I stopped into The Davenport for a cocktail before a long night out on the San Marcos square, and I…read morewish I had stayed there longer. The Davenport has such a relaxed atmosphere, from the Sade playing inside to the energy of the bartenders, that it feels comfortable as a cocktail bar. We all ordered one drink each, with some ordering the Jonestown Kool-Aid or a Barbie's Bathwater. I ordered a classic Aviation, which I believe is one of the best cocktails around, and it was great. It was a little sharper than ones I've had before, but I was asked if it was good or if he needed to make it sweeter. I enjoyed it for what it is, and I thought the price was pretty fair. I think The Davenport is a great starter or closer on a night out, or simply a great place to stay for a while. The patio is nice and comfortable, especially once the sun goes down, and the vibes are well worth it. RIYL: Creative cocktails that don't break the bank

While we were there, I asked if they would be open on Monday for the USA & Belgium game for drinks and more of those awesome hamburgers and fries. They said yes and bring your friends. So I put together a party of 12 for drinks and raved about the hamburgers and fries which everyone wanted. As our party started to arrive, we went out to place our order for food and the gentleman running the grill said he wasn't going to serve us "the general public"! was only interested in a party that was going to come out. So our party of 12 adults and two young kids didn't stay. Just a word of advice for that young man, don't invite us and say bring your friends. Especially when you say you'll be open and cook, then refuse to serve us as our party is arriving. Your parties are few right now, and you are running off the local traffic that frequently come every week and patronage that establishment. For the amazing bar tenders great job as usual!!!! Thank you for taking care of us!

The sautéed veggies were also an amazing side and has complimented the combo tremendously. I didn't need to use steak sauce at all to cherish the red meat. A small slice at a time plus a little veggie forkful was all it took to have this 5-star taste experience. Add tasty grilled shrimp to palate next. The ambience was great although I think I am starting to get too old for the volume of music at amazing joints like this. I should know better coz it's a sports bar. But I'm fine nonetheless. I heard that their signature Margherita pizza is the star of the show. I should have that next year when I come back to Gonzales. Kayleigh, my server, was top notch. Incredible experience being in downtown Gonzales TX for the first time. A rain storm took me here by destiny. God is good coz I was able to find a church downtown for 4pm worship, then after that while waiting for the rain storm to diminish, gave me the best excuse to have early dinner at this amazing historic restaurant -- I believe a well-deserved stopover after a tiring but fruitful time teaching Redemption at my 8th Royal Rangers PowWow in Halletsville. It's a card game I've been playing and teaching for more than 20 years and counting. See you in a bit Gonzales. See u in a bit Come and Take It.
