Anyway, I got a flat and could not change the tire. I went to three auto parts places and bought the size (thin-walled socket) that would fit in there. None of them worked!! A friend suggested Repurpose/Reuse spot. I went in there, and explained it to the attendant. He found a box of mismatched sockets, and I bought two of them FOR A DOLLAR EACH!! It worked!! I was so happy!! Next time I am coming here first!! I also want to go back and check out their tools and other stuff that I did not have time to look at!

My artist daughter was visiting, so took the long drive to visit the store…read more The parking lot is 1. dangerous, 2. hard to find the first time *especially in high traffic times, which is when we showed up. Our experience was a mixed bag. No greetings. No introductions. I was there for a sewing machine as mine ended up in storage in another state. Finally found a clerk willing to help me out, did the paperwork and actually was rejected for the payment plan. Zero redirect to the reconditioned machines as a possibility, which my daughter had found when we split up. *I only mention the rejection because we left, went to another store who used the exact same company for payment plans and was approved in minutes & walked out with what could easily be described as a higher value machine (&yes, price) in no time. Back to this store. I have no idea the organization of this store. I'm more of a clothes maker than quilting, but really only found formal wear materials and some others. Also buttons, but kinda sparse selections. I usually sew church clothes & work clothes but also other random items like pj's. All that to say, it didn't come across as a fabric store where a variety of styles are supported. I was persona non grata after my "denial" so the items I was purchasing outright got put back. I didn't have the plague & I had cash. Just not $3k+ in cash. Unsure how the business stays afloat as this is not a way to attract repeat business. My daughter saw how I was ignored and put her items back as well. Question for the owner. Is this a common style of customer service that you want to present? Why did the other shop offer a payment plan with the exact same company for a higher priced item than your store did?

Michael's is a problem. When Joann's fails me, I go to Michael's. It used to be the other way…read morearound. Joann's wasn't my first choice but since Gainesville opened its remodeled and enlarged Joann's, I've pretty much broken up with Michael's. Michael's used to have the neat coupons but now Joann's is throwing discount after discount at me. I go up to the cashier and I have three 20% off coupons for the entire purchase, including sale items sometimes. Michael's it's one coupon for one item. But it's not just about price, it's also about customer service and the associates' knowledge of the products. If I need something specific that I'm unsure about, I will wait until I can visit a town with. a Blick's Art Supply shop. If I'm desperate I go to SOMA. That's the problem with Michael's. The folks who work at Michael's don't necessarily know what you need. At worst, some of the associates barely know where the easiest stock is located much less something like Golden's GAC 900. I used to go to Michael's a lot but stopped because the associates were just so rude. I asked about an item and the associate said she didn't have it. I said I had looked online and the store supposedly had that product in stock. She told me that they didn't carry the product even after that. I asked if she could look it up on inventory and she said that they didn't have a way to check what was in stock in the store. Um how is that even possible? And that was basically the beginning of my break up with Michael's. I go in periodically but it's no longer my go-to store. I wish we could get a Blick's. I need to go back to SOMA.

One day while waiting to have my fabric cut, Phil caught me eyeing a Juki. I wasn't looking for a new machine at the time, but he offered a demonstration including how to proper thread it and adjust tension (my nemesis!), then gave me a stack of scrap material to play around with. After about 20 minutes he asked how I liked it. I said it was amazing. He then said my favorite words, "and it's on sale." Sold!
