I used to work in the East End of Glasgow and could not believe it when I came across this little…read moreboutique! It sticks out like a sore thumb amongst the greasy spoon cafés and sun bed centres! It looks really lovely inside with nice dark wooden flooring and everything is so neat and tidy. If you have ever seen the episode of Cribs where they look at Mariah Carey's New York apartment, Cocoberry looks like her dressing room! You feel like you are really in a giant, well organized wardrobe rather than a shop! Imagine my disappointment then when I had a look at the actual stock itself and was pretty disappointed. I thought I might find something really unusual and quirky. Maybe I'm getting old but I just found a lot of it pretty trashy. There was the odd nice little dress but nothing which said, "BUY ME! BUY ME NOW!" The dresses were exactly the same in style as you could find in any high street chain store, except more expensive. Loads of girls will love Cocoberry and I really can see why. The dresses they sell look like dresses I see girls wearing in clubs and bars on a Saturday night. Unfortunately I am just a 1950s Betty through and through and didn't find anything to suit my personal taste.

Lovely their stock may be, however I find this place a little pricey for it's less than glamorous location. However, I think Cocoberry might be positioning itself as a little corner of cool amongst the dingy Dennistoun streets, perhaps as the ultimate place to treat yourself to that to-die-for dress, a place to splurge and indulge in some serious retail therapy. Throwing swipe at the credit crunch, this place offers the ultimate in tempting attire, making it a very clever coco indeed.

I had the opportunity to speak with the team who have brought Saint Genevieve to life and their genuine and heartfelt commitment to bring sparkle to the the East End had me all gooey inside. While you Yelpers will know I'm more Snaffled-From-Oxfam than Designer-Vixen, I instantly loved the eclectic mix of styles, vibrant colours, ultra-feminine shapes and edgy embellishments on pieces all lovingly gathered from smaller/independent brands. From simple cardis and blouses to all-out-sequinned-green-and-candy-floss-pink mini dresses, a lot of thought has been put into this collection. As a curvy girl who LIVES AND DIES in midi length, the hem lines are too high for me - but I realise that Wednesday Adams is not everyone's modesty barometer. So, if you're off to Tibo or drooling for Dennistoun Bar-B-Que - or just on the hunt for a super cute party frock - be sure to pop into Saint Genevieve; a welcome dazzler now home on Duke Street.

As a family, we have always loved the world of fashion and what better way to exhibit that than celebrating independent brands and sharing them with the rest of Glasgow. The vibrancy of the East End, holds a dear place in our heart as our family grew up here and Saint Genevieve only adds to the blossoming cultural surroundings. An excellent addition to the east end, Simply Swap is a community initiative designed to reduce waste and recycle unwanted items, and the other amazing thing about it is that no money changes hands - it's all free! Shoppers simply bring along their own unwanted clothes, bags or shoes and exchange them for the same amount of items that previous swap-shoppers have brought in. I have been the swap shop's biggest fan since it opened and I'm constantly amazed by the things I find, which include a Zara mac, countless vintage dresses, vintage brogues and a lovely pair of Topshop heels which originally cost £62! I'm constantly recommending this place to family and friends, and it's well worth a visit to see what you can find, whilst recycling unwanted items. It really is true that one's trash is another's treasure and the swap shop is a wonderful wee trove of treats that allows you to reuse, recycle and rejoice at your finds.

It's quite a small shop with a counter to the left and behind the counter tubs/jars of lots of different types of old fashioned style sweets. Also on the counter and to the right they have some more 'modern' sweets (if that's even a thing!) and also some American sweets too. I was happy to see they had Halloween themed sweeties in the form of witches fingers & brain gummy sweets, milk chocolate skulls, a BIG chocolate pumpkin (which I really wish I'd bought now!) and some rather cool Stay Puft marshmallow man & Slimer from Ghostbusters lollies! We had to get one. The shop seemed to be ran by a lady and her 2 sons (?) helping her which I thought was very sweet (*groan*) but also I only know too well how horribly tempting it is as a kid to just help yourself to the delicious stock when your parent/s run/own a shop that sells sweeties! My poor Dad must've always wondered why he got through SO much stock...oops! :-) Prices are pretty good ~ you pay per 100g for the loose sweets. They also have a really good selection. I think they sell Slush Puppy style drinks too...I may be wrong as I was in a bit of a sugartastic zone when I was in there. It says on their Facebook page they sell hot drinks too. Also they make up 'Sweetie Sprays' which is a big basket of assorted sweets/chocolate for 'parties' (errr...YOURSELF!) for £14.99. They're open Mon-Sat, 9-5pm. If you're in the area and you happen to be one of them Sweet Shop Avengerz then get yourself in here. It's okay if you're teeths get damaged as there's a dentist pretty much next door! Sorted.

So an hour before the party I was wandering down duke street when I came across 535 Duke Sweet , a traditional sweet shop with a modern twist. They had various hand made gifts available to take there and then. I settled on a sweetie spray that was packed with retro sweets and lots of chocolate.( at £14.99 was a steal). The girl even put a personalised message on the box .( at no extra charge ) The gift went down exceptionally well and was even sat on the dinner table as a centre piece. Great shop will be spreading the word.
