Missoula is a small town - so I keep wanting to give this shop which is blocks from my house the benefit of the doubt, so I keep going back. This shop was the only one within like 200 miles that had a mountain bike available for me. They put it together and let me take a test ride. I bought the bike and asked for help not only securing it to my car but also setting up the mount...in the rain. After we decided it wouldn't fit, Allison helped me take off the front wheel and load the bike into my car. This was fat above and beyond and greatly appreciated. If you have a warranty issue on a bike you buy there, even if it is a brand they carry, you will be charged for labor to fix the problem. I bought a Borealis complete back when they were a Borealis dealer and broke the frame. Manufacturer agreed warranty applied and the shop charged me $113 to do the labor. If you bought a kids bike on the trade up program, they may tell you that it ends at 24" bikes. I brought my daughter's bike in to do the last trade up and the salesperson told me I had no further trades to make. The deal actually goes all the way up to 26 or 27.5. Stick to your guns and they will eventually relent. It's a great deal and a great program, but I felt put off having to argue about it to take advantage of the original agreement. read more

I needed a rear gripshifter replacement. Noone in town had only one side except Big Sky. I installed it myself but It didn't work quite right. It wouldn't move the derailleur far enough. I brought the bike in for them to look at. Ben (I think) immediately put it on the stand and went to work on it. In the process he figured out that it was the wrong part from Schram but not marked. I bought a Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Expert Carbon 29 there 2 years ago. Because they wouldn't discuss pedal-assist bikes, I subsequently bought a 2019 Specialized Turbo Levo FSR Comp 29 in Tucson. I live in Missoula and needed to have the gears adjusted on the Levo (it was self-switching between 1st and 2nd). Although I've been a loyal customer who's bought a carbon bike there along with many accessories, they told me to come back in a couple weeks. Huh. read more

Super friendly/helpful staff. I regularly visit from out of town, and this is my "go to" shop. I've been to other shops in town, but Big Sky has the best prices and best service, and a very good inventory. The staff is very helpful in recommending local riding routes when I rent a bike for the day. This is a shop run by cyclists, for cyclists! read more

Brought my bike in for a schedule tune up. Showed up at 10 am to drop it off and they took it in and said they would call me with a pick up time by the end of the day. By 4 pm they hadn't called me so I called them since they close at 6 pm. They told me my tune up actually supposed to be for the following day. They never bothered to tell me that when I dropped it off or at least call me to tell me that. So asked them if they were going to keep it overnight and to get a time when it would be done the following day. They couldn't give me a definite time. The miscommunication on the original service time was their screw up so the least they could do is make sure my bike was the first to be serviced the next day. However, they just came across as disorganized and clueless. So I will he taking my bike elsewhere for service. read more

I feel somewhat compelled to write this just based on some of the more critical reviews. I can tell you I'm in no way associated with this business nor do I know anyone who works here. I didn't buy my bike here but my 2018 Specialized Enduro needed a rear shock service and both Evan and Evan were fantastic. Not only did they get my bike in and out in 24 hours but they were more than helpful answering questions I had about my specific shock. They were never condescending or "too busy" to deal with my questions. I'm very happy with their service and look forward to frequenting their shop again in the future. read more

Over a week period, I had two tires changed and purchased a bike cable lock. Three visits. Felt as if I had invaded someone's living room for the cold reception. No, "Hi! How can we help?" Not even an offer to hold the door as I wheeled my bike out. The young man with the russet beard was passively aggressively cold, if not actually rude. Maybe if your bike is a status bike they treat you better; my vintage cruiser and I must have been trash whose money they would take but whose return they dread. So I won't. And don't recommend you take the risk either. read more

Not impressed. I went in to the south ave location to ask questions about replacing some parts on my bike. The gentleman that I primarily dealt with wasn't really very friendly. He did offer to order some parts, but he really acted like I was bothering him for the entire few minutes I was there. Then, when I said I would have to leave and come back he turned around and walked away. I didn't spend much time looking, but they did appear to have a pretty extensive selection of high end bikes and a nice shop, but they should probably brush up on their people skills for those not looking to drop 1000s on new gear read more

Bought a replacement crank (was not in box). Shouldn't have thrown out receipt, but not sure it would have mattered anyway. Turned out to have stripped pedal threads. Owner said we didn't sell you a stripped crank - several times. Though I had visa statement in hand, he couldn't find me in his computer. Said as far as he's concerned, the sale didn't happen. Said he would figure out what was going on, but they had not sold me a stripped crank. Implied strongly I was making something up. Some back and forth continues and I say "this is pretty bad customer service." He then marches to the front door, opens it, gestures for me to leave and says "I don't need you as a customer." Great bikes and fantastic service. I wanted to test ride a couple of bikes before I purchased and it was so easy to take a demo ride since there is a bike trail right out the door. They carry a lot of different bikes but the sales staff helped me understand the differences and I found a bike that fit me perfectly. read more
