Extremely disappointing experience I hired Conor twice over the course of two years, and my experiences were initially wonderful and positive. That's why I was especially shocked when this most recent transaction with Conor and Ryan of Bikelab turned into an absolute nightmare. I paid BikeLab for a service involving my bike keys, and what should have been a simple transaction turned into weeks of delays, broken promises, and extremely poor communication. To this day, they have never returned my keys, and I have lost access to my e-bike which has been devastating to me. I was repeatedly told that my keys would be returned by specific dates, only for those deadlines to pass without my keys being returned or anyone communicating with me. I was eventually given another firm delivery time, told 100% my keys would be returned and multiple times those promised returns were also missed. I have spent an unreasonable amount of time following up, trying to get basic information about when and how my property would be returned. I would send urgent text messages and then not hear back for days at a time. They were essentially unreachable throughout the process and never once picked up the phone to speak with me directly, NOT ONCE did they pick up the phone or make efforts to apologize or take any responsibility despite dozens of attempts to call them. The most frustrating part has been the complete lack of communication and accountability. When I expressed my frustration about the repeated delays and lack of communication, I was called names, told I was "crazy" and "out of line," rather than receiving any acknowledgment of the very legitimate frustration caused by their repeated failure to follow through on their commitments. When a business takes possession of your property and repeatedly promises to return it by specific dates and times, I believe it is reasonable to expect those commitments to be honored or at minimum, to be notified when circumstances change. I am posting this review because my experience has been unnecessarily stressful and has significantly disrupted my plans and hurt me financially as I have lost access to use my E-bike. Got totally ripped off. Texted with Conor about a new battery for my friend's son's e-bike back in September. He told me to cancel where we ordered one from as he could get us the battery in 2-3 days as he called his warehouse to confirm (have texts to back all this up). Once paid, he said it would take 5 days. After 3 weeks and no battery, my friend just sent the original broken battery they had to FTH Power who fixed it in 2 days (which now cost more money to do). Eventually Conor showed up and still no new battery but said he could get a new seat cover and grips that her son wanted and then refund the rest. Weeks went by again with nothing being delivered. After texting again, he texted back saying I would get a revised invoice with the price for seat covers and grips and what would be refunded the next day. A week later when that never happened, he texted that he 100% guaranteed I would get that invoice the next day. That was weeks ago and still nothing was ever delivered. Now he has gone silent and I still don't have my money back. A total fraud. Have sent him a demand letter to get the full amount refunded and will be filing a police report and contact Small Claims Court. I had my cargo bike tuned up with this company for $250 then the charged me another $150 to put quiet break pads (my daughter is sensitive to sound) and slime in tires. He took my pump that was not reading the pressure and said he could warranty it. He said he would give me temporary pump while we wait for warranty one to arrive. It's been over a month and he never gave back my pump after telling me it was ready and he would drop it off. Always ready with an excuse. Warranty on work done doesn't mean anything because this guy won't show up not respond to your messages. For work he has done I paid 1/2 up front and rest at pick up. He kept on texting me he was almost at my house to return the bike soon and what my balance is. When I walked outside to get my bike, my sun shade bracket was missing and fabric ripped. He never mentioned it before coming he just wanted me to pay up so he didn't say a word. He ordered me a replacement thru bunch bike and I received it. The shock on the technicians face when I walked him through the story, but even more so once he took a look at the bikes - Conor had in fact done almost nothing but damage to 4 e-bikes. Further, the velofix technician (a real pro) mentioned this is not the first time he has been called in to handle a scam from bikelab. Thankfully my kids did not ride the ebikes as they were left in a highly unsafe condition - I am passed the anger of being scammed out of money but the thought that my kids could have been hurt because of this guys incompetence is something completely different. For your own safety be smart and take your bikes to a local bike shop or hire a real group - this guy is treacherous. DO NOT USE. I should have read reviews, my mistake. Conor came to service our families e-bikes, claimed he had to order parts and would be back the next morning. against my better judgement I paid him in advance - surprise surprise he has taken the money and run and now I have 4 inoperable bikes. don't fall for this scam, use velofix instead - a bit more expensive but you can avoid dealing with the disingenuous treacherous con man. he is out to take advantage of people, again should have trusted my instincts as I identified him as a shady character but was putting some faith in humanity. $700 gone. read more

