We were in the area today and while we normally don't shop Big Y, so glad we did. This location had lots of fresh produce, great prices, a clean store and bathrooms, as well as amazing prices. Chobani yogurt was $2.99 for a six pack, Rao's spaghetti sauce/marinara for $5.99 to name two we picked up but also, an amazing selection of beer. Oh, red grapes were I think $1.79/lb which is way better than our local grocery store. We will gladly visit each time we are in the area. read more

I have been going to big y a few times a week and every time Abby goes above and beyond. If so can os dented she notices and get me another, if I need a larger cart she will get it, fhr will even unload my cart when I was injured. She is a delight and I will wait even if she has the longest line bc how great she is. And she makes me laugh. Thank you read more

AMAZING SUSHI! Chit at the sushi station hooked us up with delicious fresh sushi. Made to order! He was extremely friendly and helpful when taking our order. He even gave us four complimentary sushi pieces on top of the six rolls that were included in the platter we ordered. He prepared everything for us in 20 minutes while we did the rest of our shopping (although usually I think you are supposed to order ahead). Presentation and taste were on point, dare I even say better than sushi I've had in some restaurants. All in all pleasantly surprised for grocery store sushi! The Big Y on the Post Rd. in Milford, CT advertises a "$6 Sushi" special on Wednesdays. What they offer is not sushi, but a California Roll which contains no fish. It is usually made up of rice, cucumber, avacado and imitation crab, no fish. Do you like Spicy Tuna Roll? Sorry, it's not offered during this "sale". Neither is Salmon, Eel, Shrimp, or any other kind of fish or shellfish! I don't consider a $6 California Roll to be a great or even good "sale". Please Big Y, I shop almost exclusively at your supermarket. Either offer rolls that have some actual seafood in them, or change the wording in your advertising to be transparent. read more

Like most of the people here I think this store is very nice. They have some really good sales and the store is clean and well arranged. The prepared foods are good as much as I have tried. I really came here to tell people about the fried haddock and fish they sell here. Most people would never think of coming here for fried fish but I have to say that their fish is excellent, possibly the best I have had. It has a light batter with a good taste and is very fresh. I highly recommend trying this out. I have had fish at a few Big Y's and it has been great every single time. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well. read more

Such a beautiful store! Very clean, helpful employees, and an excellent selection! My boyfriend and I love the freshly prepared sushi. I normally get their veggie roll or sweet potato roll and my boyfriend gets their sashimi platters. Great prices for high quality sushi! Pro tip: come here on Wednesday's for $5 sushi! (Doesn't apply to all rolls, just select ones) I love their gluten free/plant-based section too! They have an great variety of different proteins, vegan cheeses, snacks, condiments, and more! This store has an amazing produce section too! You can buy mushrooms by the pound and they are significantly less expensive than the packaged options. Big Y, you have my heart. read more

Big Y or Big Why . I am giving this supermarket a Big F not sure if the company doesn't like people of color or it's just this particular store here in Milford. Here is my experience about a year ago I was hit by a car in the parking lot I was coming out of the store and was rammed by a car I wound up being transported to the hospital at no time did anyone from this store come outside to check on their customer nor call 911. I was fortunate enough to have someone come to my aid while I waited in pain for the ambulance to come. Meantime, my shopping cart was overturned and I lost most of my groceries as both myself and the cart were smashed by the driver. As time went on I never received any contact or concern from the company or the management at this particular store. At this point I am totally upset that I as an elderly black female was not contacted so I have to ask myself was this racial ?? My rating for this store in my town is a negative 5 stars . read more

Great store, super helpful staff who are knowledgeable and courteous. However, the sushi dept has taken a turn for the worse. Used to go here for sushi and then would end up buying more groceries while there. Last 3 times the sushi quality has dropped. Don't know what happened. Rice is overcooked / dry, fish is smaller and thin, avocados are hard and yellow. Container had no soy sauce and there's hardly enough ginger/wasabi for half the sushi so you have to buy separate containers of these which are oversized so you end up throwing more than half away. Will definitely go to BigY if I'm in Milford, but no more extra sushi trips. read more

Came to pick a quick lunch up to take back to the office. Ordered 3 sandwiches with a very flustered and overwhelmed associate. We waited over 25 minutes for 3 very simple paninis. We had more to order but ended up going to a nearby deli that had us in and out in under 5 minutes. Unwrapped the panini and it was subway quality chicken, overly crusty bread. After a few bites they all went in the trash. I'll never step foot in this store again, even to just pick up some basics. read more

