absolutley without doubt the best fish and chip shop in Rugby.they also won best fish and chip shop…read morei think in 2005 that they still go on about now.but that does not bother me cos if you have it flaunt it!!! They do great deals also, they do a selection called the meal deals which have some great meals at great bargain prices for eg. jumbo sausage chips and choice of gravy, curry sauce or peas for the grand total of 2.20. They also do a big lunchbox for 3.00 (i think) that consists of mini fish, chips and a sauase with choice of sauces/pea etc. They also do breakfasts and toasted sandwiches which have only recently been introcuced but seem to have gone down really well. They have also this week introduced rotesserie chicken, which i have not tried as yet - but have heard are great. There home made fishcakes also are amazing, they are so nice and worth that extra 20p. The queues can be out of the door on certain nights, but the staff are very efficent and they get to you quite quickly. The staff are great and the majority have worked there for years and year.the owner is a star, he is so proud of his store and his food and it shows, i think that is a great attitude to have and i think his customers come back to him again and again due to this and also the superb quality of the food. Everyone in rugby has been here i think, or atleast heard of this chip shop.try it out you will not be disapointed.i spoke to someone in their last week whom actually travels 25 miles to get his chips from this chip shop.also david barmby from bargain hunt goes in there for his fish and chipshehe!!!!

I had a truly awful day and journey home, and went to put my dinner in the oven and the entire thing blew - leaving me with no access to food or car (last straw of the day). I called Chris', explained the situation and asked if they would deliver, which they advertise on their website. The girl initially said yes but then had to ask the delivery driver who said loud enough for me to hear "haha nah that ain't worth the petrol", even though I was happy to pay extra. Thought they were a nice bunch but feel really disappointed - I know they have to cover costs but we've spent a fortune with them and I really could've done with a hand...just can't find friendly businesses anymore.

Just a little background: The Griff House Beefeater & Premier Inn was the home of the great author,…read moreGeorge Elliot (Mary Ann Evans), where she lived for 22 years. It was refurbished in February 2004 as a hotel and restaurant. Some of the old parts of the house remain that is possible to be seen. We stayed in the hotel part for the full "George Elliot experience." As the Griff House is pretty much in the middle of nowhere in England, the only option for food is the Beefeater restaurant that has also been built into the historic house. I had pretty high expectations for the steak at a restaurant that has been named "Beefeater." Unfortunately, the steak at dinner was not so good and the price was way to high. Later when I was speaking with my British friend about it, she reminded me that this is England. The service was nice though in typical polite English fashion. Breakfast in the morning was good and the kind woman even made eggs American style: scrambled with cheese and tomato. (Not that I don't like English breakfast, I was just really in the mood for scrambled eggs!) Overall, it was fun staying and eating in the home of George Elliot, but probably not the place for food!