From the start of our correspondence, Connor was very communicative. He answered his phone when I called and he responded promptly through text messages. I chose a mobile bike service because the RadWagon that needed fixing is heavy and I couldn't easily transport since we had a flat. Aside from the flat, I also wanted a tune-up after having built the bike myself. Though I didn't get any other bids, considering what I was paying for, I feel like the price was fair. On top of that, Bike Lab offers a time period of free service (in our case, 6 months) beyond the initial work in the case of minor issues post servicing. This seems pretty standard for bike repairs but it's good that Bike Lab guarantees their work. All that said, though I've given 5 stars, 4.5 is really more accurate. I've never used a mobile bike service so perhaps I should have known what to expect, but the breadth of Bike Labs coverage, I was told Malibu through the South Bay, messed with the timing of pickup and drop-off. It may be best for Bike Lab to give a time window to their customers. No one likes a time window, but at least Bike Lab could account for the fluctuations of LA traffic if they told the customer, "we'll be able to pick-up/drop-off between 1 and 4". Then, of course, they'd need to stick to that window. All in all, I was happy with the service. Many of the negative reviewers' complaints seem to address issues that are out of Bike Labs control. Everyone wants things done right away and wants the process to proceed start to finish without any hiccups but the technicians at Bike Lab are human so there are going to be hiccups given the nature of the service. I think they should be allowed some grace. I will say, though, that they could do a better job with the nature of their communication. Don't promise things that you won't be able to follow through on and don't rely on excuses to cover for the things you can't control. It's a bad look and it's what the low reviews have been focusing on. Use less words and stand behind the words you give. read more

Mistakenly, I paid him in advance for a part for my bike that nobody else could find. Of course he told me he found it immediately and required full payment to order it; that he would receive it in a Daly or 2, and would come install it within 2 or 3 days. That was about 3 weeks ago and I still don't have it. Delay excuses include: "away for Thanksgiving holiday, I wrote you a text to tell you I would be delayed, but inadvertently did not send it, My vehicle is being serviced and I'm won't get it until tomorrow, hopefully", blah blah. Dreadful and horrible bike repair experience. Where do we begin?! Unprofessional, defensive and even hostile. First, he never showed up when he said he was. I've never in my long life dealt with someone who constantly has excuses and no accountability. My first appointment went like this: He said he'd be here by 330pm, then he says "Sorry we're running a little later then expected so we will be there closer to 4:15ish is that going to be ok? " Then at 430 he says "I'm sorry we're just running behind schedule since we're short handed today, so we're still a ways away. I really apologize we just had a little emergency yesterday so we're short staffed. Thanks for your understanding l! I'll give you a few options for tomorrow." Two hours pass waiting for the options ... then I ask "can we pick a time tomorrow?" "Ya sorry I was just waiting for my partner to text me back. So if we can be there tomorrow early afternoon will that be ok?" He says he can be over between 1245-130. At 12 the next day I get a text "Hopefully you don't kill me but we're still short handed today so we're meeting another client nearby tomorrow so if that's ok we can come before we meet another client? If not then we can still plan for today! Thx " wtf? I tell him I need him to still come and can't postpone another day. 3 hours pass ... now 3 hours late he says "I'm sorry we're in a bad service area. Ya that's the plan to still come today as you requested. We're just still short handed so running later then expected. So don't let me hold you up. I'll text you at least an hour before arrival to make sure that's still ok to come. Thank you " He doesn't come at all that day. Doesn't even text. When I send a text later that evening (and more out of curiosity about why didn't he show up), he texts me at midnight the next day to say "Hey there sorry I live in a bad service area so we can be there Today between 3:30-5:30pm if that's ok for you? As mentioned we can do the job on site or pickup if that's better for you. Thx" I tell him that time horizon will work for the following day. At 530 I ask him if he'll still be here. But he shows up around 7 and tells me the bike will be ready in 24 hours and that he'll pick it up and drop it off. I text him the next morning as it's a Sunday and asked for an eta so I knew when to be home. He answers two hours later and says "Hey there, we're doing our best to get the bike done to deliver asap this afternoon. I'll let you know at least an hour before arrival to make sure somebody is around! Thx" .. then he says "we should have it ready later this afternoon." You can guess. The bike was not ready that afternoon. So, after dealing with a quote that said the bike would be returned in 24 hours, the bike was returned in 72 hours. Here's the purported reason why: "you had a couple of stripped spokes" and "my van is in the shop so I have to try to borrow my dad's suv." The most unprofessional dude I've ever dealt with. "I told you I was on the way and you're giving me a cutoff time that's not realistic. I need to get there safely sir. Ive kept you in the loop everyday including all day today with what's going on. If I could if made it this morning I would of told you. I'm trying my best sir, it's clear you really don't trust us with your bike.I told you that I am borrowing my fathers vehicle which I didn't