Loose ends needed to be tied up One of the things that had to be taken care of was to make contact with the tow company involved with taking possession of the vehicle after the incident. The State Patrol's office gave me the number to Canipes Towing & Recovery. From the moment Mr. Canipe answered the phone, I felt at ease and very comfortable with how things needed to be handled. He was professional & courteous and he was empathetic about our unique situation What could have been a very stressful process ended up being literally a turn-key experience. He and his wife made everything so easy for me. After working out the details of how we needed to proceed. We agreed on a price. When the time came we met him to pick up the vehicle. He kept his word about everything he had told me. I walked away feeling so thankful that The Lord had allowed his company to be the one we encountered in the middle of a horrible, frightening situation. He had to leave his car because it wouldn't start. The car was left for a few hours and by the morning, was gone. No phone call, no warning, nothing. We found out that someone had towed it. Now, Ram's Eastgate Towing is charging us $400 to get the car. They said the fee was set by the city/county. I called the sheriff and PD and they said that this was not true, that rates are set by the towing company. Only NC highway patrol can set rates and by their website, a non-collision is around $185 and $40 storage fee AFTER the first night. The car was picked up early Monday morning and we picked it up on Tuesday. During a state of emergency, these people are capitalizing on people during a hard time. Without warning or notification. We did not get a chance to even get our own tow company and we're not sure if they we're out looking for cars to tow during the storm! They were rude and and unprofessional. We have been without power and water and these people only think about themselves as they kept showing my son the flooding in their driveway at their business, like we should be helping them! Do not recommend this place of business, at all.

The most traumatizing experience I've ever had…read more After my accident, my brand-new 2024 car was towed here by the shop owner, who told me he worked with Progressive Insurance. About a week later, I learned that my car had been taken apart without my authorization. He stated this was how the insurance would want to see it. When I called my insurance company, they told me no work should be done until their adjuster inspected. I relayed that to the shop, and the mechanic acknowledged it. The next day, he sent me a photo showing the car reassembled and said it was "all done." At that point, there was no mention of fees or issues. Two weeks later, after escalating my insurance claim, I reached back out. That's when I was told my car had been "repoed" and that I should contact my bank -- even though I was not behind on payments and had never missed one. When I checked with my bank, I discovered: * I was being charged over $3,500 in "storage fees" for just 18 days. * A mechanic's lien with intent to sell had been filed against my car after only 10 days -- something I was never notified about. * Nearly $1,000 in additional towing charges were added when the vehicle was moved to a repo yard. At no point did the shop ever contact me about fees, present me with an invoice, or give me the chance to move my car. This created unnecessary stress for me, my insurance company, the DMV and my bank while we sorted through it. This was one of the most difficult experiences I've ever gone through. Still, I believe there are blessings in everything. Based on my experience, I would strongly caution anyone against taking their vehicle here.
