We had a pull-through with full hookups. There are restrooms, showers and laundry room available. The location is hard to beat--very close to Rhyolite Ghost Town and Death Valley National Park. It's right off the highway, but traffic was pretty light, especially at night, so it was surprisingly quiet. This is definitely more of a "park for a night or two and keep exploring" kind of place rather than a destination RV resort, but it worked perfectly for us. And apparently, wild burros occasionally make an appearance. We didn't get lucky enough to see any during our stay, but we did find evidence that they had recently stopped by (quickly cleaned up by staff.)

I stayed in the Asia room. It was very comfortable for a three night stay. Each morning they offer a tasty and satisfying hot breakfast. It's a great way to start your day into Death Valley, or wherever you are headed. The place is full of Peacocks, rabbits, and goat named Esmeralda. See pictures attached. The location is about 30 minutes outside of death Valley. It's about 25 minutes away from a small town called Beatty. Beatty offers services like gas a few restaurants and a few convenience stores. Be careful when driving around town. There are free range donkeys that roam the streets. They're really cute, but they move it their own pace. The stars here are pretty amazing. I brought my telescope and was glad I did. But even without a telescope, it's worth taking a glass of wine out to the backyard and just gazing into that black sky and soaking in the stars. Pro tip hit up the dollar store in town for supplies. Don't forget to grab a lot of water For your day(s) in Death Valley. Bonus pro tip - wake up early and catch the sunrise in the backyard.

I need to start by saying we didn't end up staying at the Shady Lady Bed and Breakfast because we…read morecancelled our trip but I still thought my pre-stay experience is noteworthy for other travelers.It started off fine after making a reservation online (through a third party booking site), the innkeeper, Nigel seemed pleasant and accommodating then, even agreeing to let me upgrade the room type from standard to private cabin and pay the difference on site on arrival.But when I needed to cancel, the experience turned from pleasant to unreceptive to outright rude. I just needed an email confirming that I canceled this reservation for travel insurance purposes and called to ask him if he would send that email to me. He agreed and took my information. I waited 24 hours to follow up when I hadn't received that email and to email him the next day, to make it easy for him to just respond to the email (something like yes this reservation has been cancelled would have worked fine for me, but after not getting an email response the next day, I called back to ask verbally again. He was extremely agitated right off the bat immediately after picking up the phone, recognizing my voice from previous calls, and sounded so irritated when I asked if he could respond to my email or send one out and he yelled "Look, I sent out the email yesterday. If you didn't get it, I don't know what to tell you. I've spent enough of my time on your reservation in the first place!" AND HUNG UP ON METhat was that. I don't understand how someone in the hospitality industry could act so hostily. l had plans to return there after canceling, but now I have no such intention just based on that experience (I guess I'll have to assume he feels the same about me). And think other travelers may want to be aware of this.

I opted to buy it through the kiosk that was located near the entrance. I went inside to check things out. With the park pass, I was given a map of Death Valley. In the lobby, they had a cool 3D map with buttons to light up the location of each area. They also had souvenirs and snacks for purchase. Off to the right was a small yet quite informative museum. Outside and off to the left were restrooms. Everyone working here was very nice, friendly, and helpful!

Stovepipe Wells is one of the two general aviation airports inside Death Valley National Park,…read morelocated in a small little town inside Death Valley called, you guessed it--Stovepipe Wells. It has about a 3,000ft paved runway accessible to smaller aircraft. There's no one manning this airport, you basically land - sign a notebook with your name, and put your national park pass in the plane. There's no rental cars nearby, so you're pretty much on your own once you land. Luckily, the small town is only a 10 minute walk away and there's an adjacent campsite right next to the field. The nearest attraction is the Mesquite Flats Sand Dunes, which are about a 2.5 mile walk from the airport along a state road. We ended up finding a nice couple that we met into town that offered to give us a ride there and enjoyed a nice Sunday picnic at the dunes. Recently in 2020, the NPS wanted a referendum on closing this airport and potentially making it into a stargazing area because I imagine the two airports inside the sweltering hot National Park are difficult to maintain. There seemed to be enough activism and will to keep them open for now, but I'd love if the NPS could find a way to blend the airport with a stargazing site and do both. All in all, it's definitely worth visiting for the adventurous aviators out there, but be prepared for the elements!

He made sure that I was safe as we climbed into position in the dark. I enjoyed learning about Death Valley and discussing photography with him. When I requested a change to our schedule so that we could photograph the wildflowers, he had no problem changing our plans for the day. He knew of great locations away from the crowds which made the day so much more enjoyable. I would definitely do another tour with him when I return to Death Valley.

An amazing little gem in the middle of nowhere in death valley. We came up from Shoshone in Death…read moreValley (the last town before you enter the valley) and trekked up rough terrain for about 3 hours until we finally came to Geologist's Cabin. There were already people occupied there and it was after 10 p.m. at night. At this point we just had to find a place to set up camp. We took the dirt path further for about 20 minutes and came up to an area with an old rusted gate that said "DO NOT ENTER." Of course, we entered. And I am glad we did. The cabin sits at the top of the hill, tucked next to a small water source and some trees. It was empty, clean, and full of supplies from the previous passer-byes. There is a nice main cabin, with a sink, running (trickling) water, a fridge used to store food, a furnace, and table and chairs. There is another cabin but less clean. Outside is a fire pit with grilling grate, some chairs, and plenty of landscape with roaming wild donkeys. Inside the fridge are a number of journals. Travelers have kept a log since about 2003, making entries every 4-7 days. It is fair to say there have been numerous visitors over the years, and all have been kind to clean up after themselves and leave a little something behind. We left coffee, dish and hand soap, a sponge, and some plates. The walls are filled with newspaper clippings and some other items that tell the history of the Andersons. It looks like the cabin was built sometime in the 1920s. The husband died, and Stella remained until she was in her 90s. Special side notes: - There terrain is very rough. I hardly made it in my Honda CRV. I wouldn't do it again. You will need a Jeep or Truck or ATV. - There are other cabins in the area as well that you can find. For instance, Russell's camp is about 20 minutes away on a trail from Stella's Cabin. It is huge with about 5 rooms, but it is not kept up as nice.

This place truly is a diamond in the rough. The location and views are perfect. Camped out there…read morewith some friends and cooked some awesome food while there. It can be a challenge getting here but well worth it. If you plan on staying here I recommend come early before some group claims it.
