoga to their lives. read more

This was my first time visiting a Bikram studio in the Northeast. I'm not sure if my experience is common. Do other studios have central heating? The staff was super friendly/positive and the two class special was a fantastic deal. There is a coat and shoe rack in the front near the separate women and mens changing/storage rooms. The studio is through the main doors and on the other side of the studio is the showers and restrooms. The temperature and humidity was regulated by heat fans and humidifiers. As a result, the atmosphere was unevenly distributed. I quickly regretted so boldly setting my mat down in front of the heat fan. It felt like first degree burns. They need to leave an employee at the front desk while class is in session. If you take too long showering and the next class is already in session, you have to not only run through the studio (ouch) but you leave the front door unlocked, putting your personal effects at risk. I was under the impression that a carpeted floor was regulation, but these guys have a hardwood floor. I didn't notice it particularly slippery but it is like walking on coals room temperature bare feet. read more

I have to say I never thought I would enjoy yoga. Many times in the past I started it, but would never finish it. Maybe it was the place, the instructors or the staff that made me feel awkward. When an old friend suggested Suzanne and her yoga studio I was reluctant. I think I am in shape but I acknowledge flexibility and mindfulness are absent in me. Well I have to say that I love this place and I am getting better at it daily. Suzanne's staff welcomes newbies like they are seasoned vets. I can't do all the poses, but the instructors don't care. They encourage and gently push you to get more. As a coach , i liked how they did it. The studio is hot when it needs to be, but can cool down quickly. I hope others visit this amazing place so they can enjoy it as much as I do. read more

I have never been. Ever. This was my first time. Yes. I have been deflowered. I went with a friend who encouraged me to try it. I'm glad he did and glad I did! It was about 70% of what I expected. The other 30% was off the chart. Much harder and hotter than I thought it would be. They have a pretty good introductory deal. 1st class is $18 and you can buy a month unlimited at $30. Regular monthly cost is I think $125. If you are thinking of it I would recommend giving it a try. read more

I'm visiting Long Island and took advantage of their $30 for 30 days special. This was my first experience with Bikram. At first, the heat was almost unbearable but I acclimated by my 4th class. This is a friendly studio with excellent instructors. I'm glad they added Vinyasa because just Bikram could get monotonous. It seems to be a close knit community of regulars. If you live in the area, I highly recommend giving it a month trial. The heat will slay you at first--just stick with it and you'll get addicted! read more

Truly an amazing place to practice. I have been attending yoga here on and off for over a year now and I love it! It's a warm and friendly studio. I have tried other studios that are closer to me, however they don't come close to the instructors here at Bikram Yoga Bayport. Besides their great instruction and helpful hints; their encouraging words fill the hot room and help you push through each class. I am also greatly enjoying their newer class - Hot Vinyasa. I even find their emails helpful too. They alert you with updated class information, workshops, and reminders. I genuinely recommend this studio, whether you practice daily or trying it for the first time! read more

I recently signed up for the new student deal, $20 for a week of unlimited yoga. At first it was fine, but during my forth class I realized that they were not mopping the floors between classes. I'm not a germophobe but I thought this was unsanitary and just gross. I'm not sure if this is common practice for Bikram yoga studios not to clean the floors between classes, after people have been sweating puddles on them for an hour and half, but it definitely turned me off. read more
