****Pizza Shop Only Review**** Been getting pizza in the Big Y Pizza Shop for years. Myself and many other pizza lovers I know will arguably say this is the best pizza in Enfield. The pizza here is a complete package, crust, sauce, cheese, whatever toppings you desire and price. An 18" two topping pizza is only $17.99! As of 8/22/25. Many people find it hard to believe that Big Y has phenomenal pizza......and as an added bonus the service is quick and always pleasant with me. I always take my pie home but they have a small, quaint eating area up front by the registers. They also sell pizza by the slice if you only want a slice or two. The store in Enfield has the most inept Meat Manager I've ever run across. As a former grocery store manager if I had a manager that ran out of a special EVER time it's advertised, I would replace that manager quickly. Every time Bell and Evans chicken breasts are advertised for $4.99lb they run out. Since they are out on a Tuesday morning and the sale goes thru Wednesday, I'm sure they were out on Monday also. That's why I went on Tuesday, because they never have it on Monday. Why he doesn't order enough is beyond me. They are a popular item and would easily sell thru shortly. SELLS EXPIRED FOOD. I really only care about baby food and frozen foods so to buy something that says the expiration date was a year ago is truly sad. They don't rotate their stock here. I buy other brands of peanuts than hampton farms. I like to eat them while I feed the squirrels. Hampton peanuts are not good at all. Leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Can you research a different brand of peanuts in the shell? Thank you for your consideration. read more

I am alarmed at the Big Y radio ad telling people they fry their seafood in Canola oil with no trans fats. In order for that to be true, it would have to be Expeller Pressed Canola, because Monsanto's hexane extracted oil is most definitely a huge trans fat. Couple that with the fact that Monsanto developed its Canadian oil to be resistant to Round Up...well, you the consumer decide if you think this is a good thing. Please Big Y, you are one of the more caring supermarkets, please use a non-GMO, more stable oil like Sustain--an oleic sunflower oil and then advertise that you do not use the highly hydrogenated Canola. read more

Avoid the clam strips. They're clumpy, overbreaded, fried in dirty oil, and gross. Before writing this review, I've given them more than enough chances to get it right. I've spoken to several managers to express my concerns. I've never had an issue with any seafood order at the Wilbraham location. read more

I understand that there's not a large population of asians here but I felt extremely disgusted today thanks to the manager who literally went the extra mile to discriminate against me. My husband and I were buying some groceries and beer. (Which BTW we have been doing every week for months since we've moved to Enfield- at this very store with NO PROBLEMS) I went to go get some extra stuff so my husband was checking out. (He did not have his ID b/c his wallet was in my purse) When I got to the checkout, the manager was kind of waiting at the check out lane. (Not sure why because my husband in my opinion looks wayyyy over 21) Albeit I do look young and as I said previously, white people tend to not be able to tell my age. I can understand that you may think I'm under 21 but if I show you a VALID (literally a CT ID not even a foreign or other state ID), the first thing out of your mouth shouldn't be, "This can be a fake ID so I need you to sign this form". Well then why don't you call the DMV office in Enfield, CT which is where I got this ID a couple weeks ago and confirm. Do you need a blood oath and my SSN too? I don't understand how signing an "age form", helps the store from liability...and to literally bluntly tell me in front of my face that this ID looks fake makes me look like I am a liar. It was extremely embarrassing as there were 5000 people behind me waiting to check out. He kept stating over and over that I look like I'm 15, I don't believe it blah blah- I don't give a crap what you "think" I look like- my ID LITERALLY tells you that I am 30 this year. How else can I PROVE to you that I am over 21??? I honestly didn't say anything to him because people were staring but I was feeling like I did something wrong and was getting punished for something that's not in my control (MY RACE). I truly hope this manager is satisfied that he ruined my day and I look forward to NEVER returning to this store or any other Big Y for the kind of treatment that I received today. If you are white, please feel free to go to this establishment and I'm sure you'll be treated fairly. If you are any other race especially asian, DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE. Manager just looks for ways to discriminate like a vulture around the check out lanes. I truly feel bad for my cashier and bagging guy because I could feel their embarrassment at how I was being treated and they apologized to me which was nice. Big Y, if you read this, please fix this manager and maybe teach him some respect and manners. Honestly, truly the WORST grocery experience of my life. read more

Such friendly staff!!! Truly made my day and made me laugh. The best check out cashiers, I truly appreciate that, instead of people that seem miserable being there. They have a great selection, and items you can always find on sale! The check out was super fast no wait today which was great!! I appreciate not having to go to several different stores to make a meal! The bread was fresh nice and hot to the touch and at a great price! I feel like they always have the most friendly staff of any grocery store! Their produce is always fresh too, I know at some stores I've been to it's been looking a bit iffy, but not here! read more

