Went in here for the first time yesterday (having moved within walking distance the day…read morebefore), and except for The Barn -- a discount outlet -- they have some of the lowest grocery prices in the area by a good bit. You'd expect that the chains like Big Y and Stop & Slop would have economy of scale advantages, but apparently not. So far, we've found the quality perfectly good, the place large and clean, and plenty of deep discounts (pork roast for $1.99/lb? Ten pounds of local potatoes for $2.99/bag?) of useful staples. They use the 'Best Yet' in-house label that Fosters in Greenfield uses, as well as sharing a couple other local vendors -- for instance, they have the same discount local brand of spices that Fosters and The Barn uses, however much labeled 'Food City' instead. The only fly in the ointment, so far, is that the bakery selection is meagre, and often not very good. As against that, they've got a pizza operation that's just plain outstanding, the best pizza I've had yet in the county, and often the cheapest: just the other day was twice now that I've gone in for a large (16") pizza and found it sale priced at $10 even. I wish I knew about these prices the last three years, because I would've done my grocery shopping here instead of in Greenfield.

It's a nice place to get a gift on the way to visiting someone. They have dairy products and other perishables as well. There's some outdoor seating at the store and the abundance of flowers outside was a nice touch. I guess, hence, the Kitchen Garden... Service was friendly and helpful. I wished they had some limpa or Finnish rye, but I came pretty late in the day. Maybe I'll try the ice cream sometime, though it's from Bliss over in Attleboro, which is closer to Boston. DD got breakfast sausage. Also, what seemed to be a side of beef. It was very heavy carrying it to my vehicle. He, who wears a Rolex watch (and drives a Lincoln!) also thought the prices were steep. He rated them 3 star, which is to be expected. He has, in fact, earned his reputation as Demanding Dan. If I lived a bit closer, would be interested in trying a few other things. And fresh, not frozen. Update - next day. I had one each of the hot and sweet Italian sausage. Very, very good. Nicely spiced, seems like lower fat content than store-bought.