My fried shrimp and chips were excellent. My son had the Fisherman's platter which he enjoyed as well. Need to wait a bit while they prepare it to order so you know it has not been sitting under a heat lamp . Totally worth it. read more

Though I wanted to love this inviting store with its HUGE aisles and squeaky clean appearance, I found it sadly lacking in any other redeeming qualities. For starters, some prices seemed preposterously high - $24 for nuts for example - while others seemed more reasonable but overall I felt like I was probably paying more for the same items I could get at Stop and Shop. Also, the store does not make any accommodation if you don't sign up for a discount card. This was especially frustrating when I went through self check, only to be informed that I could not get any discount without signing up for the card. This necessitated voiding out the items that had been scanned, standing in line, signing up for a card, then having it NOT work. After extensive debate among crew members, no viable solution was presented and I ended up solving the issue myself. I feel as though they are not customer oriented and the inefficiency and wasted time made me want to avoid this store like the plague in the future. read more

Very clean store that is well organized. I have asked for assistance finding things, and every staff member has been friendly and courteous. I love all of the prepared food options and that they carry some local business products, like Zuppardis frozen pizza, Durante's pasta and Ridge Runner soaps. This grocery store is relatively new to the area, what sets it apart is the prepared foods section. Their quality food at affordable prices makes Big Y a no brainer as you are planning your next BBQ, family party or other gathering. Their pizza is surprisingly good for a grocery store and it can feed a crowd. Their produce is fresh and the whole store is spotless. We love Big Y! read more

Very clean store. All the workers seemed very polite, friendly and helpful. The food is excellent and the fish and chips live up to the hype. A worker helped my wife load her groceries into her car (a service no other nearby supermarket has), and although they lacked a few items, I seem to find everything okay. I had a bad experience at this Big Y location. They will not give me a discount membership card because I am visiting from out of town. And I had to pay everything at full price even though there are discounted items. This seems to be misleading/deceitful marketing practice. I will not come to this location. read more

Saw that Big Y in Milford ct had a Corned Beef reuben sub for $8.99 or the sandwich for $5.99,Stoped in for one for lunch,,,The first thing i was told that the sandwichs were premade and in the the refrig section and there were none there. The guy making the sandwich went in the back and found one that didnt look good at all,Come on who really wants a Cold Corned beef sandwich...So my friend and i got him to make the sub version fresh,But we want the sauerkraut on the side ,The big y worker didn't know if he could do it..Now mind you; big y has this area where i am standing to make all different king of subs,It took him a while to ask if this was ok,he came back and said yes,After all this the subs were made,And how did the taste....TERRIBLE...If i wasnt allready driving i would have ask for my money back..But the seagulls ate it....It was the worse corned beef sub ever with the worse big Y sandwich maker...!!!!!!! read more

I have been going to this grocery store since it's opening day Nov 7th. I had high expectations as we moved from CA back in April & all of the local grocery stores have been very disappointing. This store is much better, but still needs some changes. You can't buy individual full size carrots. The broccoli is always soft, never firm & crisp. They don't have jicama. I do love being able to make my own small tomato basket. Everything is clean & in a nice order. There isn't much of a selection for prepackaged individual salads. Check the expiration dates on everything. The pre packaged fresh fruit by Big Y sold us watermelon that expired a week before. It looked great but had an odd taste, that's what made me look at the expiration date. They only sell Kind bars in boxes so you can't mix & match the flavors you like without buying in bulk. They are lacking baggers. I go to the store twice a week and only 1 time has a person actually bagged my groceries. I have had to do it myself every other time. There is still room for improvement here. read more

I waited a bit to check this place out after the grand-opening. I've been there 3 times now in the past week, and so far I'm pleased! Very clean, spacious, well-lit. There is definitely an attention to detail at this store! My husband does the weekly shopping & said prices are generally comparable to Stop & Shop. All the employees (& General Manager) are VERY friendly & helpful, except for the young girl at Customer Service. I like the little local products featured (soap, pasta sauce, salsa) etc. Feels like a neighborhood grocery, but with all the major brands too. I have only been there between 8:30 - 10:00AM, and it was not busy at all (I hope this doesn't mean it's not gong to be successful). One complaint is that the cappuccino, and also the hazelnut coffee machine was out of order; for a new store I was surprised they were already not working. I do plan to go back again for certain, and I hope others give it a try. read more