have the ability to do this morning. Our First deliveries are usually 10am but I can try to make it earlier. Thx " It was a fucking flat tire. Seriously? Yeah I didn't trust him with my bike and neither should you. Life saver and very professional. My specialized ebike had a flat in the back tire and I could get it off because of the heavy motorcycle tires. I needed my Ebike for getting to work the following week and BikeLab made the trip outside their normal area, and fixed it in one visit. There were some snags, like the power cable not having a quick release, but Conor assured me he could get the job done around it. He also tuned up the other parts; like the brake pad alignments and the squeek between the crankshafts. I am completely satisfied and have confidence in my E-bike again. Update: The bike basket was dropped off on my doorstep when I came home roughly a week after my original review. Unfortunately, I paid $50 with $10 being for installation but oh well, I will take the $10 dollar loss. Overall: - Terrible communication: Would say the bike would come in 2 days, and then it would be 4 days later, and I would follow up. Then he would text back (anywhere from the same day to a few days later) say another 2 days, the same thing would happen. Finally, he stopped responding until I left my original review roughly a month after our first contact. - Abusive responses: Texted me to go to hell, told me he would sue me, and called me a piece of shit. I finally blocked him after he told me to go fuck myself. - Manipulative: Would bring up their personal health problems as a way to defend against their poor customer service/communication skills in a way that was intended to make you feel bad. If you are so sick so often (other reviews from months ago also state that this person would claim health issues to them) then maybe hire part-time staff to respond to your customers? - Weird attempts at upcharging: I already paid via Zelle and there was no message around increased estimations until the day that they were supposed to drop off the bike. Then I was expected to find a way to pay them immediately for this additional "work" or, conveniently, I could review them positively and get this additional cost compensated. I imagine this is their MO to get so many 5 star reviews. - Unfair expectations: I was supposed to respond within the same day or same hour when they would take days to respond to my requests for updates. This is not a legitimate business. Conor took my mountain bike 1/24 after difficulty getting an appointment. I foolishly let him take my bike when I prepaid service, desperate times. What followed was the most unprofessional scammy communication I have ever experienced. I had to put pressure to get my bike returned before a hard deadline of moving to Hawai'i 3/8. Do not use this fraud business unless you want to file a theft police report to get your bike back, naturally without most the work done. He threatened to sue me for demanding return of my personal property. The communication was largely Conor Colburn making excuses and pretending to be different people, not returning my bike. After meeting him he told me his brother Sean is not involved in his business, despite texting repeatedly that he was his brother. There is a mysterious 'owner' and 'brother' separate from Conor, but they are not a part of this fraudulent business. Once I finally demanded my bike be returned before moving, he started being particularly foul. He offered a refund but didn't follow through, like all of his failed deliveries & lack of service. To retrieve the bike, I filed a police report & BBB complaint. I had to drive over an hour to meet him with a witness in a parking lot, get my mountain bike back, beforehand he sent me an additional bogus invoice, and he was wearing no mask screaming at me that he's going to sue. Do not use this service. Go to a real bike shop. This is not even sophisticated enough to be considered a con, just a scam operation by a very foul-mouthed unprofessional fraud. BAD SERVICE. UNPROFESSIONAL. CHILDISH. DREADFUL EXPERIENCE. I was just about to post my review about my dreadful experience with Conor, but decided to quickly check out the other reviews. It seems that my bad experience with Conor was the same as all of the other bad experiences people have had with him - not showing up when he said he would, ghosting, lack of professionalism, making excuses and no accountability, hostile, and defensive. He even used the same excuse with me as he did with many others - family emergency. I am deeply unsatisfied with the service that Conor provided. He did not return my bikes on the day that he had promised, claiming he had a "family emergency," a tactic he used before when delivery of my bikes was delayed. I was more than patient and flexible with the delivery days/times until he completely stopped responding to me altogether. I had to threaten to report my bikes as stolen before I got a cryptic response from Conor pretending to be someone else saying he wasn't at work. When Conor finally did respond, as himself, he angrily refused to deliver my bikes and told me pick them up because I expressed concern with his poor service. Conor finally delivered my bikes more than four days late after being reminded of the legalities of a contract. I am disappointed with Conor's rude and unprofessional behavior and his lack of communication. There should be no reason for a customer to ever wonder if their bikes and money were stolen. Conor's refusal to abide by his legal contract reflects a profound lack of character and integrity. I will never use Conor's services again. Thankfully, there are plenty of other mobile bike repairs to choose from who are professional, communicative, and do good work. read more
