This is a great store to get anything from food to home decor! They currently have an assortment of fall/Halloween decor at reasonable prices. They also had full couch sets which I had never realized before. I would definitely come back here for snacks or to browse and see what items spark my interest. The checkout line was pretty long when I went but the cashier noticed and called for back up which was nice. read more

It's very easy to go crazy in Big Lots. They have everything under the sun for pretty much everyone. It is very hard not to go browsing in each aisle. I found myself placing a lot of items in my cart that I wouldn't be able to carry via public transportation. In search of a new apartment I am convinced that Big Lots is where I will spend most of time to buy items to decorate my apartment with. They have a lot of furniture such as dining, bedroom sets, and sectionals. I found and fell in love with a grey L-shaped sectional. It was soft to the touch and extremely comfy. They also have a small 3 piece folding dining table set that comes with two bar chairs. It's perfect for a small apartment or room. I'd use it to entertain guests by placing alcoholic beverages, glasses, and bar accessories on it. read more

I stopped into this store once years ago when it first opened to see what it was all about. It reminded me of Family Dollar...maybe a tad bit better. I never came back. Recently I had two friends from out-of-state tell me about how they shop at Big Lots for all sorts of things and one friend who just moved to Jersey from another state and really loves it. So I gave it another try. I really TRIED to like it and find items there which were good buys. I came back 3 times now when I have had a short list of items I would usually get at CVS or Target. Each time the things I wanted were out of stock or not available at all. Now I want to state that these were not obscure items--they were things like Cottonelle wipes. coffee stirrers, votive candles, Finish dishwasher pacs. In some cases I saw the shelf tags where the things were supposed to be, but they just didn't seem to restock the items week after week. I did take some time to look at other things in the store. The home section contains some useful items but also a lot of pretty low-quality textiles (all made in China) and home decor. Nothing special or interesting in the least. Everything was very reasonably-priced but also relatively low-quality. Same with the seasonal department. The grocery section contains only the most super-processed of foods. I think perhaps I am not the target Big Lots customer, or else maybe this particular Clifton store is just not the best Big Lots out there. I will not be back. read more

Came here on Thanksgiving after dinner since almost ALL stores were closed or closing early, this big lots was open till 9pm! They had great sales 20% Christmas Decor & trees, and 50% off Toys! Some of best Holiday Decor I've seen such a big, modern and stylish selection. Also got a lot of toys for my little one and of course mini brand series 2! I've always wanted to go to Big Lots from seeing the commercials on tv. Well I have a phrase I use--"make it like it's something good"--that's exactly what the commercials did. When I saw BL coming up on the highway, I got so excited--but when I walked in, blech... Don't know how old you are but there used to be...and yes, I know I'm dating myself, but there used to be stores like Kmart but not as good a selection and not as high end (and yeah, I know Kmart IS NOT high end!)...they called them "five and dime" or "5 & 10"--Woolworth's, McCory's, Ben Franklin. That's pretty much what Big Lots is... Cheaper than Target, Walmart, Kmart but more than the dollar store and yes, they do have some of the same items. Items range from irons and sewing machines to furniture to health & beauty, food & seasonal. Shopping strategy: Don't go into Big Lots looking for something. Let something find you! read more

I went today... I just moved so I was looking around the whole store looking for new stuff. The place is great and I had a great time shopping... Then when I was heading to my car I realized I didn't have my car keys with me!!!! I rushed back into the store and started retracing my steps trying to find my keys.... The staff was very helpful and an special shout out to Kayla who went out of her way to actually find my keys... I am so greatfull she saved my day. read more

I really enjoyed my visit exploring Big Lots. I have to admit I keep forgetting this store exists. I am not sure that is a good or bad thing because I went shopping with the intention of spending approximately 30 bucks for kid gifts and ended up spending 85. There is a dollar tree right next door which was extremely convenient because I needed gift bags. I ended up dropping another $15 in the dollar store & spent a total of $100. I did pick up 2 kids toys & gift bags, so that was good. The toy selection wasn't great but I found the 2 toddler gifts I needed. So what else landed in my cart? Well there was a seriously discounted wall decor section so 2 items which will be gifted were snagged for 10% of their retail value. I probably should have picked up more. I found a nice selection of shower curtains, liners and rings to spruce up our bathroom. I also found an isle of kitchen gadgets and a set of tableware small tongs for $4 jumped into my cart. There were some nice deals on slow cookers and small appliances but I left those for someone else. I did find some nice kitchen storage containers. The snack food section was pretty big but you need to know your prices. There.was furniture and mattresses in the back of the store which surprised me. In the pet section I found a big bag of Purina Cat food for $8.50 which we needed so I got that. I had filled my cart and bunch of misc. items jumped in when I wasn't looking so all in, $85 for a full cart isn't too bad. I did find many over priced items so not everything is a bargin but I had fun looking around, I think you will too. read more

Horrible experience with the store manager "Maria" She is a rude person who tried to lecture me in front of customers on how to shop appropriately. She was upset because I left my shopping cart unattended for less than 1 minute. She went on to say that she empties unattended carts to make her life easier at closing. It was only 3pm - nowhere near closing time. Long line with only 2 cashiers, she should have gone to help them instead of emptying customer carts on the floor. Not sure how someone so Unprofessional is trusted to run that store. I will never shop there ever again or at any Big lots store for that matter due to this incident. read more

Yes, times are tough. We're all feeling it now, but let me be frank about my frugality. I've always been cost-conscious. I bargain scientifically. (Ok, a bit anal here.) I calculate the gas wasted and the time spent before venturing out to a discount outlet that is a bit far away. Having said that, this trip to Clifton was worth it. Located in Bergen County 10 miles from George Washington Bridge, this Big Lots is the closest to NYC. You go to Elizabeth for Ikea, right? Clifton is closer. You see, I consume a lot of protein bars because I am always on the go. I need to eat something before I go to my yoga classes, to the gym and everywhere in between. Having moved back to NYC from Atlanta, I am still shocked at the cost of living here. I can't afford to eat out every day. Heck, I barely afford StarBucks coffee every day. Therefore, a protein bar works like magic. At this Big Lots, I found a pack of 8 meal bars manufactured by Slim Fast for $4. Usually, such pack costs more than $7.50 retail. I bought three packages. I also picked up two packages of International Coffee Delight, the creamer, $2.50 each. I bought a hair brush for $2.50 too because I want to have one in my gym bag. So if you're a Manhattanite with a car, fork over $8 in cash (or $6 with E-Z Pass or $2 if you have travel with two other people), cross Lincoln Tunnel and visit this retailer. Big Lots is amazing, I'm used to going to costco and I'm a firm believer in saving by buying bulk but sometimes you just want to buy the little things and Big Lots is the place to go. They have name brand items that usually cost twice as much at places like CVS or shop rite. Only problem I've encounter is that the aisles are narrow at a certain part of the store and you will have a hard time to maneuver. read more

I go here all the time especially for things for home decor and quick snacks or drinks. They recently got flooded and closed for a bit. I just want to say they reorganized and changed their layout. The first time i went there they had namebrand pens at bargain prices, and i stocked up on Signos for next to nothing. Some bargain furniture and cookies. Another plus is that there is a good dollar store right next to it, what you do not find in one you will see in the other. read more