Pizza shop is awful - 90 minute wait if you call - if they even answer!! We have complained to management and every time we do the wait time seems to disappear - but this means you have to call and ask for a manager.... We have switched to the East Windsor Big Y now for all of our pizza orders and there is NO wait!! Plus they answer the phone and are NICE!! Go to any other Big Y than Enfield. The store manager is condescending and not helpful. He takes nothing seriously and couldn't care less of your concerns or problems. With all of the problems we face today, shopping at Big Y Enfield should not be one of them. As a long time shopper who has frequented the store since it opened, I can not justify going there any longer. They are not consistent in what they carry, and if you inquire they just give you an answer to pacify you, without actually helping. I am done there. This is my favorite Big Y because it has remained smaller so I don't have to walk miles to shop. Bigger is NOT always better. Been coming here for so many years that many of the staff are like friends. The produce department is exceptionally immaculate, as well as the rest of the store, and I like the fact that they often buy from local farmers and feature these items up front and also have a sizable organic department. The prices are many times lower than the larger chains in this area. I hope they never decide to enlarge this store, for it's just the perfect size to shop for my tired old feet. read more

I shopped at Big Y this evening and I was blown away by the service! My first stop was the hot food area. The item I was going to purchase had 2 different prices so I asked the first person I saw which price was correct. He said he was not sure (I guessed that it was not his department but he didn't say that it wasn't), but he would tell someone who could help me. He walked over to the person in charge of that department, pointed out who I was and the issue at hand. The young man in that department replaced the bag and printed out the price that was labeled and scannable. Next, over to the Deli counter. The lady behind the counter cut my cheese to the thickness I desired. I walked down several aisles and was amazed at how clean and neat the entire store was- from where I was walking I did not see anything out of place. On my next stop I needed someone taller than me to reach my item. The young man who came over to help me was just as friendly. Finally at the self-check out I was assisted by a young lady who also helped me. At this point, I asked to speak with a Manager who greeted me with a smile and a pleasant disposition. I had to tell him that my entire shopping experience was INCREDIBLE! Every person I encountered actually LOOKED at me, SMILED at me and was very friendly. It was clear they wanted to be where they were this evening. THAT is customer service. I should have rang that bell longer!! read more

There was a sign posted that said if I found the elf on the shelf hiding in the store I could go tell the service desk and they would give me a piece of candy. I am now back in CT from our winter in FL and am anxious to get to my BIG Y store. Senior day is especially pleasant when I can hum along to the "oldies" music. BIG Y, you don't know what you did when the genius who thought that one up, put it into action! I hear old men and woman singing in the aisles, doing a little wiggle and giggle. It's very pleasant and it puts everyone in a good mood. Thanks for the attention you give. I am also pleased with the selections, prices and attention everyone gives when you need to locate something. They stop what they're doing and either get it for you or lead you to it. The automatic discount with the Silver Coin membership for seniors is a real savings. And finally, the "slot" machine at the registers just gives it a little added fun at the end. Looking for a certain brand of yogurt. I didn't see what i was looking for. Saw the one of the grocery managers in an aisle. He directed me to a dairy department associate who walked me to the yogurt section. The dairy associate told me that the store no longer carries the vanilla flavor of Yoplait Greek 100 at the moment. To my surprise instead of something like "tough luck sir. Maybe try back at another time". He apologized & mentioned that he would get a plastic spoon. Then i could taste the Dannon oikos triple zero vanilla product his supervisor recommends. He handed me a unopened yogurt. Told me to open it at no charge & taste it to see if I like it. I loved it & bought a couple. World class Service definitely as advertised! read more

To everyone here in CT don't shop at Big Y SuperMarkets. And why is simple they are supposed to be a family owned chain that cares about their customers. But what does Big Y do, on August 1st Big Y is getting rid of plastic bags because the state of CT is going to start taxing plastic bags at 10 cents per bag starting August 1st. So Big Y is going to have paper bags instead, however Big Y is going to charge their customers 10 cents per paper bag which is unacceptable. Especially since Stop & Shop and Shop Rite are not going to charge customers 10 cents per paper bag. So that just shows me Big Y is just using this plastic bag tax to make more money off it's customers which is even more discusting. Big Y is supposed to be a full service grocery store. If they want us to bring our own bags for the groceries then we should bag the groceries as well. And on top of that since we will be bagging our own groceries why does Big Y need cashiers we customers can surely scan our own groceries over the barcode reader. So if Big Y wants to make more profit they don't need cashier's. read more

I'll start by saying Kim in the pizza shop is my favorite employee. She is friendly, outgoing, and makes a damn good pizza. The entire front end is friendly and I love this place. As for the customer service manager and Cindy in the pizza shop are absolutely god awful. Cindy told me it was impossible to make a certain pizza when she answered the phone which I know is not true because every other person has made it. Not only did she say that but she was just extremely rude. When I then went on to telling the customer service manager about Cindy she didn't have a care in the world about what I had to say. She thought my opinion was completely irrelevant to her day. So this place overall is great besides Cindy and the Customer service manager. read more

We always shop at Big Y in Enfield EVERY WEEK. Other than they NEVER have organic regular kale in stock, we never have problems, but this is the reason I may go back to Stop & Shop. I am writing this hoping they will better stock this produce. (and yes we find someone and ask usually to no avail) read more
