Big Lake in City Park, in front of the museum is a peaceful walk. The chime tree is relaxing to do some stretching or yoga. The walk around is 3/4 of a mile. There is a place to rent group bicycles, kayaks. The tulips during February and at the beginning of March are beautiful to look at. Truly, a sight to behold. On any given day, you can see all sorts of people walking the path, enjoying the sights, having a picnic, practicing yoga or tai chi. Even just sitting on one of the many benches people and duck watching. The fountain in the middle of the lake is beautiful. The sounds from the chime tree are like magical fairies. This is well loved and well used by the community. I am very happy to have witnessed this beautiful site and to be able to use it any time I need or want to.

If you're visiting New Orleans and want to catch a real vibe beyond the usual tourist stops, this is where you go. The energy out here is unmatched. Bounce music floats through the air, blending effortlessly with old-school R&B playing from nearby speakers. The smell of crawfish boiling, charcoal burning, and chicken grilling travels with the breeze coming off the water. It's culture, community, and comfort all wrapped into one experience. Today we came out simply to relax and enjoy a weekend of perfect weather while digging into some crawfish -- and honestly, it doesn't get much better than that. And if crawfish isn't your flavor, you still have great options nearby. Landry's Seafood House remains one of my personal favorites, offering great food paired with some of the best waterfront views in the city. Whether you want to slow-cruise in your exotic car, take a peaceful walk along the water, or sit back and watch the boats sail by while reading a great book, the lakefront gives you space to do it all. Bike rides, jogs, family gatherings, or simply sitting still and letting the breeze reset your mind -- there's plenty to do here that requires absolutely nothing at all. The beauty of the lakefront is that no two visits feel the same. You can make it a multi-day experience and walk away with completely different memories each time depending on your mood. Some days it's music and laughter. Other days it's quiet reflection and sunsets. If you're looking for your own slice of paradise in New Orleans -- somewhere to relax, reset, and truly enjoy the moment -- make your way to the lakefront. Trust me, the vibe speaks for itself.

Always a great time at the lake with crawfish and a daiquiri. There's a lot of parking spread…read morearound the lake as well as places to eat.

So much fun to visit City Park in New Orleans on the first day of Spring. (It's actually one of the…read moreplaces that I visit almost every trip to New Orleans.) The park is sprawling. Covering 1300 acres, it is one of the largest urban parks in the US. Bike trails, walking trails, museums, restaurants, sculpture gardens, botanicals gardens and an amusement park for kids. What more could you want? Love art? Check out NOMA. This is often on my agenda. Love the rotating exhibits, Newcomb pottery and collection of impressionist paintings. I use my Graycliff annual pass for reciprocal admission fees. Bonus: One of my besties works here! Want art outdoors? The newly expanded sculpture garden is so beautiful and free to explore. Frank Stella. Yaacov Agam. Beverly Pepper. Take a photo with LOVE by Robert Indiana. Don't sit on Bear with Us by Frank Gehry. Feel free to walk across the Mississippi Meaders Bridge. Take a selfie in the Mirrors Labyrinth. Love to talk a walk here. Sorry, GiGi. No dogs allowed. Love flowers? If you are lucky, you may see tulips or wildflowers. Or visit the New Orleans Botanic Garden. It's also included on the Graycliff Martin annual reciprocal pass. The garden is filled with azaleas, camellias and beds of roses. Love the native Louisiana raised vegetable beds and the butterfly garden. Sit under the oaks on a park bench or a swing to take a rest. Like art? Explore the large collection of Enrique Alfarez sculptures spread throughout the garden. Hungry? Thirsty? This is the best place to visit Cafe du Monde. No lines and the parking is free and so much easier than the quarter. Order a cafe au lait or a hot chocolate with a plate of beignets. Then grab a table with a green umbrella outside to enjoy the sunshine and the famous oak trees in the park. City Park has one of the largest collections of Live Oak trees in the world. Have a kid? Or just feel like a kid? Storyland is so cute! Created by Mardi Gras float makers, it is a New Orleans classic full of whimsy. Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Mother Goose. It is filled with fairy tale and nursery rhyme classics. Fun fact: New Orleans City Park is one of the largest parks in the US. At 1,300 square acres it is almost twice as large as New York's Central Park which is just a little over 800 square acres and does not make the top twenty for size. (But Central Park is still amazing, too!) Parking is free. Or come by streetcar. It stops near NOMA. Thanks for the free flowers on the first day of spring.

It's very relaxing and a huge plus that you don't have to go far to feel surrounded by nature. There's always plenty of space and you can easily find a place to sit and unwind. For the ones that have no experience with it, we were quite scared. Some did not know how to swim, and some were afraid of the water. But after meeting Jeff, everyone's doubt eventually went away. He was one of the most friendliest, laid back instructor anyone can meet. Two of my friends originally backed out, but Jeff did some magic & made them feel comfortable that they both ended up finishing the paddle board session. We were proud of them, but thankful to Jeff for making them feel comfortable. And Jeff was so nice to help us take a group picture. We all took Uber to meet Jeff on the Bayou St. John, and the neighborhood was very peaceful and beautiful. There is no changing room, so make sure to wear appropriate attire. You can store your items at Jeff's SUV. And if you must run to the bathroom, there is a gas station very close by (a few steps away). It was quite cold when we were there for our 11:30 am session, but it eventually got warmer. If you can't swim, a life vest is offered. We all wore life vests, and not one of us fell into the bayou. Paddle boarding was very fun, and easy to learn. Thanks to Jeff for this wonderful experience. I am also offering my apologies for any inconvenience we gave him. Thanks for being patient with us. Highly recommended if you are visiting NOLA to give paddle boarding a try!

I say this because many people take their dogs down to the pavilion by the boat launch because that's where the hose is located. Keep your dog on a SHORT leash and beware of your surroundings. The Jefferson Parish Sheriffs Department was here, as was the city police, members of the morgue (the live ones that work there, not the dead ones you silly goose), the SPCA was there with some animals, and so much more. Ideas for home protection were popular booths here as well. There were also booths set up giving hot dogs and soda at no cost to the public. There was a live band on stage. Now lets get to the park itself. There is an area specifically for dog that is small but enclosed. There are picnic tables and a couple of boat launches. You can access the walking trail that extends along the south side of the waterfront. This is between the levy and the water of the lake, so I am sure they block it off during storms. Great place to go to for some family bonding time.
