Very rude owner and extremely basic and poorly laid out facility with machines that just don't feel…read moresmooth when using them. Missing basic equipment that every gym I've ever been to has. They staff the gym at hours that are tough for people with 9-6 jobs. I had a 2 month membership while I was in town and I wasn't able to make it in to return my card before my membership expired. I sent the following message to the owner and received the following response: "Good afternoon, I leave the state tomorrow and need to return my access card to receive a refund. I called the phone number and wasn't given any options besides needing to come in when the staff is working. The staff hours are not ideal for anyone with a 9-6 job and the only time I can make it in will be this evening. I do not have access to the door since my membership expired yesterday. What solutions do I have since I will no longer be in Oregon as of this evening? It would be ideal to have a drop box or a way to let someone in for the sake of returning the card. Please help me with facilitating this. Thank you" Response from owner: "Please note that, should you return to Hood River in the future, we ask that you take your business elsewhere as our club is not the right fit for your needs." How rude and unprofessional. The owner could have responded with a solution other than visiting during staffed hours such as mailing the card or another option but I was met with that response. Since I was leaving the state, I stopped by the gym my last evening and had someone let me in to drop the card off since I was given no other options and didn't want to be charged for the access card.

I had a very disappointing experience at this gym. I brought my sister with me because she was…read moreinterested in joining and wanted to get a day pass. Before I even had a chance to put on my indoor shoes (a policy I found unusual), we were told my sister couldn't work out or even sit on the benches while I worked out. We were only there for about 4-5 minutes and never even got past the front desk (we arrived at 4:03PM and staffed time had ended at 4PM, though I thought we were still within staffed hours). I was later charged a $20 fee because my sister entered with me. While I understand the gym has rules, this felt unnecessary and unfair from my perspective. Because of the way the situation was handled, and the fee applied, I decided to cancel my membership. In my opinion, I would not recommend this gym, as my experience left me feeling unwelcome and disappointed.

Typically covered pool, during the summer months they open a few panels to let the sunshine and warm air shine through. Oh, and the wind, too! It is Hood River so fierce winds are to be expected. You can do a Day pass for $5 or buy punch card of 10 swims for a discount, more of a discount if you live in Hood River and are a senior. Even though I'm from Portland, I purchased o e because I know it will get used. I'm in Hood River frequently - my Happy Place- even happier when I get in a swim. There are 4 lap lanes and 2 per lane, splitting rather than circle swimming, always a plus. There is a timer clock on each end making it super easy to know when you've accomplished your time or to see how quickly you are swimming. Lap lanes are usually available all day but always check their website for the most accurate info. A large play area is available for kids and families as well as an individual shallow pool. A few lounge chairs and lots of metal bleachers on the perimeter. You can also walk a few feet to an outdoor patio if you need more sun. I did! Needed to speed up my drying time after my shower. Locker rooms are typical, a few private showers and an open shower pit area. Staff is friendly. They were super helpful and informative when I called to inquire about usage and the same friendliness greeted me when I arrived. Happy to have discovered this pool and will be back! I have a punch card to use up!!!

I signed up for the trial week here and my first few classes were with Victoria who is truly…read moreamazing. The positive energy from the group that filled the room and her insightful instruction is exactly why I like to include studio yoga into my practice. I thought I had found my new "yoga home." And then I came to Angela's class, which is why I urge you to stay away. Angela is the worst yogi, and quite possibly even a horrible person...and she owns this place. First, she didn't like my mat, or where I placed my mat, or which side of the mat I was using and proceeded to try to sell me a mat. Uhhh... Then, as I came into my first down dog she snaps at me to stop moving, so I froze. Then she proceeded to come and touch me on every pose! She didn't know me! She didn't ask me! She didn't know my body! To her credit, she may have assumed that I wanted to get really deep into each pose because it is obvious that I have practiced before, but after hiking that day I was a little sore/tired, and wanted to take it easy. I listen to my body and don't force poses. The penultimate straw was when, on my third down dog, she came and drove my heels into the mat! Drove.my.heels.into.the.mat. I flipped over and asked her to stop, and that her touch felt critical...she said "fine" and marched around the room loudly saying how she is showing us how to do things correctly and how important it is for her to touch, blah, blah. It felt so hostile! So hostile, in fact, that I rolled up my mat and left...after only 8 minutes. If you look at the website, she violated all of her own tenets. I'd like to say my story is unique, but I felt compelled to write this review after swapping Angela horror stories at the Thirsty Woman with some folks I had just met. So join Root Down at your own risk, and/or only take classes from Victoria and Jen. Namaste.
