It literally was the place to be back in the day. I've seen the changes throughout the years, and I think it's still a great place to hang out. They've remodeled, and there are new stores and restaurants. There aren't many malls in the area now. There were other ones to visit back then, but they're all gone now. So, it's nice to know this one is still standing strong for the community. By the way, there are two Chick-fil-A's in the Mishawaka area. We prefer to come to the one in University Park Mall because it's less busy. Both are busy places, but this one isn't as congested. I'm also glad to see Barnes and Noble in this mall. With many book stores closing, I don't get to find one too often. On the weekends, it's hard to find parking, but honestly, it has been that way since I was growing up.

Customer service is practically non-existent. The last two times I was in the store and had a…read more"where is..." question, the responses were 1) I have no idea; and 2) I don't work in that department. Both of these empoyees were 30+ years old. I quit this store (on Grape Rd) for a while because I was so frustrated by operations. Guess I need to not give them my business anymore, as it apparently isn't needed.

However, it had still put a pending charge on my card, so I couldn't leave without my items I had possibly paid for. Ended up having to wait 45-60 minutes for the system to finally start working again, and the employees and managers were completely useless and unwilling to work something out. Once the system finally came back up, they scanned the items and made me pay again, and for compensation I got a lousy "sorry for the inconvenience."

Gabe's is basically a cooperate run rummage sale. Their business model is low margins on high volumes. Gabe's attracts about 50% normal customers and about 50% lowest of the low ghetto rats and White trash. They look at an article of clothing and then just throw it down, either on top of the racks without bothering to re-hang it properly or actually down on the floor. On a Saturday you will see DOZENS IF NOT HUNDREDS OF PIECES OF MERCHANDISE JUST THROWN ON THE FLOOR!!! Creating a scene that seems unbelievable that this is a corporate-run retail business! The worst of the customers let their children run wild in the store playing with merchandise, BREAKING MERCHANDISE, and generally acting as though a trip to the store is their substitute for not being able to afford Disney World or Chuckie Cheese. The children and the parents both act as though they have had no decent upbringing or learned social skills. And YES, this does pertain to a review about Gabe's because this is the atmosphere of the store if you decide to shop there. Much of the chaos stems from poor management. The will even sell BROKEN OR OTHERWISE DAMAGED MERCHANDISE just to get SOMETHING, ANYTHING out of it!!!...and this may or MAY NOT be clearly labeled as damaged. Like the old saying goes, the fish always rots from the head down. The employees are over-worked and stressed-out to the point of not caring. Let's just say that I have some insider knowledge of all this. Gabe's is a bottom-of-the-barrel retail operation. Yes, occasionally you may find a good bargain, but know what to expect inside their store.

If all JC Penney sent the clothes that they couldn't sell to 2 or 3 JCPenneys, and then those sent the clothes they couldn't sell to this JCPenneys that might be close to what we're looking at....
