Gonna give the red caboose a five star regardless of my experience…read more Ok. So I actually popped in a little while back just to get the lay of the land. Blah, blah blah I could reiterate what everyone else has said. Good and bad. But it's necessary that we preserve as many places that still cater to specialty interests and hobbies. It's more museum with the option to sell moreover than a hobby shop at this point. The two times I've been in there the individual running the shop was speaking with customers and was very knowledgeable. Yet a bit brusque. Be respectful. And understanding. However... I, on my latest visit was prepared to make a purchase. You see I was home because work was slow. I was perusing Amazon etc looking for a project to keep me occupied while I have some downtime. By the way it's January and just got really, really cold. I want to support as many brick and mortar businesses as possible. So I button up and make the trip downtown. So I get there and peruse the inventory. After a while I find something that will keep me busy for a few weeks. Here's the rub. I get to the counter and the owner( I assume) starts looking up the price. It's got a price on the side of the box but he claims it's the wrong price. I stand there patiently whilst he looks it up on his iPad. And wait. Now he's tagging on 20 bucks to the existing price on the box. The prices on most of these items are pretty high I noticed. All good. But don't try to squeeze me at the register and tell me someone put the wrong price on the box. If you'd have honored the price right or wrong I'd be sitting here working on the model. Instead I'm writing this review.

If you really need something or are in the area, the staff seem knowledgeable and helpful although the store selection leaves a lot to be desired. A lot of stock looks old and dusty and needs attention before use. There are some new boxed sets and items but pricing is high here.

Super cute and unique store full of miniatures!…read more I am a huge fan of miniatures (as a maker of mini books myself), and I collect miniatures from my travels as souvenirs. This store features dollhouses filled with detailed decor and furniture, all for purchase. There are also shelves upon shelves of almost everything you can think of in miniature form, from presents to charcuterie. I couldn't resist getting a mini charcuterie platter; the meats looked so realistic. Prices for the mini charcuterie ranged from $30-$45. Definitely a highlight of my trip and I'll be sure to come back again!

I'm not a dollhouse person by any stretch, but Tiny Doll House on the UES turned out to be a…read moresurprisingly delightful stop. The shop is exactly what its name promises--an entire world of miniature rooms, furniture, and tiny accessories--but what makes it worth visiting is the sheer charm and craftsmanship packed into such a small space. Even as someone who doesn't collect dollhouses, I found myself appreciating the detail and creativity on display. The shop is filled with incredibly detailed miniatures and tiny, beautifully crafted pieces that are fun to look at even if you're not a collector. If you're already into miniatures, this place is probably a dream come true. No one really interacted with me while I was there. So the visit was more like browsing quietly on my own. It wasn't unfriendly, just hands-off. Still, if you're in the area, it's a quirky little spot that's worth a quick visit--especially if you enjoy unique shops or want to see some impressive miniature craftsmanship.

However know they will watch you like hawks and have no shame starring at you while you walk around and will constantly remind you to bag and price things you put on your trays. It's unnerving and unwelcoming the way they hover over you. I come here often on my lunch breaks because it's very close to my job and they still watch over me crazy as if they don't see me here almost every week. They price some beads individually which can get really expensive, you can def find better deals elsewhere in the fashion district, since it's so close.

Kazumi has been my favorite manager for years--our encounters are always joyful--and today I also met Tamaki, who had a wonderful, welcoming presence. Normally my visits are a 9-10/10, but this time fell short due to Kaoru's behavior. After I politely declined a tray in the crystal section, she sucked her teeth and muttered something under her breath. Later at checkout, Kaoru -- a woman with a bob haircut) -- ignored my question until I repeated it, tossed my receipt at me, didn't bag my items, and walked away when I asked her name, telling me "it wasn't necessary". I also couldn't help but notice I was the only one who looked like me in the store at the time, which made the interaction feel targeted. This was especially disappointing because every other transaction I've had here has been handled with care. As a loyal, long-time customer, I hope Kaoru's attitude improves, because the warmth and professionalism I've consistently received from Kazumi and Tamaki are what make Toho Shoji such a special place.

I signed my daughter up for their summer camp about two weeks before it was to take place, and when I was on the phone with them signing her up, I asked how many other children had already signed up. They said there were three already signed up, but they were sure that more would sign up closer to the date. The night before the camp was to start, I received a phone call saying that they needed to cancel the camp because my daughter was the only child who had signed up. I asked how this could be when I had specifically asked and been told that there were already three kids signed up. They mumbled something about it not being their policy to lie and said that they would refund my money. In addition, they had never said that there was the possibility that the camp would be cancelled -- that would have been a red flag for me and I wouldn't have risked signing her up and then having no activity for her for that week. Very unprofessional -- I wouldn't go near this place again!
