I told them that the Americans with Disabilities Act requires them to admit me with my service dog. They physically barred me from entry nonetheless, because "some of their customer" might not like it. If you are a person with a disability who has a similar experience with Family Laundromat, please leave a record of it here so that others can establish a pattern of behavior. Business owners like this feel free to flaunt the law because the supposed watchdog agencies will do nothing, even when you file a well-documented complaint. Also, if you are a disabled person trying to establish a pattern of behavior, feel free to reach out and I will happily support you by attesting to my similar experience. Thirdly, whether you are a disabled person or not, please consider whether the actions on the part of Family Laundromat reflect your values. If not, consider frequenting a business that does. Nothing changes until people join together to insist on it. No one else is going to protect us from discrimination and illegal exclusion that makes an already challenging life even more difficult. The ADA was written to prohibit discriminatory and illegal actions like those committed by Family Laundromat. The cheapest wash is $2 but there are options as far as heavy wash etc,. Those are a little more, $2.25 or $2.50. There's a couple of guys that work there that will show you all of the machines if it's your first time there. They were very friendly and helpful. They also have change for the machines as well as soaps and softners though you are allowed to bring your own as well. I had actually forgotten something there and when I walked by the next day, one of the guys ran out and returned what I had left behind. Great service here. Parking is metered and some street parking a block or two away if you can find a spot. The bus and the subway are a block away as well.

She sees customers waiting and she continues eating her food slowly while you wait for her. She gives an attitude for every response she gives you. While there were new machines & dryers, the place was filthier than ever! There were about 4-5 other people and one attendant. So I was surprised at the state of the place. Like most laundromats, this place uses a card instead of coins. The card is $5 which seems standard. I used the older washing machines that were $5.50 for what I think was a double loader. The indicator lights weren't working. I also used the older dryers at .35¢ for 8 minutes. Clothes including hoodies dried (for the most part) after 4 rounds. They used to be 24 hours, but no longer. Tuesday and Thursday nights they close at 10 and reopen in the morning. I drive to Jamaica ave from south ozone park just because this place has a parking lot! I always get the spot in front the door. It's always bright and clean inside. You see the employees constantly sweeping and tiding up the place. The employees are very friendly (minus the one older Guyanese woman that stares me down like I'm stealing my own blankets), Rupa and Sharon are sweethearts. There's free wifi and it actually runs smoothly. It's run entirely on laundry cards, so there's no more annoying quarter counting. There's also many TVs playing various stations. They offer drop off/ pick up service and sell laundry bags, detergent etc. Around the laundromat has a Chinese food spot, an Indian- curry spot, Matty's deli and a few convenient stores. There's also walgreens, planet fitness, Starbucks, Jamaica hospital and the E train within walking distance. I would've gave them 5 stars, but today a lot of machines were on the fritz (Sharon did give me 35 minutes in the dryer for free-to rectify a faulty washer soaking my blankets instead of spin drying them) and since they're located on Jamaica ave; they do have the occasional homeless and crazy people stopping in.
