The Dear Darla is a thin crust pizza pie that comes with a box of arugula leaves and alfalfa sprouts. To eat it, you are supposed to layer some of the sprouts and leaves on top of the pizza and then roll it like a burrito. The crisp and clean flavor of the greens provides a refreshing contrast to the greasiness of the meat and cheese. For dessert, a quarter pint of pistachio ice cream is the bomb. I unashamedly admit that I've tasted several brands that taste better than Yellow Cab's ice cream but I can't resist collecting the cute cans that they come in.

While I'm not a fan of spicy noodles, Yellow Cab's Charlie Chan forces me to convert to the spicy side as I've been known to finish a whole order myself - along with a liter of water. Yellow Cab is surely one of the few local brands that has impressed me due to their marketing strategy. Being a local brand comes as a surprise to many people as the brand seems to exude international appeal. But no, that's definitely the catch. Yellow Cab is 100% proudly Pinoy made.

Nowadays, they are a mere shadow of their former self. Only a handful branches remain, each one struggling for relevance in a new age. The branch in Tomas Morato used to be really big with two floors. Now, they just occupy the top one. Since their heyday, I've never heard anyone suggest eating there aside from myself. I couldn't care less about their pasta and pizza, though. Oddly enough what I love about them is just an appetizer - the onion rings. Their version of onion rings, together with its tangy sauce, is one of the best. It's just sad how much I want the onion rings but no one wants to accompany me. I guess I'll be dining alone then.

We also got the prosciutto and homemade sausage pie, which was loaded with quality toppings and had that smoky brick-oven flavor that makes you close your eyes for a second. Paired it with a pitcher of calamansi juice--super refreshing and the ideal balance to the richness. The spot's small and cozy, tucked away but worth finding, and the staff was genuinely warm and quick. Already plotting my next visit to try more combos. Easily 5 stars--best brick oven in the area hands down!

We've all had those irresistible late night or early morning pizza cravings. We've all also had…read morethose times too when the budget is pretty tight times (a frequent occurrence for people like me). Alberto's Pizza comes to the rescue in times like these. One might find many of these joints in the Visayas region like in Cebu or Iloilo, but there aren't as many in Metro Manila. Ironically, the one I'm a regular at is along Visayas Avenue. Being a 24/7 delivery pizza shop is definitely not a unique idea as a couple of bigger and more popular local pizza joints do deliver to very corner of Metro Manila 'round the clock. As I've alluded to though, the added value of Alberto's, is well, its value. You get an 11" pizza for less than 300 pesos, and even less than 200 pesos for some flavors. In my case where I'm within the delivery radius, it's free delivery and there is no minimum order requirement. My personally favorite is the "Meaty Royale." As the name suggests, it has all sorts of sausages as toppings, as well as pepperoni and ham. The toppings are pretty generous considering the price. As for the quality of the dough and ingredients, one can't obviously expect gourmet or brick oven-level standards, but once again factoring in how much (or less) you pay, it's more than does the job of taking care of hunger and satisfying a pizza craving. If the pizza isn't enough to take care of that hunger, then you can also choose from Alberto's rice meal selection (also all for a decent price).
