I know it's a small zoo so I wasn't expecting too much but most of the animals were sleeping when my friends and I walked through. I was also disappointed that some areas of the zoo were closed due to construction and the nacturnal room was closed. Other then that the zoo was very clean with lots of walking room. There are bathrooms right at the entrance along with the gift shop. They also had a little play ground for the kids which is a nice addition.

A little late here my friends, but I couldn't not post this review. We visited on a cold, rainy New Year's Eve and despite the cold, it was fantastic. We basically had the zoo to ourselves. Their holiday lights made the visit extra magical. Many of the animals were within their warm shelters, but the ones we did see were beautiful. The best part of visiting this zoo was knowing our contribution went towards rescuing and rehabilitating animals.

What a fun place to see lights during their Wild Lights event! We came here on a Friday evening and there weren't that many people. We bought tickets ahead of time and walked right in. Most of the animals are not visible during the evening, but we did get to see some! Plus, our main focus was enjoying the lights, which they did a great job with. Plenty of photo ops as we strolled around the zoo, and there was a guy singing live music as well. I can imagine it getting pretty popular closer to the holidays! Moonridge Coffee was also there in a little popup shop, and we enjoyed a couple of cups of hot chocolate as the kids played on the playground for a bit. Very relaxing. There's also a gift shop that has some cool swag. Plenty of parking in the lot, with a very relaxing atmosphere.

a must do in big bear! I was not expecting so many animals and was pleasantly surprised by how many there was and for a great price too. I had such a fun time seeing all the animals and zoo koopers in certain areas talking about the animals was nice to learn about.

We came to the zoo for family day yesterday. It was the perfect weather and a fun little outing. There's a playground in the middle which was fun for the kids. They had a good time looking at all the animals too. This was fun and I can see us going back.

    I swear I didn't do it!

I was hoping to enjoy this zoo, but unfortunately, it was kind of a waste of our time and money. The only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because the staff were very friendly. It simply wasn't worth the price of admission, and I wouldn't return. Having visited zoos in major cities, this one doesn't compare. I understand it focuses on local wildlife, but it wasn't very interesting to our family. The scenery was very beautiful, offering a stunning view of the mountains in the distance.

Love this zoo. It's well put together, with interesting exhibits, easy parking, friendly staff. It's really beautiful and unique and I would recommend a visit when your up visiting.

One of the smaller zoos that I've visited. Not a bad attraction when visiting the area but I wouldn't actively seek this option. Unfortunately I visited when there was a power outage so all buildings except for the starting restrooms were available. There wasn't power to purchase tickets in person. Online tickets were $17 for adults, not including tax. There was a daily show available although it wasn't actively listed or advertised. When we visited, there was a staff member feeding skunks. We went through the entire zoo within 30 minutes. The birds were the most active and they were feasting on breakfast in the morning. The other mammals were mostly napping and chilling in the shade. There was a playground for children at the farthest end. There wasn't any food or drink options so I would come prepared with snacks and water for families. Very small compared to other zoos that I've been and it was underwhelming for the price.

Had the best time at the Alpine zoo. It is the perfect size, has a playground for the kids, and great programs about the animals. We enjoyed seeing the animals that are local to Big Bear, especially the bears. Definitely recommend stopping here during your visit to the city.

The Big Bear Alpine Zoo is so much more than a traditional zoo. It's a rehabilitation and rescue with a dedicated staff that cares deeply about the animals they help. I started coming to the Alpine Zoo several years ago and did not realize this is also a facility that rescues and rehabilitates animals when they can. I'm not sure of another place where you get to see such majestic animals (bears, eagles, leopards, and wolves) up close and personal, just inches away. Jessica, Christy, and the team are doing truly great work, and their dedication and love for the animals shows. Highly recommend visiting and supporting this great place. You won't be disappointed.

Big Bear Alpine Zoo is a gem in Big Bear and a great attraction to check out with family and friends. This spot is a rehabilitation zoo where they rescue injured and/or orphaned animals to care for them until they can be released back into their native habitats. To get here, there is a big parking lot right next to the zoo with free parking. For admission, it is $16 per adult. The zoo is smaller to medium sized with a gift shop as well. They have a plethora of animals to see ranging from different bears, mountain lions, snow leopards, foxes, wolves, coyotes, deers, birds, and more! Keep in mind that each exhibit will only have about 1-2 animals at a time and that they may often by hiding or resting. All in all, it was definitely a great experience to stop by, see some wildlife, and learn more about them!

This is a nice small zoo to bring the family. Our kids enjoyed seeing the animals. There was a lot of parking and it wasn't crowded with a ton of people. The staff was nice and informative as well. I highly recommend coming here especially if you have kids!

Wow. What an amazing place. We stopped by a few days ago while staying in big bear and had the best time ever. It's great when you go to a zoo that cares so much about their animals and you can truly see it. We came on a nice winter day and saw all of the animals! We even got a lovely howling show from the wolves when the ambulances drove by.. so cool! The workers were all lovely and so knowledgeable, I didn't catch the name of the man working Monday but he was so nice! We fell in love with this beautiful animal sanctuary and I highly recommend paying a visit if you're in big bear:)

Kids play area! And a snack shack located next to it!

Is the zoo open today , Sunday January 15?

There open from 10am to 4pm.

Is the new zoo handicap accessible/friendly?

Hi, love the new location , but did have a question that came up on our group. Some amimals seemed extremely sleepy?

