Place was neat and clean. Most of the staff was friendly. Had to wait 36 minutes after ordering just to get some pulled pork! I ordered half pound of pulled pork and slaw with a water. 36 minutes later I get the pork but no water or slaw. They said I didn't order it and asked if I had my receipt. I had already thrown it away and I wasn't going to dig through the trash can for it. They didn't seem too concerned at all and only offered to sell me the slaw and water - at that point I just wanted to eat and get back to work before I was late. I'm addition, their sauce was not very good at all and disappointing. Some friends had ordered french fries with barbecue sauce - the fries were soggy and swimming in the not so good sauce. Been coming here for about a year and each time I get a different meat. Sad to say that I'm disappointed and whoever is responsible for grilling and frying doesn't know what they're doing. The ribs are constantly undercooked and tough. The fried chicken isn't very crispy and is also undercooked. The only meat that I'd recommend is the smothered pork chops. Pretty difficult to mess those up. As far as sides go, they seem to be carrying the experience. Mac n cheese, collards, and the stuffing are all excellent. I strongly advise against the Sunday dinner meals. They can't get this right. The supposed to be baked chicken was barely grilled with no seasoning. Potato salad had tons of sugar in it. That sugar actually should have been used in the not candied yams. Overkill on the ginger. Can I just be honest somebody was producing with NO passion for the food. I am so glad the dressing was ok. I knew better ultimately, ordered jerk tips just in case my expectations were not met. The packaging was also below standard as well. Paid extra 2.75 for pound cake. I was not even aware that the dinner would include a dessert. I called in. The young lady was definitely not accommodating. If I return, it will be strictly for ribs only. It's an older lady working who is so very abrupt, rude, loud and all the above. After reading some of the views, I totally agree with many of them. 1. There is no consistency with the tips. I have found when I go on Friday thru Sunday, that's when rib tips taste the best. It seems that the meat varies along with being too fatty. 2. Yes the dark skinned lady with the glasses has a negative disposition. She definitely needs some customer service training. I spoke to someone concerning her before. I guess that did no good. 3. They do NOTHING to show that they appreciate their customers. So far...... we are at the location next to the church. When you walk in to order the special you have to fill out a piece of paper then hand to the cashier. This is our first time here so when we went to the register to order, we were told to get back out of line, and fill out the form. A little disappointed, but we still ordered. And I'm so glad we did. I had a chance to taste, the rib tips. Oh my they were so soft and juicy. The first bite and I was impressed. I also has the macaroni and cheese, it was not dry but the noodles were cooked to perfection and the mix of cheeses were so yummy. I love a cheesy flavored mac n cheese. Sometimes folks go wrong with adding cheeses that don't mix well. But this right here. Let me tell you.......delicious. The collard greens, well they were ok. I give them an ok because there were a lot of stems. I know the secret to good collards is the flavor in the stems, however I chop mine up so little you wouldn't know they were there. Now the yams were good too. It's all about texture for me folks. They were soft yet held their shape and tasted so wonderful. I sampled the red beans and rice. When I say sample, it was so good I got hate looks from my beau when I asked to taste. He don't play about his food. And he was loving them red beans and rice. Hmph I have yet to make my own which he likes, so I was jealous. Lol, yes I was over some beans and rice. He was taking his time savoring every bite, chew and swallow. I must say they were so good. I was trying to entice him with my sweet looks and he was not having it. Lol, that's why I only got a sample. Last but not least the pound cake. I mean baby it tasted like a pound of goodness. I got a 4 piece chicken dinner, a regular order of beef tips, mac and cheese and coleslaw. The chicken and the fries were good, but the tips. Oh, my god. They put pineapple in the sauce. Not pineapple juice. I mean chunks of pineapple with BBQ sauce drizzled over it and some tips. I am glad the guy at the counter set me straight and told me to get more. The mac and cheese? I don't want to over sell this here, is simply the best I've EVER had. Gary Indiana's reputation proceeds them. I wanted to see the city as I am staying next door on a business trip. Let me start by saying I was sooo excited to go here. Last Tuesday, I had the peach cobbler, jerk chicken tacos and Mac and cheese . All items were delicious!!!!! So, I returned today for more!! First, I got the jerk tacos and peach cobbler. Then, decided to try a couple more items. I tried gumbo, rip tip sampler and fried green tomatoes. I later found this to be a bad idea The gumbo, is a chicken gumbo. Cashier stated that it had shrimp, it does not. Then, it was EXTREMELY salty and over seasoned. Tasted like they dropped a container of salt and other seasonings in the pot by accident. But decided to sell it anyway. Fried green tomatoes tasted more like corn meal muffins. Tomatoes were sliced so thin and the bread batter was extremely thick. So thick, u couldn't even taste the tomatoes. And, I wasn't impressed with the quality of the tips. Definitely had better. All in all, great success with jerk tacos, mac and peach cobbler. But, everything else was pretty disappointing. I wish I had took pics. Nice presentation for everything. read more

I think we found the best BBQ restaurant in North West Indiana. The place was full during lunch. I ordered the medium rib tip and hot link combo. This was a perfect size portion. So recently went here for dinner with some co workers and let me tell you, the service was poor at best. Once I ordered they told me its gonna be a 20 min wait. So we waited no problem there but after 30 mins we finally get our food. We had rib tips and some sides. I will say the collard greens were legendary, and the mac and cheese was sub par. But the tips were incredibly disappointing. The amount of meat on the bones was terrible. The experience I had at this place was so disappointing at best. I always try to support local black businesses when I travel for work but I can honestly say I will not be returning to this place.