I am not sure why the animals were sleepy. They do enjoy an afternoon nap which we take as a great sign that they are comfortable in their new home. Our weather has been unseasonably warm so they may be relaxing and enjoying the sunshine.

Will you be open tomorrow?? I've tried calling and emailing but have not been able to reach anyone.

Yes. We are open everyday 10-4. Masks are required.

Will you guys be open on Valentine's Day, and should we by tickets before?

You buy tickets at the gate

    Will you be open February 16 - 18 2021?

    Yes

    Are you guys open today?

No. We are closed until Covid restrictions are lifted.

Are you still open or will be open this coming weekend?

We are currently closed due to Covid restrictions. Up to date information is on our Facebook page.

Is the new location now open?

    Yes. Everyday from 10-4

Will you be open Sunday November 29th, 2020?

    Yes. 10-4

Can tickets be purchased in advance or only once at the zoo?

Tickets are purchased at the zoo. Have fun.

Will you be open this saturday?

    Yes. Everyday 10-4

Is the zoo still open right now?

We went in August, so it's probably open now. Have to wear a mask the whole time you're there and you can't get into the dark room to see the owls. Other than that, everything was normal.

Will they be open for Labor Day?

Yes. The zoo is open 10-4 daily through September 20th. We will then be closing the old zoo and moving the animals to their new home.

How much of the zoo/enclosures are outdoors?

    All of them.

Hello, my family will be coming up Thursday August 6 th through Saturday the 8th and would like to visit the zoo. Are you open?

Yes. Everyday from 10-4. Mask are required.

Hi there, do you have a reopening date yet? We'd like to go this weekend.

The zoo is open daily 10am to 4pm. Masks are required. Welcome back!

Will you be opening next week ? We will be in town the 15th?

Most likely. We are waiting for approval from the County. You can call after Friday just to make sure. 909-584-1299.

Will you be open tomorrow 6/5/2020?

No. We are still closed due to COVID 19.

Are you guys open at the moment?

Sorry. Not at this time. Keep checking back as things change often.

Also: 1. For those complaining about not being able to use their phone on a rental trail ride, it's common sense, if you accidentally drop your phone, it holds up the trail line while the trail guide has to retrieve it for you ( not allowed to get on and off a rental horse)!, it may get broken (and who's fault is that?), stopping to click several photos slows down the timed ride for everyone, and when it falls it may spook the horse. 2. So you want to trot, lope or Gallup? Not on these mountain trails with a horse you aren't familiar , with totally inexperienced riders as well as seasoned riders, and children. Just because YOU think you are an experienced RIDER doesn't matter. These are not your horses. This is a business and safety for all comes first along with protecting the horse's safety. The living desert zoo flips this idea on its head by focusing on geographical areas that have similar climates and explicitly not accepting animals that won't do well in the desert. We took the guided tour, not so much to avoid walking (even though it was nice to have a shaded golf court in the unexpected 100 degree heat) but so we would have access to a docent guide who could tell us stories. Leila more than did that -- she was incredibly knowledgeable, very nice, and engaging. There are three main areas to explore: African Safari, Australian Adventures, Wild Americas. There's also more than 50 gardens and 1000 acres of hiking trails. My highlights for each area: Australian adventures The laughing kookaburra gets its name from its maniacal-sounding laughs and hoots. Bennett's wallaby is similar to a kangaroo with larger ears. The emu is the second largest bird in the world, can run long distances up to 30 miles an hour, and has built in "sunscreen." Wild Americas Badgers are fierce, able to fight off an attacker many times their own size. Bighorn sheep are specially evolved for the rocky mountain terrain they live in. Chuckwalla lizards defend their territories with head bobbing and pushups -- no idea why that works. African Safari Painted dogs have vibrant color coats with big ears and are excellent pack hunters. The banded mongoose has a striking striped coat and interact with others in what appears to be social games. And of course the highlight of the whole visit -- we got to feed the giraffes. Their tongues are VERY long which they wrap around the lettuce. They are black to guard against sunburn and spongy (if you accidentally touch it). This zoo has something for everyone and every age.

For this most recent long three-day weekend in Lake Arrowhead we decided to finally give this place a try. We are two adults in our 30s with no kids. It is important to note that because honestly, this place is for children 10 and under. It is not for teens or adults. It is honestly pretty underwhelming if you are an adult, but it can be quite charming if you are a child. It is also $55 per person and $15 for parking which is a bit expensive, but I understand the inflated price due to the location and having to staff it. One thing about this place that is nice is they don't have a bunch of add-ons once you get inside, so you really do just pay one price unless you decide to get food as well. The other part of this park is specifically designed for people into mountain biking. They have six different trails ranging in difficulty from easy to difficult and about half of the visitors seemed to be doing that which we would go back specifically for. The activities for adults are pretty limited, so the main ones that we did were the bike in the air that goes around the rim of the property. This is the ride that you see in all the marketing and is the most popular. It was probably the most fun we had but it was honestly a bit scary once you get to the steepest point. It's about 50 feet above the ground so it would be quite a fall down. After that, we tried some archery and ax throwing which was surprisingly fun. After that, there was honestly nothing else that we could really do given our age and size so we headed out after that. This would be a great place to visit during December with children 10 and under because they do have Santa Claus and people in costumes and what not and each of the buildings is alpine themed and is very quaint. They also have a very large area that serves as a wedding location so I'm sure that is also another part of this place. There is a large free parking lot attached in front with EV charging available as well.
